It is time for a change and for Torres to move on, as much for his own sake as ours because I think he needs a change of club and league.

torres may need to move on, but definitely not before summer. as i see it, we only have 1 striker, and he is not doing it for us. this poor mans version of torres is still twice the player sturridge is. if we bring in falcao, we still need to keep torres, or recall lukaku.

Im so sick of people making excuses for him. Close doesnt mean sh*t. He isnt a threat anymore. His goal last game was all luck and he isnt putting balls in the back of the net. Its that simple.

So there will be no excuse for Mata trying to hit a bird flying over the stand either then? Torres was better than Hazard, Mata, and Oscar. Still not great but better than you lot give him credit for.

Chippy and bjd have it spot on as far as I am concerned. Torres was no better or worse than a lot of players today and should shoulder equal blame as any of the rest of them for the poor result.

Of course there isn't an entre thread dedicated to the other players so when this one gets posted in after a disappointing result it does tend to look like people are just blaming Torres. However the match thread shows comments about other players as well. The fact that there is a Torres thread is really just symptomatic of the fact that he has been consistently disappointing for far too long.

Nailed.

Look at Utd. Rooney, RVP and Hernandez. You know they will stand up and be counted every time.

City. Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli , even Dzeko. You know they will stand up and be counted every time.

You simply can't say the same about Torres. I don't care that he puts in a shift anymore. I want him to regularly scare the sh*t out of defenders and regularly score goals.

I guess what's also the difference between us and Utd/City is options. Of course we can't blame that on Torres but if we are to mount any sustained challenge this year then we need another striker/option.

All those players you stated have at different times this season been outstanding for us and have single handedly won us games. Torres, not once.

I'd agree they were all so-so today but we can't expect these players to play out of this world week in week out.

As far as I'm concerned Torres perhaps playing a 6 out of 10 game whilst these guys play a 5 out of 10 is no case for a defence.

Quite the opposite in actual fact.

I'd love to see the stats as too the chances those players you've named get given inside the penalty box, because Torres simply doesn't get it, there's a reason Sturridge looks crap when he plays up front aswell. We don't create as many clear cut chances for our strikers as these other teams, I don' particularly blame the other players, I don't know what it is, but watch that game back, when does Torres get a clear cut chance? He doesn't. However Mata does and he balloons it.

Already replied to your other comment but, 6 out of 10 is harsh in my opinion, as for the other 3 a 5 is generous.

Torres plays like a supporting striker when we need a main man to come to the fold. His performance today wasnt too bad , with a little luck he may have gotten a brace for himself. His problem though lies in the movement across his marker in the box, he simply doesnt make these runs. Defenders feel comfortable with him. Danny doesnt inspire confidence as the main man , his wide role ghosting in at the far post is probably his best position even though he sees himself more centrally.

This weekend has cruelly exposed the folly we have left ourselves in, whilst we are firing duds but playing the best football, our competitors had options to bring off the bench and secure the three points even though they havent played at their best. We are in transition and Champions league qualification is our most important objective this year, its important we get the choice right and go for the best available at the money we can afford if this team is to achieve what the potential suggests it can. Strikers win games we need one!

a lot of it is down to his movement off the ball. i think he desperately wants to be one of the crucial members of this team, so much that he gets himself too involved in playmaking. i think its come to the point he would actually do well with a poacher playing in front of him

Our best player today IMO.

Lets not go down the supply route again eh? It's such a tired argument. If he got himself in as many goal scoring positions as those players he maybe, just maybe might score more goals.

But he doesn't and , er doesn't.

Sturridge is a tough call, I'm far from convinced by him but you can't judge a player on 10 min cameo every week. I think he deserves a run, over the course of 3 starts in a row I'd fancy him to worry defenders more than Torres does and get himself in better positions than Torres does.

He played well, had fire in his belly. Happy he didn't score for obvious reasons.

But bjd its just a lack of confidence at the moment. Torres does run around a lot but the other players aren't playing for him.............

At the end of the day BJD, the way we play doesn't present as many chances for the strikers as the two Manchester clubs, the way we play creates more chances for the 3 in behind the striker than the striker himself.

for all who are going to abuse Torres for not scoring again, Sturridge was & has been much worse when playing this season, he's got a terrible 1st touch. I'm no Torres fan & think we need a new addition (or 2) in jan, but he's the best option we have out of the 2.

Personally I would try Moses there.

How do you expect his touch to be good if he's not getting chances and torres is guaranteed a start no matter of form?

Im not bashing torres at all, he came close a few times today, but he's not a man we can rely on like say Utd can with RVP/Rooney. We do need a striker, who that be is up to the club, not sure we need Falcao or another 50M stiker, as much as I'd love to see them in our team. A name that came up yesterday was Nikica Jelavic from Everton16 goals in 23(4). Thats a tally that would compare to many, and he'd get his chances in the Chelsea team as well. Discuss.

This is getting beyond ridiculous.

He needs to feel like the main man. Ship out Drogba, Lukaku and keep Sturridge on the bench.

The people playing behind him play slow football and wont pass. Enter Hazard, Mata, Oscar.

Now we should drop some one from the team so Torres can play with a poacher?

This isn't Torres FC ffs.

Poor result, let's all bash Nando.

Only on this bloody site.

Not what he was saying...

Many times it feels as if we started the game with 10 players..

I did write out a response on why you're wrong, but I decided to delete it because you're a f**kwit and don't deserve an explanation as to why you're a f**kwit.

I actually thought he played well today, looked well up for it as he often is, and was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get a goal
