I've got hugre reservations about Torres and agree with many on here who feel we'll never consistently see him regain the sort of form I think the rest of the team deserves from their no 1 striker but willing him to fail?

I would imagine everyone thats ever posted on here about him would love him to succeed and better still if he suddenly lit up the Bridge tomorrow night.

What makes me laugh is the fact people are talking about torres being the only reason we won't win the league. Correct me if I'm wrong but our problem this season hasn't been getting goals it has been stopping them at the other end! We could score 3 goals a game and lose 4-3 yet people will still only be concerned that torres didn't score!

Fact is he is our main striker until january at least so anyone thinking sturridge is going to suddenly start leading our line and torres being relegated to the bench is either stupid or deluded. He hasn't scored in 4 games so yes he is a concern at the minute but it isn't the disaster people are making it out to be. Let's look forward to them game tommorrow and hopefully nando getting a goal or 2 to shut a few people up until the next game he dosn't score!

Its not that we think that is going to happen...., its that some of us would like to see Danny given a run of games to see what he can do in his prefered position,

I don't believe there is a Chelsea fan anywhere willing him to fail. He is our main striker, his purpose is to score goals, many of them, and important ones, to get this club to trophies. Why on earth would we will him to fail?

There's no point in us all arguing amongst each other about whether Torres is rubbish or he isn't, the fact is we've got him and we all need to make sure we stay behind him for as long as he wears the shirt.

Unfortunately their are plenty of people on this website who are willing him to fail, they can deny it all they want, however the moment Torres has a bad game they are on here within seconds of the final whistle to slag him off!

The failings of the whole team are put on his shoulders!

lmao, so you know these people do you? you know that they secretly want Torres to fail even though they say on here that they want him to do well but just dont see it happening. In your eyes thats them really saying I really want Torres to flop and make the club a joke for wasting 50 million.

Wow just wow! I think you may need help my friend.

This to an extent is true.

Against Swansea as soon as the game was over people were posting it was his fault and criticizing him for our draw yet other players who were equally as poor don’t get a bad word said about them….

If you try and defend it then you are a Torres lover who is deluded and have your head in the sand which for many is not the case as we all know he is not nearly what we expected when we brought him in. Each game he fails to score he is going to get questions raised about his form and future at the club but on here it is at times way over board.

I don’t have a big problem with him as he clearly tries his heart out on the pitch but for various reasons it’s not working, I feel Danny is not the answer either as he is never going to be a prolific goalscorer as he does not have the end product such strikers need. (Walcott mark II).

Is Torres suddenly going to come back to his form 3 or 4 years ago? Nope…Yet there are plenty out there still waiting for such a miracle to happen. We need a top in form striker and either in Jan (if we are serious about the title) or in the summer I expect it to arrive.

I won’t bash a player for trying regardless of how much the club choose to spend on them.

Studge scored 16 goals from the wing last season. imo he is the best striker we have at the club right now. How ever its easier to keep Studge on the bench than drop a 50 million pound Torres. Im not sure we can blame Robbie totally for that, maybe the board are putting preasure on him to play Torres we dont know.

His link up with the better players is not up there with Torres though and Robbie might feel there is no point trying to mess with a system that has seen us score plenty of goals.

He does need games to get that and maybe at the CWC he could get that chance but it's looking very likely he will be gone by Jan if we get an offer otherwise he is going to sign with another club because he will never be our main ST as is his want.

It is a shame really, i truely think that he will be one of Englands best strikers given the chance and im sure a Spurs or even Arsenal would give him that chance and he will make us pay!

I see him going to Liverpool tbh, and I think he will thrive playing up top every week.

The thing is even if Torres is playing terrible then we will need to bring in another striker in regardless because 1 inform striker is not enough and that will be in Danny’s head. Chelsea will always be looking to bring in the next big thing (Falcao is the popular name doing the rounds these days) so he will no doubt be looking elsewhere especially after coming close to leaving in the summer.

In saying that we may keep him till the summer when he can leave on a free if we do not bring in anyone in during the window.

He has the talent but in his position we need the finished article and both he and Torres do not fit that description.

I think Danny has the skills to make Chelsea not look for a replacement, yes we will need backups but not a replacement. I really do think given a run or 10 games he would show people that he can be our front man.

Do you see it happening though with CL and EPL games coming thick and fast?

I can’t especially since he has stalled on a deal and can walk for nothing, I mean if we give him the platform he can easily sign with someone else and we look like mugs as he knows at Chelsea (like last season) when he played well he lost his place when boys like Hazard, Oscar even Moses have came in.

On the other hand giving him games could sway his mind and make him commit to the club and lead to a starting roll in the team however I get the impression we want a superstar striker and if it’s not to be Torres then you wouldn’t be surprised to see Roman spending on another no 9.

I'd give studge a chance but Robbie will be thinking of his own job and if it failed he would take serious heat for it I'd imagine..

It's a tough one.

I think we all know the people who can't wait for him to have a bad game so they can be a keyboard warrior!

Do I place you in that category, yes!

I'm confused here, just noticed Yorkley liking a post I'm having trouble agreeing with and wondering what I've been missing?

I have seen some posts on here from people I have a lot of respect for having doubts about Fernando (as have I) but as long as I've been on the site, I wouldn't for a minute imagine these posters would either will or be happy in any way at a Chelsea players failure, more so at a failure that has cost the Club a record fee and I'm pretty sure I can speak for them when I say they all would love him to succeed.

There may have been some newer posters that are either wind up merchants or just young kids that like to be able to say "I told you so" but most surely must be happy every time any player they have had doubts about proves them wrong...I know I am.

Respecting Yorkleys view as I do I must have either missed the posts by members who have less than the Clubs and Torres best interest at heart or

maybe I have conditioned myself to gloss over a lot of posts unless I recognise it as a post from someone whos opinions I usually am interested in.

Anyway doubt Fernandos showing he is good enough to be nailed on first choice striker here though I do, good luck to him and I hope he grabs a bagfull tonight and gos on to finish the season so strong that this thread is deleted to save mine and many others embarresment.

I'm sure any true Chelsea fan on here echos my views . :JC_doubleup:

no chelsea fan wants torres to fail. idiotic comment that. fact is he is detrimental is our team and ambitions. we'd all love the club to not spend a penny and have world beaters, or if bossy, kalou and malouda turned into messis, but we're not in lalaland here where anything goes

players who arent good enough get moved on and better ones who can do the job get brought in. thats it

To be fair to Bossy Kalou and Malouda, we won a lot of silverware with their contributions and although not the best in their positions they all put in some good performances and are part of the clubs history in some of its best years, that can also be said of Torres who helped us to a couple of little Baubles last year and deserves a bit of respect no matter how you feel about his abilities.

The main thing with Torres is we all know he has been a very very good player and at his age it is hard to think he can't rediscover a fair bit of that in what is a better team, he has had plenty of time to show more than he has but still nobody can be sure exactly what he can still offer.

i know what they did in the past, but they were all moved on for a reason

i know what they did in the past, but they were all moved on for a reason

Maloudas still here and they were moved on partly because the whole shape of the team and the style of play is changing, not defending Torres completely as I have my own doubts but Torres was brought in as part of that change and its very difficult from the ammount we see of him to be sure that he can't become an important part, thats why my main gripe is that I want to see him having to fight for his place instead of being nailed on and I am not saying he should be moved on...thats for someone that sees a lot more of him and maybe nderstands whats going on in his head.

I don't think anybody really WANTS Torres to fail. If you're a Chelsea fan, you want the team to win. Period. And for those of us who like Torres, if he scores in the process, all the better. But at the end of the day, if we play well and win, then it really doesn't matter who scored.

That being said, people naturally DO like to be right. And a lot of people like to tell you they were right. So while those people aren't actively rooting against Torres, I think they do enjoy being able to come back to the thread and say, "told you so."

On Sturridge......

I would love to see him succeed. He's young. He's talented. He's English. I'm an American, so I get no sense of national pride by him doing well. But the fact is that homegrown player rules do exist, so him being English does count for something.

But I have my doubts. His passing is often atrocious. He makes the wrong decision far more often than the right one, IMO. And he's selfish as all hell. I think he'd be good as part of a 2-man striking team. I actually think he and Torres could be very good together because they're opposites. Torres does all the little hustle stuff -- tracking back on D, trying to hold up play, linking up with teammates, etc. Sturridge doesn't, but his confidence and selfishness mean he's not afraid to pull the trigger, and Torres often is.

A lot of people on here seem to be losing or have lost faith in nando now, and I personally think this saga is nearly over. Id love him to come good, starting with tonight but i feel were going to need to boost our strikeforce regardless, as i doubt sturridge has a long term role with us, with rdm as manager. Who would people prefer as his replacement?

Falcao - most in form striker at the moment however he will cost over £40m.

Lewandowski - great link up player, and a quality finisher, not sure Dortmund will sell in January if they progress to knock out stages. £30m

Leander damaio - very much a poacher, excellent in the air and would hopefully settle in quickly with the amount of Brazilians. Would be a Bihar gamble for the £25m price tag.

Jovetic - technically excellent and would link up with our attacking midfielders well, more of a Rooney type striker, not prolific, but finishes well. Also able to play midfield. £20m.

Ok so maybe I put it in the wrong way as saying people want him to fail, but their are people on here who will blame Torres for any poor performance that the team puts in and he does shoulder the blame for all of the teams woes (perhaps thats because Mikel is playing well now).

Lets apportion blame in the right direction and in the right manner.

I don't understand. This is a thread made to do just that, single out Torres and talk about his performance. Same goes with the Mikel thread.

The blame (wouldn't go that far myself) is well and truly apportioned in the match thread and in threads of the other players who have their own.
