Tommy Tuchel - England Manager

Featured Replies

I wish all the best to TT. But I don't wish any success to team England. Especially now when people in England are openly talking about the choice of manager not being English. Sorry but you lot don't deserve a man and a manager like Tuchel

Help pls, don't fully understand the national league format.

Does this mean it may be better for us (in rgds to the world cup) to come second in the current grp and play the "play-offs" to end up in the top grp!?

If England beat Greece and then finish top of their Uefa Nations League group, Tuchel's opening matches in March will be either World Cup qualifiers or friendlies, depending on the size of their qualifying group. If they finish second, England will instead face a two-leg play-off and a potential return to the top tier of the Uefa Nations League.

Other changes I'd like to see is bringing back the back pass rule and banning heading.  I think that will spread the game a bit more.  As Michael Owen said, he preferred the sport back in the day.  I want to see more long passing from midfielders.  Also, if it would be ball to hand or ball to face/head it'll be play-on, if a player hasn't obviously attacked the ball with his/her hand or head it won't be a penalty or a free-kick.

A few surprises (both who is included, and who has been left out) in his first England squad :

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton), James Trafford (Burnley)

Defenders: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool), Kyle Walker (AC Milan, loan from Manchester City)

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Jordan Henderson (A**x), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa, loan from Manchester United), Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur)

This reminds me of when he took over us and picked the old regulars to begin with before giving chances to other players. It upset people at the time (and I was one of them) but it worked out in the end. I do hope this is the case this time too because it's time to move on from Henderson (Gallagher should take his spot) and Walker.

I'm happy for James that he got in, but I'm still worried. It feels too soon. Watkins shouldn't have been left out though, we need to move on from Kane eventually.

Yeah I’m worried about Tuchel using James as a wing back. You can see why he’d want to but hopefully he will be considerate, perhaps he will be used as a centre back like the champions league final.

The focus on Rashford has become really insufferable. It's like Gerrard all over again, but the difference is that Rashford isn't anywhere near as good. I don't get the obsession with him. Tuchel calling him out for his average performance was spot on and straight to the point. Usually when this happens, Rashford starts sulking.

I thought he had an okay performance, much better than Foden at least who offered nothing apart from back passes.

Rashford at least tried to make things happen by taking players on.

Foden was easily the worst player on the pitch and to be honest he doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the England team.
