Best we can do now is a Top 4. Any idea of a title challenge is done and dusted.

The stranglehold Ben Roberts has on the club is incredible.

I was hoping he would piss off to West Ham with the lads gave everything Graham potter and took his love child Sanchez with him

Think you're all getting a bit melodramatic

We are in a tournament. An important one. Enzo isn't going to entertain conversations of replacement goalies to the press.

I think we will still replace him.

Good for you, man. Know your worth and leave those who don't appreciate you.

Exactly.

I'm sure he would understand if he was being kept out by a keeper the calibre of Cech or Courtois. But when he sees Sanchez blocking his way it must piss him right off. He shouldn't have to wait for his chance - he should be playing NOW.

Here's what I remember and people, correct me, if I'm wrong because I'm getting old.

Sanchez starts as number one under Poch, gets injured and Petrovic replaces him in goal midway through the season. He proves he's better than Sanchez when he keeps him on the bench until the end of the season. Then, instead of rewarding Petrovic with a first choice spot they loan him out to Strasbourg and give the spot back to Sanchez. Petrovic has a brilliant season in France while Sanchez keeps sh*tting the bed at CFC. So Petrovic comes back and demands to be first choice or he leaves. They reject his demand and go with the usual "Robert is our number one" nonsense. I mean, it sounds mental to everyone, except people who are running the show at Chelsea, no?

This club never ceases to amaze me. Every time you think they can’t f**k up anymore they say : Hold my beer!!

Petrovic knows he's better than Sanchez why should play behind him. Honestly we could use more players with ambition like his.

Absolutely. Use Petrovic or sign someone world class.

We can't go into our third season with Brighton's third choice keeper.

"fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Going into the third season with the same GK, what's the saying for fool me three times?

I'm going to go against the grain here. If this is true, which is extremely dubious, then it's absolutely right that he didn't go to the CWC. He's had one good season in France in a weak league, that does not give him the clout to be making such demands. We cannot allow this to set a precedent.

He should come back and compete for the starting position, like any other player. He will get chances, but if he's not willing to do that, then good riddance.

He should never have been loaned in the first place, he'd already dislodged Sanchez once and the position should have been his into the new season. There was some made up nonsense about him not being able to play out from the back (literally better than Sanchez at this) and he's gone and proved himself AGAIN and whoever it may be in Maresca's ear is still telling him to continue with Sanchez.

Except he already did compete for that position and won. Why should he go through this again?

If we had Cech or Courtois as our starting goalkeeper and young Petrovic was demanding to start ahead of them I'd ship him out the moment he opened his mouth. But he proved he's better than Sanchez and he shouldn't accept anythig but a starting spot. Even in situations when backup goalkeepers know they aren't as good as starters they often demand to leave simply because they have ambition and self-belief and want to play regularly instead of warming the bench. If you know and proved you're the best in your position at the club, accepting anything but a starting spot is madness,

For the sake of argument, let's assume this ultimatum is true. It could well be bullsh*t, we don't know. Hard to believe, but apparently people are dishonest on Twitter sometimes.

I don't care if he replaced Sanchez in 2023-24, who we mostly agree is not the best goalkeeper on the planet. From what I remember, Sanchez got injured halfway through that season and was replaced by Petrovic, then Petrovic kept the spot. I remember he did fine, but there were also some heavy defeats, like the 5-0 drubbing by Arsenal.

If he's as good as he thinks he is, then he should have no trouble 'winning' the spot from Sanchez, again, who is the worst goalkeeper in the world ever. But this is not prime Gianluigi Buffon. We can't be accepting ultimatums from players of Petrovic's status (or any, I would argue). It's also possible we could still sign Maignan when the Window reopens, guaranteeing Petrovic the number 1 spot would completely scupper that.

It's not about accepting or rejecting ultimatums. It's about incompetence and unfair treatment of players when you're not rewarded on merit. Had we bought Magnan I wouldn't even be bothered about Petrovic leaving, just like I'd be OK if we get Maignan later. But we're talking about now, not what may or may not potentially happen. And right now the info we've got from the journos briefed by the club is that we haven't even made a bid for Magnan, we were offered the player but our valuation was nowhere near what AC Milan expected so we've moved on. Plus, "Sanchez is our number one, he had a strong end to the season" etc etc.

Petrovic feels he's done more than enough to get the starting place and I agree with him, I'd do the same if I was him. Either give me what I've earned or I'll go where people can appreciate what I've got to offer. It's bad enough he was loaned out instead of starting over Sanchez, he doesn't want to be disrespected again.

A mean Cech came from the French league, so did Essien and Malouda…. Calling it a weak league in my opinion is not accurate.

It's the best at finding top young players, but when it comes to competitiveness, it's a weak league. Experienced players stay there because they're not good enough to go anywhere else, young players don't stay long because England, Spain, Italy and Germany sign them all.

Sunderland are close to finalizing the signing of Chelsea FC goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović on a five-year deal. Deal worth around €25m.

Are we that desperate for a sale that we would sell him to Sunderland who most likely might end up in the championship the season after. Why not sell him to Strasbourg for £17m? He gets European football, and you leave the door open to buy him back. Why not sell him at a discounted fee to Sunderland and include a sell on clause, or a buyback fee?

WTF are the people making decisions in our club doing? We should be offloading Sanchez and handing Petrovic the No. 1 jersey but instead we're looking to sell him to Sunderland?

Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.

Absolute f**king jokers running this club. We spend £60m on Gittens and Pedro and we sell a keeper who just had big breakthrough season for cheap. If Petrovic wasn't already our player and just had the season he had, we would have put in an offer of at least £30m.

I get the frustration - we all are in agreement that Petrovic is more palatable than Sanchez. I also would prefer Petrovic to Sanchez - but I don't think Petrovic is the long term answer.

...and let's be honest - if the likes of Strasbourg, Sunderland and Bournemouth are looking at him - to me, this kind of shows his level. Signing a 5 yr contract at Sunderland, a team very likely to be relegated straight back to the championship is a silly move by the player.

The short version - during his short spell as first choice for us, he didn't look brilliant (steady at best). He did well in the French league - but the fact that no genuinely decent team is sniffing tells a story. Did I read somewhere before that we offered him to Milan as part of a proposal for big Mike - and even they shot us down?
