Even if we bring in a striker in the transfer window how long do we give them to settle into the side? If it’s Toney he’s not played in months. And anyone outside the Premier League is going to need time to adapt. By which time the season will be almost over and we’ll likely be stuck in mid table mediocrity, assuming we don’t collapse into the relegation zone. We should try Palmer as No 9, Mudryk on the left... Sterling on the right ... at least the three of them can move and have footballing brains ... we need someone a bit more dynamic who can move about and make sensible runs to get through the organized and packed defenses... Palmer likes to shoot - give him the 9 - I'm sure he'd do a better job than Jacskon or Broja

No more playing slow out of the back, no more trying to beat the press and then play through tight defences with intricate passes. It doesn't work, it's never worked for us. We don't test the keeper enough with this style of football and we always have a player that plays a loose pass to give up possession in our own half. We bought players that were not built to play this style of football, so why do our coaches keep insisting on it? You look at every highlight video of Mudryk before we bought him, none of his game was about intricate passes around a defence, he was all about running in behind the defence and using his pace. Gallagher at Palace was exactly the same, they were a counter attacking team and Gallagher was the work horse with a long range shot. He can't play intricate passes, it's not in his game. This is nothing new though is it..been like this for years, we buy players that are fast paced and want to run onto the ball, hardly did it with Torres, Mata, Lukaku, Salah and Abraham and while we've seen to some extent running onto through balls or over the top, we fcuk it up time and time again, whether it be Jackson or someone else. Drogba /Costa were about the only ones in recent times that was strong enough, had decent pace and certainly knew where the goal was, this lot apart from Palmer have no confidence in front of goal.

December 11, 20232 yr Two poor goals to give up again ... I'm starting to seriously question what the hell is going on with the defensive set up. Look how bunched we are when the ball comes in (this is just before Petrovic flaps at it). We have six effing outfield players bunched together at the back post. The whole team is in the penalty area and yet no-one has picked up the Everton player on the edge of the box who is of course the young lad that scored. This is just brainless defending. Poch played centre back himself. I don't think for one minute that the training is telling the players to be this stupid.
December 11, 20232 yr 8 hours ago, Snedger said: That was the case even before kick off. Dyche is getting more out of a side nearly relegated last year than Poch can out of a couple of billion quids worth of players. Either the players are all terrible or the coach is. My money is actually on both being terrible. True Snedger...but we are looking at two different styles of how the team wants to play. We know that Dyche, is not an attack minded coach...defence comes first, attack second fancy football is not high on his list..survival is, he spent long enough at Burnley perfecting the art...by choice we CFC historically has played possession based football, with some flair and until Jose arrived defensive football was bang average and it came and went over the years as we found some balance, didn't concede a lot, scored quite a few on occasion and it was balanced enough over the last 20 years to win bucket load of trophies. When Frank took over and while we scored we concede bucket loads, TT comes in closes the door defensively and towards the end of his tenure the football was dire for the most part; Potter comes in opens up attacking options but leaves the back door open and we've never recovered from it; The Board clearly felt they would find the balance with Potch, sadly its been nothing short of a disaster so far; ravaged by injuries, young players making basic mistakes, inexperienced players making bad decisions, players forced to play out of position. Not defending our manager one bit, because he's made some head scratching decisions of late but are these forced on him due to the injuries or is he that bad. I think many of the players we bought were simply not the right fit for the style he wants to play, they are not terrible players but they are struggling to find any consistency or rhythm with all the changes week in week out and he has no focal point to plan his attack around; Jackson has been shocking, Broja can't be relied up. We all know we need a CF, he does and I no doubt the club does too. ..lets see what January brings...we can but hope for a turn around.

December 11, 20232 yr I don't think defense is our problem. We didn’t look like we are going to score the whole game.
December 11, 20232 yr While I caught all of the first half, unfortunately I only managed to capture snippets of the 2nd. We seemed to start off OK but boy that midfield is a disaster and has been for a few games now. WTF is Enzo doing playing so far forward, and with Gallagher running around like a blue arse fly you could drive a bus through that midfield. We've had absolutely no control of the midfield for several weeks, for £200+ mill on two players it just isn't working in this current set up. I thought the plan was for the season was for Enzo and Caicedo playing along side each other, with Gallagher or who every else the manager chooses, playing as the forward attacking role, well that's all gone to sh*t. Defensively we looked a bit better until the first goal went it, everybody standing around watching as usual and as for the 2nd we need to wake up and show a sense of urgency. Until we get a focal point in attack this woeful forward play will continue; We have been decimated by injuries, which of course the media won't talk about unless its Loverpool, Newcastle, City, Brighton or Spurs all the darlings of the EPL. But these injuries have affected the way we the manager wants us to play and he's trying with all the wrong players starting with Sanchez, who has been nothing short of a one man circus for the most part, how can a goalkeeper who f**ks and farts around like he does instil any confidence in his defenders. The back four has never been consistent, the midfield is all over the place and the forwards, Palmer excluded, are pretty much brain dead making the wrong choices at the wrong time and neither can hit a barn door. This is becoming laughable but I am saddened at the same time..all we can do is move forward and hope we survive the season and finish 17th at worse. These young players have lost all faith and confidence in themselves and to add insult to injury, there is no-one leading them on the pitch when things get tough...who out of this lot can pick up the mantle...never saw one player IMO who could do that, James, Sterling, Gallagher included...tough times ahead and the pressure is going to be on the Board in January and it would not surprise me in the least to see 4-5 players out the door.
December 11, 20232 yr The performance is fine but we can't score and that is once again our biggest problems. You can talk tactic or whatever system, we get the ball in good situation = nothing happen. This happen again again 😴😴😴

I'm not saying play long, I am saying be more direct. Get it to the attacking players quicker. Liverpool did that for years with Salah, Mane and Firmino. Leicester did it with Vardy and Mahrez. This constant slow possession based crap has gotten us nowhere, it's time to ditch it.

Liverpool can go direct because you can lump crazy ball to salah and mane and the ball stick. You lump crazy ball to Mudryk and Borja you will 😭😭😭 If you want to play counter attacking game. You need to be clinical, we had many transition chances vs Everton and it led to nothing

Whoever thought it was a good idea to go into this season with Jackson and Broja as our strike force needs to be sacked, especially once it became clear how serious Nkunku’s injury was. We’ve got a chance to rectify it in the coming window, but it’s all a bit late as the damage has already been done. Do we though with FFP looming over our heads. I wonder what the fan reaction would be if both James and Gallagher are sold next month to help fund a proven striker, or more likely an unproven striker in this league.
December 11, 20232 yr 8 hours ago, wizardous said: Where do you actually see this high pressing? We've seen some early in the season but in the last couple of games it's been non-existent for most of the time. Today it was the same script all over again, not for a single moment I thought we were going to score. Same, predictable attacking patterns with no individual quality to rely on either. We complain all the time about our attackers not finishing chances yet today we created zero, and it's not for the first time. Not to mention 14 (!?) goals conceded over the last 5 games, of course the worst record in the league. That probably deserves a whole topic. What I see here is a mediocre team, stacked with inexperienced players of limited potential, that lacks leadership and most importantly, hunger and desire to represent this club. I genuinely expect nothing but that at this point as realistically we don't have much to play for this season. And it's the manager's responsibility. The same manager who stubbornly insists on a style of play that doesn't work, puts players out of positions and doesn't seem to have a plan B. I wonder how do you expect us to find consistency? Next week it's Sheffield who've got Wilder back, so be sure they're gonna commit to it and fight for every single ball. It has all the makings of another frustrating afternoon. After that it's three games in six days, with a paper thin squad, and I wouldn't bet against even more players getting sidelined. If we are at the stage of grimacing at the prospect of facing Sheffield Utd then we really are in the relegation scrap.
December 11, 20232 yr Nothing is changed. We have no motivation, no energy. The way Sterling and Jackson came into the game just gave me the feeling we're going to lose. There is nothing to add, everything was told. Disappointment.

We can look at our players and they are for the most part above average players. Our coach is also an above average coach - seems like a nice bloke too. We are currently performing at a below average level. We have shown glimpses against Arsenal and Citeh of being a promising Project. I don't dislike any of our current players - they seem to be good lads and they are 'trying' imho. There is no longer any point in referring to any individual player for praise or as a scapegoat. Because the idea of playing a bunch of assorted young highly talented kids together in the hope of creating a 'team' is truly bogus. Apart from Thiago where are the grown-up players in this squad? Where is the identity? This project is failing. The project is failing. Our current owners and the clubs obsession with its 'Vision List' in terms of recruiting is at fault. This is a huge problem, because there really is no alternative other than to keep going. We have the squad we have. We have to wait for some of the players to grow up. We can add a more experienced player here and there but again that takes time to have an impact. To readjust the squad will take time. To persevere with what we have will take time. We have to just sit back and watch and wait.
December 11, 20232 yr We need a sitting midfielder Enzo does not seem to want to play there and Caicedo is built for movement not sitting. Would not be surprised if we brought Santos back from loan. Gallagher might go and another striker come in. Injuries are killing us and our midfield balance is wrong, have to admit was shocked when we sold Jorginho and just brought in Enzo thought they would make a good midfield paring. Not 1 for 1, it does make you wonder at times.

I would sell Reece James in a heartbeat and spend the money on an average but reliably fit full back. Someone like Gusto if fit would do fine. Gusto himself was injured most of last season and injured most of this season. The owners get taken for a ride buying talented but broken players. Its by far my biggest complaint. Trouble is who is going to pay any money for a guy like Reece that spends 75% of the time in the treatment room?
