They chopped Bayern and Inter into pieces, especially Bayern are no mugs. PSG were the big favourites going into the CWC final, and many here sung their praises and envied them their manager. They are a really good team. And we outplayed them, we were better 😀

I am not saying they aren’t a good team.. I am saying they have it easy.. all the noise about them winning 5 trophies etc.. Apart from UCL they win the others by default.

ESPN FC are a collective group of old men shouting at the sky. They are unbearable and treat Chelsea as a damned if you do, damned if you don't club. I used to have a lot of respect for Burley but he's become insufferable.

Managers and pundits can treat this competition as a plastic competition, but club owners and players certainly won't. Liverpool and Arsenal wanted to be in this competition but UEFA restricted them.

FIFA have officially changed the title of prior competitions to the Intercontinental Trophy. So as of now, we are officially the only Club World Champions on the planet.

Chelsea is the first team to complete football. I'm glad it happened in my lifetime 🤲 Truly blessed

New competition formed.

Completed football again.

What's that? You invented a European competition for mid table teams? Ok then, we'll become mid table for a couple of years to go and win it.

You want to expand the Club World Cup that we've won and change its format? Ok, we'll use our CL win from 4 years ago to go and win the new format, just for safe measure.

You gotta love it!

From BBC :

How will European clubs qualify for the 2029 Club World Cup?

Twelve European clubs will play in the next edition of the Club World Cup.

The winners of the Champions League in the 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28 seasons will join Paris St-Germain in qualifying.

They will be joined by the next eight best-ranked teams competing in the Champions League over the next four years. Those are likely to be clubs who reach the latter stages of the competition without winning it.

If a team wins the Champions League twice, then the next highest club in the rankings will qualify, and so on.

Each European nation is restricted to two participating clubs only. That means that if, for example, two English teams qualify by winning the Champions League, no more can be added, regardless of their position in the rankings.

There would be an exception if three different winners of the Champions League came from the same country.

The winners of the 2028-29 do not qualify for the 2029 edition, unless they have already done so by winning the tournament previously or through the ranking system. The 2029 winners would qualify for the 2033 tournament.

So we've basically got to win the Champions League in one of the next three seasons to be able to defend our trophy (we are some distance behind Man City and Liverpool in the UEFA club rankings)

The gazillions in prize money are presumably also plastic? Just wait until - heaven forbid - Liverpool or Arsenal get in, probably it's magically not plastic anymore...

Although I feel that expanding the Club World Cup to a 140 clubs wasn't really necessary per se, if you're in it, you might as well try and win it.

Someone asked the question the other day as to who funded our costs in terms of travel etc.

It appear that FIFA funded up to $50k a day. Our costs were actually averaged out at €100k a day. So on the basis of a 30 day tournament it cost the club €1.5 million although it’s not been stated if we had any sponsorship to pay for that.

There was also a report in the DM today talking about how the players were able to have family with them and how numerous rest days and team building events took place.

Also there was mention that the club bought in special FA trained staff to organise the “ camp” and events including faliles as the club itself didn’t have relevant experience.

Me. Thanks for the update.

from Óle (argentina):

Real Madrid wants the Club World Cup to be played every two years.
Following the commercial success of the 2025 edition, the Spanish club has asked FIFA to hold the tournament on a biennial basis. From the club’s headquarters, they see a major opportunity to boost revenue, expand the brand, and maintain global interest in a competition that shows great promise.

Los Blancos were one of the standout participants in the first expanded format World Cup, not only on the pitch, but also commercially. According to official data, the Spanish club accounted for 25% of total ticket sales and recorded the tournament’s highest average attendance, numbers that were celebrated in Valdebebas like a last minute goal in the final.

Not surprising. I'm sure Perez is still spitting feathers that his Super League idea got binned ... this is basically coming at it from a different angle. If two years got approved, it would be "we should do this every year" next ...
