I know which conversations I had with people and I don't need you to invent stories again so mind your own fiction there buddy lol

Mudryk in isolation on that left side I understand, but having only one player to link up with in attack is a farce.

I don`t really get it to be honest. Why is Enzo playing so far on the right when we already don`t have a proper LB that can go forward? Everything is so unbalanced. Shouldn`t Enzo try to shift the play more to the left by positioning himself betwen Mudryk and the holding midfielders? Of course Enzo shouldn`t be that far up the pitch anyway. Palmer should play his position and he should play alongside Caicedo.

He really shouldn't play at 10. He maybe got a worse shooting ability than Jorginho, stick him to 8 or 6.

Him along side Caicedo and Palmer/Gallagher in front.

Yeah I'd rather see Palmer or even Maatsen linking up with Jackson as they have the quick feet to work well in those areas.

Enzo+Caicedo as a pivot yet to really be tested.

I wonder why? Pochettino has his reasons for Colwill at LB, wonder what they are for using others alongside Moises.

Really don't know. Perhaps Enzo and Caicedo's positioning as a pair is in question.

I can't believe it won't ever work when I see Liverpool rocking very match week with MacAllister and Endo (who both stand at a respectable 5'9 and 5'10) as the deepest lying players in their midfield.

Noticed some good chemistry between him and Caicedo tonight. Just so much better when he is playing deeper and being that link between defence and attack.

Amen to that, as Conor looked better with more freedom.

It's all about space and direction. You can compress the space around a no 10, man-mark them with a DM or defender etc. Attacking midfielders also tend to receive the ball back to goal, and seek inter-play with their forwards rather than holding on to the ball.

Fernandez isn't a goal threat in the box, he doesn't run beyond the defenders, and our team's interplay is still a work in progress so teams know to restrict a player like him to the edge of the box and cramp the space.

Played deeper, with support, Fernandez is a different beast. You can't crowd him out because of the risk he passes over the top to our speedy forward line, and you can't just give him the ball forever as he loves to have time on the ball. It creates a catch-22 situation that just doesn't happen when he's played too far forward. With Caicedo/Ugochukwu/Lavia he also isn't the last line of defence and is free to move deep or forward as needed, making him much harder to mark.

Better players than Fernandez (Xavi, Pirlo, Lampard etc) were average as out-and-out attacking midfielders. However, when those same players moved deeper they became world-class. I think of their ability to play balls over the top, or finish from the edge of the box with a late, late run, or start a counter-attack by taking the ball from the DM or CBs. Enzo is definitely in that mould of player.

This post is great, happy to read it, thanks for taking the time to word out some truths here.

He's good at picking out passes and good generally on the ball, but man, he needs to work on his shooting. I never expect him to score when he has a chance.

Though to be fair, that could be said for everyone.

Yeah it has to be something mental, within the context of the team's current scoring deficit, if you see most of his shots in the Argentina national squad they are pretty good and on target.

Looking tired, needs a rest. Unfortunately Argentina play Paraguay and Peru within 5 days of each other, the Peru game 3 days before PL resumes.

Agree with that.

He's a good player and can be fantastic on his day (like v Liverpool) but he's inconsistent and his great performances have been few and far between if we are honest. I think Caicedo is the better player but I also think Enzo beside him (out of current options at least) helps to bring out the best in Caicedo so happy Pochettino have put them together.

I do assume most had hoped for more than 2 assists and 0 goals in 30 odd appearances so final product is something he needs to work on for someone with freedom offensively but at the same time I think he's proved that you don't necessarily have to rack up the GA's to be a good and useful player.

Not sure if fatigue plays a part given they have a week off every match week.

He’s fine. He’s just a young player who we already set to a high standard.

I think he is more than good .. he has himself missed a few chances and the less said about our forward line the better.. people compared him to fabregas but he ain’t that.. I would think he can be closer version of Pirlo..

he will get assists when our attack improves.. but I think he is exactly the player we need .. his ability to hit pinpoint 60 yard passes without thinking twice is something we have missed for a long long time..

I really believe he will be a bargain in a couple of years time.
