I dont understand why everyone thinks the goal should be given. Ref has to play the laws of the gane not 'what fans or Gary Neville think'. Haaland fouls him which stops him clearing it. Ref can't give that. He then does the right thing and takes it back to issue the red card.

It seems bizarre but once Haaland fouls him back and prevents him from clearing it the ref had no choice.

Liverpool lost, miss their best player for a match and Arsenal have a fight on their hands again, a good day as far as I’m concerned.

Exactly. The idea that the two fouls somehow net off against each other is pie in the sky nonsense. That concept doesn't exist in the laws of the game.

If Slobberdobberzak had cleared it everyone would be crying out he should have been sent off.

In this case it did though. If Szoboszlai doesn't tug Haaland, Haaland is through and scores a tap in.

Yes, because he would have been the only player that committed a foul.

This was just the refs being pedantic.

He does tug him though, Halaand fouling him back and stopping him clearing it was the problem, it cancels out the advantage played.

What if Szoboslai scored the winning goal against Sunderland if we “let him off”.

Sunderland would be within their rights to complain to the PGMOL.

Then it’s messy.

Szoboslai tried to cheat and still clear the ball.

The refs and VAR had no choice but to follow the rules because of Halaand fouling him back and preventing him from clearing it, so it had to go back to the 1st offence.

It seems bizarre but the refs followed the rules and letting it slide would have been wrong and would have impacted Sunderland.

It was the correct decision.

They do? Think that is just wishful thinking.

Dominik Szoboszlai red card: Did ref and VAR in Liverpool...

Manchester City's win at Liverpool ended in complete chaos - but did the referee and the VAR get Dominik Szoboszlai's red card right?

Explains the decision and is 100% correct. You can't just ignore the laws of the game to suit what feels right.

Looking at only the match, VAR did not add to the end of the game.

BUT, if Chelsea were playing Liverpool next, and Szoboszlai scored a winner against us, I’d be mad he was even playing. Another view - what if that was anything before the 90th minute - would people feel different?

Objectively, the right decision. Not as fun to watch.

As soon as Haaland grabbed at szoboszlai shirt the ref and VAR had no choice unfortunately. I do find it fun seeing people say things like "well they both did it so they cancel each other out", like thats every been anything even close to being a rule 😅

It was dumb as f**k by szoboszlai, it was an obvious red and gained him and his team nothing, but now he misses an important game.

I asked a Liverpool fan this and as expected he had no answer, but the truth is if that was 60 minutes into the game no one would have a complaint about the red card, other than the more hard of thinking section of Liverpool fans, obviously.

Spot on. Pawson and VAR got it right. Pawson correctly played advantage.

funniest part was that he was basically asking for it after the ball went into the net 😂

Just so stupid, I know lets highlight to the ref that there's been fouls so he goes to VAR and sends me off....amazes me that fans are complaining about VAR rather than there own thick as pig sh*t footballer.
