Former Chelsea and England centre forward Kerry Dixon knocked a drinker off a bar stool and punched and kicked him on the ground, a court has heard.

Luton Crown Court was shown footage of the attack at The Nags Head in Dunstable last May after the man allegedly called Mr Dixon a "fatso".

Mr Dixon, 53, who lives in the town, denies causing actual bodily harm.

The court was told Mr Dixon will be claiming he struck out in a "pre-emptive strike" in self defence.

The attack by the former footballer, who also played for Luton Town, Southampton and Reading, was captured on the pub's CCTV at 12:40 BST on 15 May 2014.

In the footage, Mr Dixon is seen punching 38-year-old father-of-two Ben Scoble in the face, sending him to the ground.

Former Chelsea forward Sir Demba Ba has signed for Didier Drogba's old club Shanghai Shenhua in a deal that was yesterday reported to be a "possible" record for the Chinese Super League.

I thought DD left them because they couldn't afford to pay the wages they'd promised him, now they're going to spend £11m on Ba and presumably pay him a handsome wage?

Why is Ba leaving Turkey anyway, hasn't he just had a blinder of a season out there?

Yes Ba scored 27 goals in 44 games so he did well in Turkey. Apart from the obvious financial incentives I don't think this is a good move for his career.

Nicolas Anelka named Mumbai City player-manager

Former Chelsea and Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka has been named player-manager of Mumbai City.

Anelka, 36, played for the Indian Super League side last season under ex-Manchester City manager Peter Reid.

"He impressed us all with his tactical knowledge and excellent motivational skills," said Mumbai City co-owner and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Anelka has filled a player-coach role before during a season spent at Chinese club at Shanghai Shenhua in 2012.

The Frenchman only managed two goals in seven league games in his first season at Mumbai but returns as the club's 'marquee' player, meaning he is eligible for a higher salary.
