I think we've seen the best of Dany Drinkwater and considering what we'd have to pay, what's the point if he doesn't improve our starting XI? Hmmm... Are we looking for a starting 11 player, though. A fourth midfielder is what is being looked at is it not. Berkley would want to play regularly, but he's too crap for that.
July 31, 20178 yr Would you be happy putting Dany Drinkwater out there in midfield against a top European side? It's just another reason to be terrified of an injury to any midfielder. Thread bare.
July 31, 20178 yr I don't think Drinkwater would be a bad squad player, certainly better than Steve Sidwell. Not really Chelsea quality though and no, I wouldn't be comfortable with him having to start against top European teams. Assane Diousse, not linked to this kid, but he looks like a good talent, just thinking of defensive minded midfielders.
July 31, 20178 yr Providing Drinkwater would be 4th choice and arrive at a decent price we can't go wrong. He will be Nate's replacement effectively and that's a huge, huge upgrade. Kante, Matic, Cesc and Nate vs Kante, Baka, Cesc and Drinkwater? clear winner there.

The unfortunate reality is, whoever our 4th choice CM is would unlikely look comfortable vs that type of opposition, if they did then they would be starting either with us or elsewhere.

True, at 27 though he isn't going to develop and reach that level needed against top opposition. But certainly as 4th choice cover, I see him as a decent signing, depending on the fee.
August 1, 20178 yr To be fair do we expect to have someone as good as Kante as a fourth choice midfielder? Maybe if we are real madrid, otherwise not. We need a warrior as a back up, someone who can play if Kante or baka is out. If that is drinkwater so be it, home grown is a big bonus.
August 1, 20178 yr CM we are taking 4th back up ok I agree needed because cesc isn't really a back up he is a luxuary player not a week in week out midfield staple, but ffs we need wing backs they are key to this system, I like alonso but he is too slow and VM is just not good enough for a top side, credit to him for last season but he is a weak link.
August 1, 20178 yr Having brought myself round to the idea of liking the signing. i'm now thinking would Leicester sell? Their owners are not short of cash and I think he signed a new deal at the start of last season so they're in a strong position. Look like losing Mahrez too so they might see that as their one "okay you can go" of the summer.
August 1, 20178 yr Not wildly opposed to drinkwater he is a ronseal man, does what it says on the tin, passes well can defend, I'd have him in a 2 man pivot over cesc against a good team any day. Would rather take sanches on loan though has a lot to offer, perfect player for a counter attacking team with his quick turn on the ball.

He's a first team player for Leicester. Why would he want to leave and be third choice at Chelsea? Also, he's a mid-table player who has hit his ceiling. I would prefer an upcoming younger player who has a point to prove and is willing to rotate.

August 1, 20178 yr FFS! Just get in some players. Idgaf who it is at this point-Ox, Barkley, Drinkwater etc.Anybody will do. How can we go into a season with such a small squad and players in crucial positions who are question marks as to how they will perform in the league especially after winning the title? Looks like Hazard will have to play out of his skin. I'm hoping Pedro will be a force this season though. Mess.

Begovic - Cabellero (downgrade but not really an issue) Terry - Christensen (upgrade as a player, massive downgrade as a character for the squad) Zouma - Rudiger (upgrade) Ake - JCS (downgrade but 6 top class CBs is too many) Aina - Tomori (no real difference) Matic - Bakayoko (downgrade, potential upgrade) Chalobah - Pasalic (upgrade) RLC - Baker/Boga (upgrade) Costa - Morata (downgrade, potential upgrade) Solanke - Remy (Upgrade) Depthwise we are probably slightly stronger than last year, yes we should probably improve Kenedy, Pasalic and Remy (who I always seem to forget about) but what we have sold we already have replacements for. Personally for LWB I would like us to go for Shaw, Davies or I suppose Telles. For CM I would like to go for Goretzka, Dendoncker, Milinkovic-Savic or Rabiot. And for ST I would go for Milik, Llorente or Dembele, I also would like a cheeky bid for Iheanacho.

He's certainly not at Matics level who we just got rid of and we required an upgrade on that. We currently have 2 fit central midfielders with our new signing missing a full pre season. We require a better standard of player than Drinkwater IMO. We are trying to build on last season and compete in the CL, players like Drinkwater are not the direction I want us going in. Nothing to do with him being English and playing for Leicester I disagree, you can say what you want but people would be much more excited if Drinkwater was a foreign player playing abroad. As I mentioned, he has some very good attributes an not to mention he has previously formed a great partnership with our best midfielder and won the league alongside him. Also, Bakayoko is the Matic replacement, if we were to sign Drinkwater we would have Bakayoko, Kante, Fabregas and Drinkwater, for me that's a strong midfield considering we only play 2 of them at a time, I don't know what sort of standard you are expecting for essentially a 4th choice CM but Drinkwater is more than good enough for that spot.
August 1, 20178 yr 9 hours ago, Chelsbear said: Drinkwater? Deary me let hope this is rubbish. We really are looking daft if we sold magic and brought this guy in Agreed, if we had magic to sell, we really should have just cast a spell for European & domestic dominance
August 1, 20178 yr It will be interesting to see Leicester's response with Mahrez departing to Roma, they might well say bxxxer off unless you're offering £50m.
August 1, 20178 yr Yeah the "funny" thing is that i think it's unlikely we'll be able to buy Danny Drinkwater even. We have left it so late now and Leicester won't really have time to find a good replacement for him themselves.
