tremberz90 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Now that RVP has said that he's not signing a new deal at Arsenal, would you have him at Chelsea? Would he fit in our team? Him over Torres, or play out wide? Share your thoughts
Frank_Lampard8 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I don't think that he'd fit in, and plus I don't think that we need him. He will go to Man City any way.
Davey Baby Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 He wouldn't come to Chelsea in a million years. Would I take him over Torres? There's a long answer and a short answer. The short answer is yes. The long answer is of course I bloody would !
Valerie Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I refuse to even consider this. Little prick. Van Persie, not you tremberz
PloKoon13 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I get the impression that he would immediately get injured if we signed him, but then I thought the same about Torres...
Uno Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I hate the guy but you can't deny he is a good player. Not sure if I could ever accept him in Chelsea blue tho
Andreas Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Not in a million years would he even consider coming to us, City is where he will go. Ibra wants out of Milan it seems, should take a chance with him ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtJw2VtQ_gM Edited July 4, 2012 by Andreas
bluedave Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I think he's got his eye on a big money contract at City so can't see him joining us, but 37 goals in 48 games last season, we could do a lot worse.
Remodez Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Obviously a quality player but his injury record won't justify the huge transfer fee Arsenal will most likely want. Not to mention that he's actually not that clinical, unbelieveable the amount of chances that was made for him last season. If Torres had that many chances made for him I would fully expect he would have got a similar goal tally to RVP. Edit: I think he may go to Juventus though, they are keen to sign him. Ozztheboss Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Van Persie's form last year was incredible. However, I think he's on a down, and I can see the Euro's 2012 as the start of that.
mad_mac Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 To be fair he had a great season at Arsenal this past campaign, but he has failed to do this consistantly. I think he knows he can make a big money move to somewhere like Man City and he'll be all over that. Ibrahimovic at Chelsea would be an interesting move, but not sure how he'd fit into the dressing room...
dkw Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I think we should put a £5m bid in just to piss Wenger and his acolytes right off. Then if RVP gets all giddy at the though of joining a club that wins things just say "Nah, just kidding you chocolate legged gimp"
ronin Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Let's put a bid in anyway, I think I'm in the minority but I would like him at the club...
SirWadzman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I can see Van Persie going down from here personally, would be a risk to bring him here.
Davey Baby Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Not to mention that he's actually not that clinical, unbelieveable the amount of chances that was made for him last season. If Torres had that many chances made for him I would fully expect he would have got a similar goal tally to RVP. I'm afraid it's not RVP that's wide of the mark, it's you. No disrespect but you have got it totally wrong. Last season, it all came together for RVP, as it had threatened to do so many times before, but, as you say, injuries and wotnot hindered him. We will never see it come together in such a way for Torres, sadly. Those days are gone, where the man is at his absolute peak. To say those chances were put on a plate for him is absurd. Completely and utterly absurd. He makes those chances possible by losing his marker, via his movement, his cleverness and his sixth sense. He was confident whereas Torres wasn't. Torres himself admitted this after the season, saying he was scared to miss a chance, therefore didn't go looking for them. This was perfectly apparent to anyone who was watching him, unless you had your love goggles on as you appeared to do. Torres didn't go sniffing around for goals and he very rarely drove into the box. Strikers make crosses look good, by moving, by taking a chance, by wrongfooting the defender. As an example, watch Drogba's two goals at home in the CL in the knockout stages, against Napoli and Barca. Both times Ramires delivers the cross. You wouldn't even be talking about those crosses were it not for Drogba. He gives the guy something to aim at and he finds space in the box. That space doesn't appear by magic, he either darts in front of the defender or he checks back, either way it is his own doing, and he finishes expertly. From the horse's mouth. I'm surprised some of you need this pointed out. I'm afraid only the most deluded Chelsea Torres fan could say Torres would have got the same amount of goals as RVP last term if he had that many chances created. You need to ask yourself how they got created. You need to watch his goals. RVP was incredible last term and Torres was poor overall, that cannot be in doubt. Arsenal's players were helped by RVP's presence, he was their best player, they weren't doing all the work for him. In terms of Torres getting on the scoresheet, I'm afraid he wasn't helping himself. Watch the goals ..
Davey Baby Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Amazing how many times the ball drops to him despite the penalty box being as crowded as Oxford Street in the sales. That's not an accident. Theo Walcott is hardly Lionel Messi.
mclovin83 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 His pedigree is not in question. Best striker in the Premiership last season without a shadow of a doubt. Still don't want him here though, always hated him with a passion and just can't see him wearing Chelsea blue however good he is. No thanks....
mclovin83 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Ps- I have made up my mind that it's make or break for Torres next seaoson. I think we have to give him next seaosn as the main man. If we sign Van Persie then that idea is over... But I agree he will end up at City anyway....
Englishman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Obviously a top quality player, but a risk because of his injury proneness. He's been at Arsenal for 8 years and he's played in less than half their games over that period. Last season was the first time he managed more than 30 league appearances. I actually think Arsenal have made the right decision to get rid. It's unlikely he'd join us anyway, but it nearly always goes t*ts up whenever we sign an established superstar striker. I'd much rather we unearthed another Cisse than spent £30-40m on someone who's probably peaked.
Spiller86 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 We'd have to consider it. But realistically id prefer to feed on what City have to let go of to buy him. Tevez perhaps.
Damo810 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Nope. Good as he is, he is too prone to injury, and is past his peak, he's on the downhill from here. We don't want another Essien on our hands, earning shedloads and doing nothing while out injured. Theres better options out there, for less, and younger. Also, anyone remember that guy Sturridge?
Remodez Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I'm afraid only the most deluded Chelsea Torres fan could say Torres would have got the same amount of goals as RVP last term if he had that many chances created. You are either greatly underestimating the team or vastly overrating RVP's movement, I can't quite tell. I know how quite a lot of his goals came by, from clever passes from the midfielders like Song. I'm not saying they did all the work for him, it's obviously a two way street but from what you seem to be suggesting you think it was mainly down to RVP which is wasn't.I'm fully aware he also created as well, made his own goals at times and I know all about his movement but I wasn't really talking about that. My main point was if he was as clinical as people say he would quite easily have doubled his goals tally last season but he didn't and he's not. Obviously 37 goals is still damn good so people don't mention it. Not a Torres fan boy at all, it's the OP that mentioned Torres. I didn't say same either because quite a few of the goals he scored were made by himself, I said similar amount of goals which is around 20 - 30 goals. Any good striker would have got that much last season playing for Arsenal just from the chances made the team made alone.
icecoolguy22 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Don't need him and don't wat him. When did this thread turn into a Torres debate again?
