For many of us chels spurs are the natural target for our hatred and vitriol which is fully understandable However, for me, it's West Ham . Having witnessed them "taking" our beloved shed on several occasions in the late 70s and on one of these times seriously damaging my beige Harrington! What's the definition of taking an end ? Is it getting in by 1.30 and being surrounded by o.b. Or is it clearing an end at 3pm. West Ham were very good at the former! As a young lad returning home from s.b. Could prove a traumatic experience, espescially after night games. On one occasion,at Mile End station I was waiting for an east bound central line train when I was confronted by three pikies , one in a donkey jacket and claret and blue bobble hat. Chelsea c...t he hissed and I found myself being batterd against a chocolate machine . Luckily I was saved by a couple of l.u. Workers ,no serious injury . My brave attackers had spotted my programme in my jacket pocket . The age of these tasty geezers  ? Mid 20s . Me 15.  I had my revenge a few years later........

Yes i was in the shed when they came in   the day after we took Arsenals North bank one Christmas in the late 70 's. Our mob were still in the pubs as West Ham  came in  very early. We scattered as we were just ordinary fans and not fighters.  Not sure that really constitutes taking our end as there was no one there to oppose them and there were nit nany people in the shed at the time

West Ham were always sneaky and snidey blade merchants.  Living in Essex I knew a lot of their more normal fans but their mob were dirty. Worst for me with them was when they were at QPR and attacked us on a train after, they had numbers and surprise and I got hit a lot when I was down which was OTT then I got something hard over my back that had me in pain for weeks.  I was later told it was Gardner and his mob yet online all you hear about is how fair he was. Load of crap.

When their Mile End firm were at their peak, est 71-74, most of those guys were all in their 20's, whereas the majority of guys in The Shed were at that time anything from 13-20, with a few exceptions.
1972-73 West Ham got in the shed in dribs & drabs, and kept quiet till around 2.30pm when out came the scarves and they announced they were there. Amazing thing was, most of us sensed they were amongst us, but no-one seemed to know who & where?. Remember one of those games when D.H & company stood at the top of the Shed stairs watching who were coming in, yet they were still in there. Possibly came in the Bovril entrance?.
Think it was 73 when it all kicked off after the 'U-ni-ted' chant went up, big coloured West Ham guy in a leather coat went to pull something out of his pocket.
A circular gap formed as we all thought he had a blade, but looked like a metal comb. Anyway he dropped it, and as he bent down to retrieve it, about a dozen Dr. Martens thudded into him, like something from the old 'Tiller Girls' TV routine!.
As I've mentioned a couple of times on here on other posts, I was in their South Bank in 71, when a mob of 100 plus CFC ( word had it from Stockwell) steamed into their North Bank from the side. Only lasted a couple of mins, but watching it unravel as you could see this close knit crew make their way across the terraces, is something I can still visualise to this day!.
Always wondered if that crew was a 'one off' or had they all been together in the next couple of seasons, when West Ham came to the 'Bridge', whether they'd have done what they did?.

That was The North Stand in the North Bank, and we got a result, mainly because most of the Mile End were in the South Bank having a go at the Shed. We went back in again in 1972 & 73 but got hammered as the Mile End were waiting for us, and there was never more than 40/50 of us.

I think 79 although memory has faded a bit, Quadraphenia had just come out on film anyway. It was a blinding hot day. Cant remember where they came on that was a blur, I was reading a programme minding my own business and next thing I was protecting my head.

Looks like 24/9/78 it's the only fixture away to qpr where it could've been warm all others are winter games or night games. Spammers were home to Everton that day as well so would fit your memory. Hope this helps

Miss the old days when they use to paint the penalty areas and centre circles Brown!!!!  For you youngsters, Two tone coloured pitches were all the rage in the 60's 70's and 80's, fashions change I suppose? Who needs 3g pitches!!!!

Decent away support in the North Stand, looks like they're singing " you'll never walk alone".

Is it against Man U, possibly Bobby Charlton's last game.

Funny how years ago many clubs would sing " you'll never walk alone " even the shed, now its only dippers and Celtic sing it, and when Celtic sing it, its much more impressive! I bet that grates on the dippers, its not their fault though!

The silk scarves in that book are mine, got a free copy and a mention in the back, well worth buying if only for the nostalgia.

Got a silk scarf for my first game Liverpool fa cup 1978. Looked the business at the time, funny after a while it looked more like wrapping for Cadbury as it went purple!!

I'm sure Vialli was all set to join Glasgow Rangers before we stepped in at the last minute to sign him in the summer of 1996.

Indeed. Rangers were close to signing him before we hijacked the deal. I found an article published in 1996 from The Independent that demonstrates this.
