December 30, 20232 yr Petrovic Disasi Gilchrist Colwill Maatsen Gallagher Caicedo Madueke Nkunku Mudryk Jackson A well-earned rest for Cole Palmer ... A "Made-in-Cobham" centre back pairing ... A final run out for Jackson before he heads off to the ACoN I would love to rest the midfielders, but I'm not sure we're going to have anyone else available !

January 1, 20242 yr Sunderland - Preston NE at half time currently. Sunderland lead 2-0. Preston looks like a decent side with some skillful players but we absolutely should win here. They are 11th in the Championship so they are doing similarly as we do in the Prem. Nice to see could they potentially turn this game around second half.
January 1, 20242 yr We have the first leg at Boro a few days after this one. So, I fully expect a few players to be rested. Hopefully Gilchrist gets his first start. Perhaps the likes of Matos and Castledine will get some minutes too. Preston are a decent team, but as long as we approach the game with the right attitude, we should win this one.

Would love to see Gilchrist get 90 minutes but otherwise think we should put out a strong team.
January 1, 20242 yr Petrovic Gilchrist Disasi Badiashile Gusto Caicedo Enzo Madueke Nkunku Mudryk Jackson
January 1, 20242 yr If we can't beat PNE at home in a cup tie, then some serious questions have to be answered.
January 2, 20242 yr Petrovic Gilchrist Badiashile Colwill Maatsen Caicedo Enzo Madueke Nkunku Mudryk Broja
January 2, 20242 yr Good opportunity for gilchrist to get some minutes and nkunku to build up some match fitness
January 2, 20242 yr Petrovic gilchrist disasi badi colwill enzo caicedo madueke Gallagher sterling broja
January 2, 20242 yr Matos off to Huddersfield on loan apparently. So looks like he is one younger player that won't be featuring.

January 3, 20242 yr Petrovic Gilchrist Disasi Colwill Sterling Gallagher Caicedo Maatsen Madueke Broja Mudryk No point risking Nkunku or Palmer imo.

Interesting line up, but can't see us deviating from the 4-2-3-1 myself. Badiashile might be better as the middle centre back ahead of Disasi ? Why Sterling ahead of Gusto at RWB ?

Why Sterling ahead of Gusto at RWB ? I think you're probably right. I'd like to see us try a back 3 again, think it really suits the current squad. Was just thinking to rest Gusto and avoid injury in a small-ish fixture, he'd be first choice going forward. Also not against Badi coming in for Disasi, think he's the better player of the two just know how much Poch seems to like Disasi.
January 3, 20242 yr Our defence is too crap to play a back 4, we are conceding a lot of goals and the flaws of these players are being exposed time again. I think we need to consider going back to a back 5, until we can improve the quality we have at the back. Which means getting rid of people like Disasi, hopefully getting a fully fit Fofana back in, etc...
