After matches you could get out onto the grassy area behind the west stand as away fans exited down the slope and there was a decent drop down a concrete wall so you had a high advantage point , it got interesting one year when Man U were contained on the slope while blues fans outside were trying to smash down those old big blue gates. So when we had the first couple of pens in the north stand we would use the same set of turnstiles?

Away fans had to run the gauntlet, usually there was a big police presence but it wasn't unknown for some visitors to leg it back over the turnstiles, not even getting to the top of the slope, Swansea springs to mind. Also before thre was a food bar right over the far side and before proper segregation they had to come back to the slope to get a burger.
March 3, 20179 yr Seen the footage on YouTube and remember seeing it on the news that night. Was only 12 and this was my third season going. Did we have the whole end and were we allocated any seats that day?

As a kid queuing like this was quite exciting/ scary but part of the day. Also had to learn about the horses. Even though they were there for crowd control if they wanted to p*^s or s**t, it caused huge surges to get out the way!! Nothing like nice neat queues these days.
