I hope this talk about doing a swap deal involving Varane and Courtois does not happen I like Varane but don't wanna lose Courtois

I think Courtois has been poor for quite a while now. The 2 Liverpool games in the League cup he was great but other than that i don't think he has been that good since before Christmas. When the season started he was catching everything, he was easily outmuscling players to get to the ball, now though he can't seem to take any players bumping into him.

He needs to sort himself out because the opposition will target him soon and he could cost us valuable points.

If his form doesn't improve i would have no problem if Cech was bought back in.

He made one error against City and dropped a few against Villa.

You're forgetting a few weeks ago, Cech flopped completely against Bradford.

We have two truly world class keepers.

I'm not sure where that talk has come from but I would actually consider something like that. Swap deals as often mentioned are highly unlikely though.

Can't see the logic in losing the second best keeper in world football when he's only 22. Think it's highly, highly unlikely.

I'd be more inclined to see if Carlo still fancied Ramires.

Yes that's better than losing Courtois, don't think we would find a goalkeeper of Courtois age that is as good as him

I wonder if teams will now target him more, as City and Villa had some success pressuring him. He has done well overall this season, though still food for thought after all that hyperbole about him never making mistakes or somesuch.

True, and I believe all GKs go through this phase in the EPL. De Gea was pretty useless with high crosses in his early days. I think he will be fine. 

Don't see Real Madrid being in for him. Real Madrid's ideal keeper would be De Gea (spanish) followed by Lloris (French). Plus don't see Jose wanting to do any favours for Real Madrid.

The criticism I saw of Courtois was that his shot-stopping wasn't as good as Cech's or that Cech had the ability to make match-winning saves that kept us in matches especially at 0-0. Oh and that Courtois lets in more goals (mainly because he plays against better teams).

 

 

Is there a reason for this thread to still be open? Is there actually anyone left who still thinks Cech should play if Thibaut maintains this form?

Brilliant from Cech tonight. Noticed as well he wasn't shying away from taking the plaudits at the end there in the post match interview, making sure we all take in that it s down to skill and judgement rather than just luck.

Now we have tied down Courtois for 5 years, let's give Cech a few games so he won't be forced to leave. Most of us feel Courtois is the better GK, but every time Cech plays in the league, more often than not he keeps a clean sheet.

We have two of the best keepers in the world. Let's leave it at that!

Absolutely world class save from Pete tonight. Glad he's there for us but think it was harsh if Courtois was dropped. Selection dilemma in the next one.

Interesting to watch how the votes on this thread changed over time. 

 

At first it was majority for keeping Cech #1

Then towards the end of last season and pre-season, it went massively in favour of Courtois.

Now the Cech votes are making a comeback.

I was always in Cech's side, but Tibo made an impact when he came back so I don't blame people, we've got the best goalkeepers, so is tough to pick one.

I have always been in favour of Cech. I don't care about the age difference, i still think Cech is a better keeper and i still think he should be our number 1. They are both great keepers though and we are lucky to have them.

The man is a shiny golden God.

José's reasoning for starting Cech instead of Courtois:

What a duo we have!! In the history of football this must be one of the best keeper-duo's there's ever been.

Great to see Petr in the post-match interview. He is everything good that is in this sport. Humble, kind, smart, fair...add any positive adjective.

Be interesting to see what happens now, with PSG and Wembley to come.

I suspect Courtois will come back in.

3 to equal it I think, 4 to take it. I don't see it being beat either once he has it. Maybe Heart but Chec's clean sheet ratio is ridiculously better then any other keeper ever in the prem
