Plenty of deadwood to get rid of, including our Albanian friend.
July 20, 20241 yr I’m worried already if reports are true about Sánchez being our number 1 . His worst attribute is his playing out from the back but according to the reporters that’s his strength according Maresca . 2 positions we needed badly a goalkeeper and a forward and we still haven’t signed anyone

First of all keeper needs to be able to stop shots. Sanchez does that well enough. Secondly play from the back sides that are good at it can easily circulate the ball between players even close to their goal. We have never done that well and one reason is the keeper. Fact is we haven't really had players that are good at it either never mind the keeper. Think about David Luiz. He was super-relaxed with the ball. That is what we need. Keeper and backline of David Luiz level ease. Just like City does. I think from the players Reece, Malo, Fofana, new guy from Fulham, Cucu can be pretty relaxed, head up, comfortable with the ball under pressure. Others not so sure. Sanchez' problem is he made horror mistakes with the ball. He chose wrong many times that either cost us or nearly cost us. He is well relaxed. He needs defenders and other outfield players to be relaxed as well. I think Sanchez couldn't trust all of them. With proper training he can do much better. The team work and mentality of it is key. Petrovic looks horrified with the ball at his feet just like Cahill few years back. That is something you can't teach I think. This is why we are looking to move Petro and trying to find a ball playing keeper.

Of course it doesn't mean anything until we see the team play, but there's a different energy to these training videos. Also great to see Maresca being hands on and involved. I think most of last season's training videos showed Poch on the sideline with his arms crossed. I was just about to post exactly the same type of comment Whilst it may be basics, it may be obvious but you just wonder if some of the squad were in effect left to their own devices If the HC coach can squeeze just another 10% out of the players well who knows what will happen but for me it’s clear that there seems to be far more attention to detail than seen for many a year when these training videos are posted.

Sorry but you can’t blame the defenders for stray passes . he’s a decent shot stopper and that’s it de zerbi drooped him because he couldn’t pass out from the back . We only signed him because of Ben Roberts and no offense paying £25 million for him was ridiculous last year of his contract and no club was in for him apart from us .

Holding hands in a group, even though ostensibly about catching a t shirt, in my opinion, does do some bonding. Once long, long ago I went on a wild life protest mainly to accompany my then girlfriend now wife. We all held hands around the fire on the first morning and dis some kind of chant. It actually worked. The shooting, no pressure of course, from Madueke was really very accurate. I watch Sydney FC pre match warm up for many seasons and the shooting is nothing like that. Nothing like it at all. It took Madueke ages to pull the trigger.

Not blaming defenders per say but you can't succeed in what Maresca wants if other players are not in tune or someone who you safely can pass to. Team work.

He wants a return to RM as #2 but they already have good cover for the snake in the form of Lunin. He could be leaving if he does seems Kepa is a shoe in. If Kepa does leave Chelsea that will enable a new keeper to be brought in obviously someone Enzo fancies to tick all his boxes. Fingers crossed Kepa goes then although personally I rate him higher than Sanchez who is pony all day, all night and all season long.
July 21, 20241 yr When Ben Roberts first arrived I was pleased because I was impressed with some of the GK drills and training sessions that he did. But as things have developed our poor entire goalkeeping department seems to be getting worse and seems to coincide with the increase in Roberts' influence at the club. It's quite laughable that we are now being linked with Marcin Bulka who left the club due to a lack of attention to him when all along he was an able number 2 among the plethora of keepers that have come along. Whilst Bulka has been away increasing his profile to pique our interest, we have seen Kepa, Mendy, Bettinelli, Sanchez, Petrovic and Slonina all come in and none have shown that they are any better than what we already had. Ben Roberts has been at the centre of this for an increasing length of time now as this department continues to get its decisions wrong.
July 21, 20241 yr Keepers that play with their feet worry me because more often than not, whilst they can use the ball, they are generally poor keepers. Look at Onana. Terrible. It’s extreme financial mismanagement that we can spend £60m on 3 new goalkeepers and still need one. Bonkers. Such poor planning.

Gordon Banks had retired before I was old enough to be interested in football. I do think Ray Clemence would have been good in the modern game. He played as a ‘keeper, sweeper’ at his peak with Liverpool. He was very good at reading the game and was decent with his feet.

Anyone thinking Sanchez is decent with his feet surely can't have seen him play. He's complete dogsh*t and we should cut our losses and get rid. Ben Roberts and the Sporting Directors f**ked up big time paying £25m for such dross.
July 21, 20241 yr 1 hour ago, ozboy said: Wonder how Gordon Banks have gone in the modern age. Was he good with his feet? There isn't a single keeper who was good with his feet even up to Cech simply cause they didn't need to be. Sit through any English game of the past for example Chelsea when Beasant was in goal it's just him kicking the ball long to Dixon-Wilson - Durie etc. @erskblue Is talking bollocks Ray Clemence was never a sweeper keeper at Liverpool or Spurs I have no idea where he got that from. There was a game from 1979 recently on the big match revisited I only watched it cause Chelsea were also on between Arsenal and Liverpool it finished 0-0 and it was just Pat Jennings kicking it long it would land at Ray Clemence who would kick it long back it was dire stuff. Goalkeepers doesn't matter what level of football you played went in goal cause either they were tall (honestly it was that simplistic) or they liked the game but were absolutely terrible footballers so only had one option go in goal the likes of Bonetti, Banks, Shilton, Clemence, Corrigan, Parkes etc all outstanding keepers you'd be hard pressed to find a clip of them passing a ball 10 yards it just wasn't required. And go back like I said Cech used to hit it long to Drogba a hell of a lot.

Thinking about it, the changed requirement follows the rule change that prevents the back pass to the goalie. I do think accurate throwing is a real skill. Edited July 22, 20241 yr by ozboy

In the first few seasons I did enjoy the GK coach, Jim Fraser, absolutely nailing perfect crosses from the corner time after time!
