April 5, 201610 yr Watched Up In The Air, starring George Clooney. Was better than I expected it to be even if the ending was a bit of a downer, would recommend it. Watched Ace Ventura with my boy, I think he's at an age now where he'll giggle at that sort of comedy. Got to say, I don't think 90s comedy has aged well. And watched Argo, possibly riding on the coat tails of my enjoyment of the BatFleck. Put off watching it because I wasn't really sold on the synopsis but it was really enjoyable and I can see why it won best picture.

April 5, 201610 yr I think older horror films are much better than today's CGI Gore offerings. My faves are.. The Omen An American Werewolf in London The Original Nightmare on Elm Street The Amityville Horror It it is a good film. Tim Curry is superb as Pennywise. I recommend reading in the book. An excellent read. There are a few bits in the book which are missing from the film.
April 5, 201610 yr I've just read what The Wicker Man and The Omen are about. Pffft, both fictional circumstances (although to be honest we all know the sort of stuff that goes on in The Wicker Man still unfortunately happens in certain countries today) and this sh*t in The Birds could happen in ENGLAND. However, I'll still give both a watch. I think I’m more scared of psychological horror movies rather than slasher ones. And I agree with the Nightmare on Elm Street too, think I watched it when I was 10ish, scared the hell out of me but watching it later on in life it’s like meh… Amityville Horror I’ve not seen but that’s because it’s based on true events which always makes me a bit uneasy. Scream was good, just the first though.

April 5, 201610 yr I say that and then I really like Psycho which is based on Ed Gein so clearly I'm not too fussed haha. What's it about?
April 5, 201610 yr I think older horror films are much better than today's CGI Gore offerings. My faves are.. The Omen The Omen scared the sh*t out of me when I watched it as a kid years ago. That part in the snowy graveyard, the BOOM! The dogs *shudders* I watched it again at university with my housemate after we had partaken of the herbal remedy and we were both shrieking at the tops of our voices and ended up barricading ourselves in his room in a state of pure paranoia, practically frothing at the mouths. Never again!
April 5, 201610 yr I say that and then I really like Psycho which is based on Ed Gein so clearly I'm not too fussed haha. What's it about? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is loosely based on Ed Gein too. The Entity is a film of supposedly true events in the 70's of a lady who is stalked and repeatrdly assaulted by a Poltergeist.
April 5, 201610 yr I'd rather Leatherface chase me than Birds! How fast can you run carrying a chainsaw I ask?? Birds can fly(!). I didn't know TCM was loosely based on him too, I guess using the skin of his victims was similar. Can you tell I'm still not over The Birds :/

Can you tell I'm still not over The Birds :/ What I found frightening about the Wicker Man is that it was so plausible. Happy clappy weird religious sect enticing a victim to their island to be used in a sacrifice. If you liked Psycho, Gem, you should watch Bates Motel! Totally addictive - and the kid who plays young Norman fits in so well with Anthony Perkins. The mother figure is incredibly well portrayed too!
April 5, 201610 yr I think I’m more scared of psychological horror movies rather than slasher ones. So am I, they're definitely scarier, but I don't think the Wicker Man is a slasher, a bit of a thriller/horror if anything.
April 5, 201610 yr Gem and Moi, agree with you about the Wicker Man and it being plausible. I think that when it came out that it didn't do well at the Cinema but over the years has become a cult film. Is based on a book called Ritual by David Pinner. Another one to add to the list of books for me to read. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ritual-David-Pinner/dp/0956706304/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1459857042&sr=1-1&keywords=ritual

I watched the first season and could not get over how boring it was, I did try Moi but nothing exciting ever happened till the last 5 minute and by then I was half asleep from boredom. I do think Vera Farmiga is fantastic though.
April 5, 201610 yr I'm going to ban anyone who doesn't agree The Birds is the scariest film of all time. See, now we're entering into 1984 territory...!

April 5, 201610 yr I don't know about The Birds, but I crap my pants whenever crazy pigeons fly towards my face. At the weekend I went to see Victoria, a German film about a group of young people in Berlin who are pressurised into committing a bank robbery by some gangsters. It's a "one-shot" movie in the vein of Birdman, however it's less flashy and much more naturalistic in style. The acting is brilliant and the dialogue is very realistic (I suspect much of it was ad-libbed). The only criticism is that it takes a while to get going (since it happens in real time you can't just jump forward to the action), but everything from the bank robbery onwards really had me gripped. I could literally feel my heart racing during some scenes. Loved it.

I don't think it's been in the cinema over here.

I saw it at my local Curzon cinema but it's also available on their streaming service (possibly UK only, I'm not sure) and on iTunes. I doubt it will make it into the big multiplexes unfortunately; people mostly want to see hunky guys running around in lycra, for some reason.
April 5, 201610 yr Excuse me bluedave, not all of us are after that. Personally they can be flying, walking, fighting... doesn't have to be limited to running.

We've got some decent art house cinemas over here and sometimes there's screenings of some pretty obscure stuff. Well, obscure compared to to the stuff that's at the multiplexes. The festivals are usually the best place to see stuff like this.

April 8, 201610 yr The original Wicker Man is a great film. Have seen it a few times over the years. Christoper Lee is brilliant as Lord Summerisle. Have never seen the re-make with Nicholas Cage - read some of the reviews and I recall that it was slated. Britt Ecklands tits too. Yeehaa!
April 8, 201610 yr Saw Michael Caine's film Youth the other day - a pile of pretentious crap! Not the worst I've seen but pretty self-indulgent with lots of nonsense in it including Paloma Faith playing herself in a WTF moment and Adolf Hitler bizarrely making a cameo appearance that I for one didn't understand.
