I also would prefer Petrovic to Sanchez - but I don't think Petrovic is the long term answer....and let's be honest - if the likes of Strasbourg, Sunderland and Bournemouth are looking at him - to me, this kind of shows his level. Signing a 5 yr contract at Sunderland, a team very likely to be relegated straight back to the championship is a silly move by the player. The short version - during his short spell as first choice for us, he didn't look brilliant (steady at best). He did well in the French league - but the fact that no genuinely decent team is sniffing tells a story. Did I read somewhere before that we offered him to Milan as part of a proposal for big Mike - and even they shot us down?Slight issue with this; Clubs generally don’t tend to pay big money for Goalkeepers unless you are Chelsea. To put it in perspective; Courtouis went to Madrid for £35m, Ederson was signed by City for £34m, and Raya went to Arsenal for £27m. Our £25m asking price is actually steep, and the only clubs paying big money and wages are in the PL. Unless you are certain he is better than your current goalkeeper, you won’t spend £25m on marginally better.
July 3, 20251 yr We all know Petrovic is not at Cech or Courtois level - perhaps not Cudicini either. But he is 100% better than Sanchez, so why are we looking to sell him and keeping the clown?I guess it is early days. Maybe we are getting rid of both and we will be signing a better keeper, but one thing is for certain. We cannot go into the new season with Sanchez as our No. 1 and if we do, we may as well write the season off now, regardless of what other signings we make in other areas. We need to find another keeper whose surname begins with C. July 3, 20251 yr If we sell Petrovic and start the season with Sanchez as first choice then its a completely moronic decision. If we sell Petrovic leading to bringing another keeper as first choice then its a good decision.Petrovic is a decent keeper, but realistically not that much better than Sanchez to make enough of a difference if he had ended up our first choice keeper.

Well most of it.The thing for me is if ,and we don’t know if it’s anything more than an if, Petrovic did indeed demand to be installed immediately as number one then sorry for me that sets alarm bells ringing. For the club not to take him irrespective of such comment there has to be a little more to it. Indeed whilst I never managed footballers I always found that dealing with staff who self opinion was way above their worth in the work place wasn’t that difficult to manage in itself it’s when that inflated ego became disruptive or too demanding that a few home truths had to be expressed and rarely did that lead to a long term partnership If as many believe Petrovic is a better keeper ,and I haven’t seen enough of his performing in France to draw any opinion, then he would have quickly displaced Sanchez. What is telling is that despite his time at Strasbourg there really doesn’t seem to much of an appetite for middle to high ranking clubs to sign him we know for instance that Utd, that Villa and yes Newcastle want keepers but his name hasn’t been linked with any of them. Look wider and clubs like Bournemouth & WHU amongst others are looking for keepers and yet again his name isn’t being mentioned. Is it they don’t rate his skill set highly enough? Or maybe even his attitude post Strasbourg have put them off him. Edited July 3, 20251 yr by terraloon

He'd displace Sanchez this season but our moronic board, directors and coach are set on having Sanchez as the number 1 (as they've already said too many times), why would he stay under those conditions knowing that to that lot he'll never get a level playing field?

Me, you, indeed save Poch who made the decisions we have no idea if he would have been first choice if Sanchez had been fit.I certainly don’t rate Sanchez but far too many are making out that Petrovic is a top class goalkeeper. Yet as I point out elsewhere even though clubs in the top half of the PL need keepers those clubs don’t seem to be rushing to sign him. Edited July 3, 20251 yr by terraloon

The next game after that was against Man City on 17/2/24 when Bettinelli was on the benchSanchez was again injured on 27/3/24.Between 17/2/24 and 27/3 when he was again injured we played 3 games2/3/ 24 Petrovic was in goal in a 2-2 draw with Brentford. Sanchez on bench11/3/ 24 Petrovic was in goal in a 3-2 win against Newcastle. Sanchez was on the bench17/3/24 Sanchez was in goal in a 4-2 win against Leicester Petrovic was on the bench. There were no more games before Sanchez was injured on 27/3 and was out till seasons end.Of course it’s speculation as to who would have been chosen post the 17/3/24.Maybe it would have been Sanchez, maybe it would have been Petrovic but based on the last game Sanchez when fit he started.Yes it was an FA cup game so that may have been the reason why Sanchez started but sorry save just two games where Sanchez was on the bench following what was reported as having had a hand injury when Petrovic started isn’t close to proof positive that he was “ displaced “ as opposed to being deputy. Not a bad plan until you remember you are resigning yourself to another season of Sanchez.

No agent would advise their player to wait when its been reported Champions League football is the biggest determinant for Miagnan, all the while there being a lot of uncertainty about how we as a club will perform this season. If we're 7th come January, I doubt he signs. Bayern and Barca will 100% be sniffing about given they love a free player.

He did indeed get relegated to the bench but when he was fit he either played or was on the bench.I like most think he has too many mistakes in him but when some simply make up things about his time at Brighton when the facts tell a different story then to a degree they lose the argument In his last season at Brighton (22/23) he started 23 PL games , was on the bench for 10 and was injured for 5
