It's the same old story when it comes to scoring goals and if it does get better, its not going to be at the level required for a club this size. Certain players are holding this team back and need to be moved on. We dominated Liverpool yesterday, recently we've dominated all our games, if Villa only need 4 shots at goal to score twice how many goals would they get with 27 shots at goal? Fact is our approach play is good, dominating the game is the hardest part of football, of course we can all see how woeful we are at converting chances (probably the worst I've EVER seen at any club) and we know how there is a f*ck up or two every game at the back but in all honesty we are not that far from being an elite team again. Put it this way of the two teams yesterday I thought we looked 'closer' to being the real deal than Liverpool did.

Bloke really shoots blanks in the final third, be it chance creation or finding the actual net. So timid. J-Wow is a football tourist working on his game and has no concern for the outcome.

He missed one shot which admittedly was horrible but he made some great runs, was through on goal and unfortunately scored with hand. He made Alisson work a couple of times, Felix for example 0 times. His finishing should be better but Alisson was excellent you can't deny that. That is why managers pick him. If BS started Mudryk for example we wouldn't have had the chances he had in the game. The hate he gets here for not finishing is clouding everything else he is doing well. It wasn't unfortunate that he scored with his hand, it was because his initial shot was your typical Havertz shot where he puts no power into it and tries to be flashy. If we are 1 or 2 up, fine, try a little dink over the keeper, but when we are 0-0, can barely manage a point or goal all season, just place it either side of the keeper. If Havertz was in a team fighting relegation, he would get them sent down. Actually, he probably wouldn't get the chance because no manager that low down would put up with him. You say he gets hate just for the finishing, but you ignored all of the other points I bought up yesterday. Like his handball when played through to run at the Liverpool defense. How many times does he get caught for handball? It's a common trait with him. Then there was the control off his knee and out for a goalkick when Felix had a shot blocked. Just another example of Havertz being awful when it comes to his awareness. Then there was the wasted chance when Allison gave it away and he just pushed it back into the Liverpool box, wasting another great opportunity. He also didn't make great runs, especially in the second half when he kept drifting out wide instead of getting into the box so James had somebody to target with a cross. His passing at times was awful too, why can't he just kick the ball with a bit of power? The last thing you want when you are running at defenders is for one of your teammates to hold on to it and play a soft pass that takes an extra second or two to reach you. It breaks up all momentum and he does it more often than not. So many times I see our wide players stop running because Havertz has failed to play a pass through to them. I'm sure the likes of James and Chilwell would love to run on to a pass from Havertz but by the time one of his passes reaches them, they are ahead of the ball.

It's a case of who plays alongside him on a regular basis, as much as I like Kovacic at times we really need someone in the middle who can score goals and sadly Kovacic isn't it, apart from the odd worldly now and then he's pretty much useless when attempting anything resembling a shot on goal. I'd like to see Carney given a couple of games in a row, like Lewis Hall had, to see if Carney can play in this team. Yet Kovacic is probably in our best 11 right now.

I expect good managers to improve strengths and get rid of bad habits in players. Havertz has some habits that need correcting and his shooting isn't that great but I also think he has been over played recently and is better than you make him out to be.

Havertz has all of the talent in the world to be as good as he wants to be, I've always said this. Very similar to Pogba. Very talented, but doesn't want it enough.

The blame for our goal scoring problems lies with the players paid big bucks to score goals. Lukaku scored at a goal every 182 minutes, way better than anybody we have now but a lot of the fickle fans on here thought he was useless.

Did this on another thread ... our forwards are 52% down on goal output vs last season, our midfield is 55% down, and our defenders are 69% down. It's across the whole team that we are struggling for goals. We've gone down from 1.94 goal average per game to 1.00.
