Yep, but I guess that was a game where people felt we had more onus to win the game as Liverpool were on 'holiday mode' as well as resting some players too. This game, we had several injuries and played a team, who apart from Allison, had a fully fit team, so in the circumstances, yes probably would agree.

To be fair, season was over by then and Liverpool had already won the title.

To be fair, Liverpool are currently in their worst form in years and couldn't buy a win.

To be fairer theyre usually the games we gift wins to the opposition in...

I suppose the caveat there was they had already won the league and weren't trying as hard. That being said, beating PSG 3-0 for the CWC final is hands down the best result we've had, probably since the CL final in 2021.

Bit weird to say a 2-1 home league win over liverpool is the best result in the last 3 years...

Do we tend to excel when we play a top team that attacks us, PSG & this lot. ?Maybe Maresca fights fire with fire.

I'm sure he will revert to a cautious approach ( sadly v Forest and co) but who knows he may see the light.

We are certainly inconsistent but so is his approach. Cautious would be ok if we were consistently clinical but with a young and unbalanced squad it can be painful.

Anyway I'm still pumped up after Saturday any win v the bin dippers is nectar to me, but this was sweet especially with the later than late goal from Estevao.

I keep watching the replay but Old man Robertson is never gonna catch him. Haha

Our next 5 leafur games are:

Sunderland (H)

Spurs (A)

Wolves (H)

Burnley (A)

Before we play Arsenal at home. Those 5 should be 15 points. No excuses.

Just like Brentford, United and brighton should have been 9 points not 1!

We've been poor this season up until the Liverpool game. Just like the outstanding final against PSG , I can't see anything changing afterwards. Maresca is wedded to his system, the club is sticking with the young playing churn every window.

I would love to be wrong , I would absolutely love it !! ( Copyright KK)

It's easier - relatively speaking - against attacking teams who can be wide open at the back. Breaking down teams who sit and wait is the issue. And those teams know it.

Anyone know how many are away on international duty ??

I always think the season doesn't really kick into gear properly until after the next international break ( November? )

That and if they don’t press effectively.

Liverpool’s press under Slot is actually pretty sh*t. Gakpo, Isak, and Salah don’t press well which leaves a lot of space in midfield. Liverpool’s midfield also finally looking tired after doing donkey work for 18 months.

Maresca on low blocks

So with Maresca starting an unfit striker and being without Liam Delap who is out for the long-term, he really didn’t want to be facing the low block of Brentford this weekend.

The Blues boss has revealed that having ‘a proper 9’ is key to breaking down a low block.

He said:

“When we face a deep block team, having a proper 9 and Joao [Pedro] in behind, in the way we played against West Ham with Joao and Liam [Delap], and how we started against Fulham with Joao and Liam, that is the perfect situation for Joao.”

Looks like Gaelic football have a similar problem. Having watched it I'm baffled how there is any meaningful possession in that game at all . Prefer watching hurling myself

How do you stop boring, possession-based football? Make radical change to tackling with International Rules challenges"

I know but Liverpool had already won the league by then, they went on to lose to Brighton after.

The stakes weren't high on their end. This time, they were big time, and had every advantage on us, and we still came out on top.

This is exactly the issue though. We know the squad we have is good enough to be challenging at the very top. It was proven at the start of last season, it was proven in the second half of the conference league final, it was proven against PSG and it was proven again yesterday. All games where we don’t f**k about knocking it between our CB’s and giving away easy chances while creating zilch.

I don’t know how Maresca can see what our strengths are so often then try to do the complete opposite the following game. Stupidity or arrogance, take you pick.

Also bald.

Conference league 😂😂😂

I am still confused that this is still a discussion.

The stuff that many fans here complain is the same stuff that they love because Maresca has been running similar system for over 1 season now. The biggest different is how opp play us.

We scored 4 goals in a single half of a European final we were losing. I don't care about the prestigiousness of the competition, it clearly shows the level of our squad when we want to try.

Can we stop bigging up the Club world cup as a meaningful competition? It isnt and Manchester United did devalue the FA cup all those years ago taking part in it. We've won it all but I wont remember this one on my deathbed, trumped by league and FA cups.

No Benitez is coming back to phase out the over the hill players again, those 25+ year olds are just too old to be playing for us!

That should help BlueCo increase their popularity.
