Our Youth on Loan

Thorgan was an unused substitute for the game unfortunately.

But it was quite a crazy match nonetheless. Villareal's Nigerian forward Uche came off the bench and scored on his first touch but got injured on the play as he crashed into Gladbach's keeper to get the touch. Villareal's physios came on the field to give Uche attention, he was stretchered off and then substituted. So he scored with his only touch of the game, quite incredible.

Even crazier though was that a few minutes later, Granit Xhaka found a mobile on the field and handed it to the ref. He handed it to the fourth official and everyone thought it was a missile thrown from the crowd but then one of the Villareal physios told the fourth official it was his phone and that it must have fallen on the field when he ran on to help Uche. The fourth official wasn't interested and refused to give the phone back until a few minutes later when the physio typed in his lock code and it unlocked the phone. Haha incredible.

I am amazed that it wasn't stepped on and the whole game has been played in monsoon-like conditions yet it didn't look like there was any rain damage either to his mobile. Hilarious stuff for a football match

He seems to be doing well, and settled where he is at. Unfortunately, I think his future lies away from Chelsea.

Hes been quite poor when Ive seen him. Yes he scored a great free kick, outside of that he hasnt done much. Dont think he has what it takes to make it here

Another one to add to the list.............!!!

Yeah he really seems to blow hot and cold.  I've seen him put in MOTM performances, followed by long periods of ineffectiveness.

Unfortunately I think you are right.  He'll not see any playing time at Chelsea.

Kalas hasn't played a single minute out on loan. Great decision.

I noticed that the other day. Surely Chelsea must seek some sort of guarantee from the new club about playing time otherwise there's no point. This is just impossible to understand or simply a terrible decision.

I doubt many clubs would go for a deal where a youngster has to play in their team. How ever you would hope that Chelsea would be smart enough to bring him back in January and find a better club for him.

Still, not a single minute. You'd hope Chelsea would at least get reassurances, if not a guarantee.

Eddie Newton's role this season is to look after all the players out on loan, he speak to the clubs before the lads go out to ensure they really want the player (and need them), he looks at training methods and footballing philosophy.  He then keeps in touch with the players, coaches and managers of the clubs they go to.  It's innevitable that some will get to their temporary home and not settle - not do enough in training to warrant getting game time, also other playes will suddenly step up to the plate to push our lads down the pecking order.

Also lets not forget that a manager will not pick a loan player over a player the club own. A loan player isnt going to be with your for the long term so why invest all the time and effort in him.

Im not saying that all loan players dont get played but I think bigger clubs will bring in loan players to fill out the squad a little bit. It seems like Kalas is just there as a back up.

If we can we need to recall him and then look for another option. It was the same last year with (i cant remember the kids name now) at Inter. It was a waste of time sending him on loan there.

I understand that, I just think it's a bit poor from the club to send Kalas to a team who don't deem him good enough to even make the matchday squad for over half the league matches so far.

Maybe the blame lays at Kalas' feet. He clearly isnt making any impression there.

We have just done a deal with a club in Turkey so maybe a few of our youngsters will start going over there.

Anyone know how well Traore and Thorgan Hazard are getting on?

You can always goto TheChels.org - Chelsea Youth (Juni is the author I do believe) does an article once a week. Here is the latest one

I know Hazard scored a fantastic goal in the Europa League qualifiers. I've seen some of their group matches in the Europa League and Hazard didn't feature in those. Gladbach are in second in the Bundesliga right now and pushing Bayern so I'm not sure if he has had many more opportunities.

As for Kalas, I read an article about that recently. It was saying that Koln have only conceded 5 or 6 goals, I believe, and statistically had one of the best if not the best defense in the Bundesliga so I'm sure that's not helping him get into the squad.

You could well be right. I guess I'm just disappointed, but to be honest, despite everyone saying how good he was after the Liverpool game I don't think he'll make it here. I think Zouma and Christensen are better prospects and we'll probably buy other young defenders or one in his peak as well.

After being in and around the first team last season, to me it was clear when we loaned him out this season that he wont make it here. I think he was sent on loan with a view to sell.

Wallace was the player at Inter.

Thats right it was Wallace. I remembered later on in the day. He looked so good in pre season but just wasted a whole year on loan at Inter. Now he has gone to our feeder club in Holland where we actually wanted him to go in the first place.
