Petrovic gained the plaudits last night, the save that won it was a fine save. The heroes though were our penalty takers, all unstoppable, possibly the finest set we’ve had in a shootout.

Came here to say this our penalties were top notch, no funny run up just put your foot through it and get it on target. They were all superb penalties.

Newcastle fans Are jealous of our success and are super bitter about it. As far as they're concerned we're not a big club and bought everything. you can buy all the best players and still not win everything (PSG anyone?)  I'm waiting to see once they win something (after all the last time was 1969!) how the morality police responds.

Newcastle being a big club with a rich history is the biggest myth in football. Haven't achieved anything in decades and they've always been up and down the divisions. Sunderland have arguably been more successful than them having won more top flight titles.

Too many people have this weird nostalgia of them being big because they were good for season or two under Keegan and then later under Robson.

Newcastle's last major trophy is technically the FA Cup in 1955, as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (a precursor to the UEFA Cup/Europa League) won in 1969 isn't recognised by UEFA as a part of their records.

Christ... Just listening to Jamie Redtwat's post match "analysis".

He said "I reckon Eddie Howe will be in that dressing room wondering how on Earth Newcastle haven't won that".

What an absolute an utter cretin the bloke is.

He’s a twat that’s why I switch on games 1 minute before and switch off as soon as the post match analysis start

I do the same. Can't be bothered to listen to the crap from the pundits before and after a game. Commentary gets turned down a lot of the time these days too. I'm so bored of listening to the same rubbish about how much one of our players cost. The co-commentators are the worst though, like that d**khead last night. Cried about Caicedo's challenge, which I thought was clumsy more than deliberate, and then complained more at Maatsen's reaction to Guimaraes karate kick in the last minute.

Lol, what the hell happened. I was absolutely certain we were out after Newcastle scored. Gotta feel a bit for Trippier after that though

Thought about that for about 2 seconds, and no, not at all.

The winner of this thing qualifies for the Europa Conference League. Might be our best chance of any European football next season.

Have we won that one yet?

Take aways from last nights game?

We have a player in gusto. Left or right back he looks more than capable of taking Jame's spot full time should he not go down with the Chelsea injury plague. We need to find Gusto's deputy.

Petrovic is the new number one keeper.

Palmer should have the team built around his talent as we did with Hazard

Im super critical of silva but he looked imperious last night. half tempted to hope the club offer another year.

the club dropped a massive clanger in letting Livramento move on a few years back. I would certainly look at retaining Lewis Hall and developing him for a left sided role.

Big fan of both Broja and Jackson, both bring merit to the side if not regular goals just yet. they need to keep plugging away at their respective games.

I think last nights result was hugely positive. We will drop many more points between now and end of season, but if you can't see shoots of development in this side, the way it retains the ball and passes it around, its on you to open your eyes. We didnt look like we did under potter or lamps. Credit to the poch.

Improvements?

intensity. If the entire team can play with Gallaghers intensity, top four/ title run within a couple of seasons. Players are still getting used to each others wavelengths and we still look a little bereft of goal scoring nouse. Again, think the current set of player we have will improve. I dont see a need for any January signings. Poch has gotten into this lot, things are taking shape.

Only into the semis but it's a big step in the right direction.

The same Lewis Hall we sold to newcastle in the summer?

You're being very polite there.

What pissed me off was the comment that Mattsen was not hit in the face, why is he holding his face, implying he's cheating. I think the mass of white line chalk on his face clearly showed he must have face planted the floor on landing, that's why he's holding it. These f**king numbskull commentators, i often wonder if they're actually watching the same match, or studying their crib sheets for the next oppertunity to mention that you don't get much for a billion pound.

Just came on here to say the same. It wasn’t just him. Shay ‘impartial’ given was talking on similar theme while moaning about injuries Newcastle have, completely ignoring the well renowned issues chelsea have had from day one. there seemed to be little acknowledgement that Newcastle didn’t create one single chance, scoring from a far worse bunch of mistakes than Trippier’s.

Why is it chelsea rarely have an ex player on tv covering their games who have actual understanding of what’s going at the club while other clubs always do?

i’m still incredulous that Redknapp chose to slag off Mudryk while talking over his goal. Yeah we know he’s not finished article but this was a high point for him. Why not reflect on that?

One of the most deluded fanbases in world football. You’re only a big club in your own heads/city.

£88m has just been repaid!

Popular misconception. He will only cost that much if chelsea win premier leagues/champions leagues…not something club have to worry about for a while and obviously won’t complain if they do 😂

With Arsenal at the weekend and a few injuries piling up hopefully Liverpool don't take this seriously

Of course we know we'll be drawn against the scouse. The establishment will ensure it.
