I think he's done, finished. He will never come close to being the player he was at Liverpool, and the sooner we Roman realises this the better.

Someone posted earlier about strikers leading our rivals. The only ones I'd take over torres right now are van persie obviously messi ,falcao and possibly aguero. None of the others are doing any better or any worse than torres.

People said last year a striker should be judged on the goals they score! They said torres wouldn't score goals in the big games. Well so far this season he has done so why people are convinced he is "finished" is beyond me.

Just because Torres has turned out the way he has i hope it doesn't put Roman off big money signings in the future, like Falcao for example. Roman needs to understand that the signings of Shevchenko and Torres were stupid on his part and the next time he decides that Chelsea need a striker he needs to look more closely at what he is bringing in. I think this is why he didn't go in for Aguero, he was still scared of making another cock up like he did with Shevchenko. And with Torres being like he is now i can see the same kind of thing happening with Falcao, i think Roman will be too worried about signing another flop and we will end up missing out. I hope i am wrong but i can easily see this happening.

17 goals in 30 odd games is not a terrible record is it?

He is far better than he was when he first came, I doubt he will get much better but at least he is scoring some goals now.

You must have low expectations then because i would take more strikers than that over Torres right now. I agree that Torres is not finished, far from it, but there is no way he is good enough anymore to be leading the line for a team looking to win the league.

True it is a decent record looking at it, but we are getting goals from him in patches, it's nowhere near consistent enough to be considered good enough.

Best option we have just now since the club bowed to his needs and left us short in attack. It could be far worse though, we could have had him in his early form.

Yeah it's a good record, but it's wrong, he's scored 17 goals since he arrived with us, that's 17 goals in 82 appearances.

He's also got 13 bookings (2 red).

82 Appearances - 17 goals - 11 yellows - 2 reds

At least he's managed to avoid injury in his near 2 years at Chelsea. He couldn't go two months at Liverpool without pulling his hamstring.

That'll be because he now can't run at a pace sufficent enough to do any damage to his hamstring.

Thought we could compare.....

Torres:

82 Appearances (58 starts) - 17 goals - 11 yellows - 2 reds

Sturridge:

91 Appearances (48 starts) - 24 goals - 3 yellows - 0 reds

Even the stats suggest we should give Sturridge more time.

How many assists have they both got?

How many assists have they both got?

Not sure, researching now..........

Looks like neither of them have any assists, can't believe that ?

It just looked weird. The ball zinged out and Torres did this little jump thing but the ball didn't look like it went near his foot. I'm going to have to look at it again, i had had a glass of wine.

Does it really matter how weird it was..the mere fact that he put himself in front of the keeper and caused the error was good work and he should be credited for it.....Really who cares? He scored..

Because it was Torres and he scored people (his own bloody fans) have to find things to be negative about rather than just be happy he's scoring goals.Pathetic from some on here.

I make it 15 for Torres and 6 for Sturridge, although I beleive it can vary quite dramatically dpeending on the souce depending on what they consider to constitute an assist.

Not sure if Essien can play that role to the level he could 4/5 years ago and certainly not to the level Maka did.

I think if anyone comes in during Jan it would be a striker.

We can cope with Rambo, Lamps, Mikel and Romeu...just.

However as the above comment is there a player out there who can play that role to a level we need?

M'villa (crap attitude it seems)

Fellaini (Seems better attacking)

Not really sure who we could bring in?

Its difficult.

Romeu seems to have had that heart ripped out since AVB left.

Lamps just will never fit that role.

Rambo puts himself about but is not that immovable object.

Mikel has too many defensive liabilities in and around the area, and occasional brainfarts further up the pitch too. He has the skills just not the speed of thought or footballing brain.

I think Oscar would fit into DM role very well but it would also be a waste.
