July 11, 20242 yr Call me old fashioned, but I still like my keepers to be good at actual saves, stop shots that you'd expect to be goals, keep clean sheets etc etc. Surely far more important than a handful of nice passes mostly to defenders 🙂 Edited July 11, 20242 yr by Sexyfootball
July 11, 20242 yr Must admit I like very much what I've seen from Maresca in his first interview and these early training session clips. Early days but encouraging signs for sure ...

But it doesn't change the fact keepers being good passing is a big requirement in today's game.

But it doesn't change the fact keepers being good passing is a big requirement in today's game. Courtois is dog sh*t at ball playing and Madrid have done alright with him. Realistically, a keeper needs to be competent in passing 10 yards to a CB or a little dink out to a full back. Further afield than that its usually a contested header anyway so they might as well put their foot through it and pray.

This is one reason why City for example usually get out of there. Historically we have been awful at that although we have tried to build from the back for at least 10 years.
July 11, 20242 yr Alex Ferguson was absolutely right when he said a top keeper wins 15 points a season. None of our keepers look capable of anywhere close to that. The keeper is the one position that should be exempt from the rule of signing players under 26. I think I read that Oblak is available for a much reduced fee although he would be on massive wages. He’s good enough to justify it I’d say.
July 12, 20242 yr I remember when Jose said we were getting a 50mil player (equivalent of 100mil now I guess) and it turned out we were getting Czech back from injury. I remember the clip quite clearly actually. A young goalkeeper is ok but I do remember reading their prime is at the older end. The Netherlands goalkeeper is 21 right? But he's a 1 off. Anyway, I agree...I don't mind a young keeper as an understudy but someone with a voice and some maturity to command and direct his def would be preferred. Petrovic is still number one for me out of our current lot. Edited July 12, 20242 yr by Simplymo

July 12, 20242 yr Author Weren't we linked to that Las Palmas GK who by all accounts sounds perfect for Maresca?
July 12, 20242 yr Is this going to be the 3rd season in a row with a new manager, and new players ,some players unfamiliar with each other and some unfamiliar with the EPL ?

We gave Potter and probably Poch a hell of a lot longer than Roman would have. Potter would have been sacked before Xmas had Roman been here.
July 13, 20242 yr We got a new Doctor apparently. Chelsea have reportedly hired former Bournemouth club doctor Craig Roberts. Anybody know anything about him? Is he good with the sports science and doctoring type of thing? God knows we need to have a lot less injuries this season.

Yeah, lots of good things about him on line, lots of experience, got an excellent reputation as director of medical teams etc etc, seems to be well respected. He left Bournemouth last December. Let's hope it works out

He left Bournemouth last December. Let's hope it works out I read an article a few days ago that it was a major revamp in that dept. 4 pronged dept to deal with all the injuries. I found these 2 links but I can't find the other indepth article I read. Tbh...with the issues we have in rgds to injuries, I want them to spend all the money they can on it. We actually have a decent squad if we can get them out of the nurses office. https://trainingground.guru/articles/chelsea-hire-ex-bournemouth-medical-director-to-lead-revamped-team https://blueco.substack.com/p/chelsea-overhauls-medical-department
July 13, 20242 yr Very good interview with Chris Robinson who was a Chelsea scout and worked with the academy. Talks about the loan system too

Lol A behind-closed-doors training game so not directly a friendly! Mudryk, Nkunku, and Noni had 2, and I think it was Chilwell the other scorer!
