I think it would have, given the circumstances. our options were either to keep him on the bench for a season and then see him go there for nothing, or to get whatever money we could have (and honour the promise jose made to him when he made courtois no.1). our hands were tied by the fact cech wanted to remain in london and had a year left on his contract. regarding sanchez I don't think we have much chance- the money he would want would then need to go to people like hazard, even with 18months left on his contract the fee would be very high AND we'd be competing with other clubs who he may find more attractive and who arsenal would prefer to sell to. if we're saying that we've got the money for one massive signing (and if we're saying that should go on another forward) then I think we should look at a younger player who would be cheaper overall, have a greater potential resale value, and most importantly would be a more realistic transfer. December 14, 20169 yr sanchez joining us just wont happen now that we have bunch of extra money, just put it all on griezman, atletico looking like they'll finish outside top4 this season, simeone's leaving, and he has already stated he wants to play in the PL, even with the upcoming transfer ban, think they won't refuse 60-70+ million

December 14, 20169 yr Farfetched but if we were looking to spend the Oscar-money offensivly then maybe Martial at United? Fantastic last season and huge potential but struggling under Mourinho and isn't consistently playing under him. Mourinho have shown before that he aren't afraid to sell one of his presumably best players if they don't fit his system or are unhappy with the situation.. Not unlike the Mourinho/Mata situation a few years back that one. Edited December 14, 20169 yr by Sindre
December 14, 20169 yr Let's start investigating whether or not Sanchez has a buyout clause in his contract. Oh and good luck to you Oscar, take it while you can get it
December 14, 20169 yr i think it's unfair how some of our fans on forums and social media have said negative things about oscar. i know he hasn't reached the level we had hoped, but to say you can't wait to get rid and he's been useless is hard. he himself has always been loyal to chelsea, and always insisted he wanted to stay as well as never whining when he hasn't played. for this reason he needs to be shown respect from every one of our fans. i mean he could start talking sh*t about us when he's in china, but if that happens then so be it, but for now he's been a good presence at the club.
December 14, 20169 yr What we have got to put into mind, is clubs will be aware we have just got £60m for Oscar, so they will try to milk us.
December 14, 20169 yr gotta admit, seeing how triggered our rival fans are about this "dodgy" deal has me feeling very satisfied indeed
December 14, 20169 yr Simon Johnson in Evening Standard also confirming reports of a bid of 60 million pounds for Oscar from Shanghai Shenua. Looks like some kind of official leak. I bet we could tempt Arsenal into selling us Sanchez for around that same price. Essentialy swapping Oscar for Alexis Sanchez. Or Verratti or that type of player. Wouldn't that be something.Or add some money and get Griezzman
December 14, 20169 yr 40m on Sanchez, since his deal runs out in 18 months, then 20m on a defender?A defender or a midfielder?
December 14, 20169 yr Things keep getting better for us!!! Hope this is all true and not just some normal transfer BS.It's happening except Oscar as usual buy himself more time by scoring a brace against Sunderland.
December 14, 20169 yr 52 mill for a player that isn't in the Conte's plans and probably not good enough for us either is insane. He was all potential when he first arrived but somehow always stayed on the "loads of potential" level. His fifth season with the club and people still remember his Juventus goals that he scored in his debut season.
December 14, 20169 yr Great deal for us dont blame oscar at all put some more in the pot and get griezman
December 14, 20169 yr 1 hour ago, Zola said: Oscar has claimed that the deal to take him from Chelsea to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG is "90 per cent done". The midfielder was subject to a huge £60million bid from Shanghai, who are now coached by former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, on Tuesday. Current Blues boss Antonio Conte insisted last month that Oscar's long-term future lay at Stamford Bridge, but it is believed that Chelsea could be tempted to sell and re-invest the money by buying new players in January. Oscar has started just six games in all competitions this season - nine overall - and the midfielder has now claimed that he is close to moving to China in January with only small details left to be completed. Speaking to Brazilian broadcaster SporTV, the 25-year-old is reported to have said: "It's 90% done. READ MORE Fans no longer pine for Jose with Chelsea out to go six-points clear "It just depends on some bureaucratic details." Oscar joined Chelsea from Internacional for £25million in 2012, and was wanted by Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning earlier this year. However, the midfielder did not want to leave Chelsea although he is thought to have since been swayed by the presence of Villas-Boas at Shanghai and the increasing number of Brazilians now playing in China, including former Blues teammate Ramires. Oscar is likely to receive a significant pay rise to his current £90,000-per-week salary at Chelsea should he move to China, with the midfielder expected to earn anywhere upward of £300,000-a-week. what the hell with this sort of money burning in china? they're spending money as if they're a rich oil country like arab... 300k a week for a player like oscar? btw, shanghai is all about the money, fame and power..

The Chinese PL excites me. China as a country essentially decided that the way to be considered 'modern' and a powerhouse outside of shady/cheap trading with other countries, was to let sport represent them. It's a big ambition, but they want to have the best football league in the world. So, all the biggest companies in China have banded together, some co-owning teams with eachother, and all are looking out for eachother despite competing. On a slightly different note, Shanghai is basically what everyone thinks Tokyo is. Tokyo was futuristic in the 80's & 90's, but nowadays when you go there, they're still stuck in times back then. Yes they have fancy toilets which say a prayer after you poop in them, yes they have a super train system, but the innovation ends there (well, they also have cool sachets of rice which you just plop into water for cooking.) But the buttons on the washing machines are mint-green plastic from the 50's, the architecture is.. quite terrible, unless you really enjoy the small charming houses which can fit 1.5 people in them. Shanghai on the other hand, it's said they move forward 5 years for every 1 year at this current rate. People say it's like the year 2030 there, and I want to go see for myself. But, I absolutely despise China as a whole due to their obsession with slicing endangered tigers in half, leaving them to bleed out on factory floors, then selling their penises. They have a disgusting culture, supplemented with a surface-level of beauty for foreigners. I've no idea why i'm sharing this, I think it's because I took ginseng (thank you Korea). Indeed ! Its all a bit crazy. Personally, I cant blame Oscar, he has won a few things already, if people are going to pay him absolutely stupid money he'd be crazy not to take it.
December 14, 20169 yr If he goes I will miss him, still only 25 and could still get better, but he's never quite achieved what we'd hoped. Periods and matches of brilliance interspersed with too many of averageness. A year ago this would have seemed a bad deal but right now I don't think we'll miss him so much and any player willing to move to China in their prime obviously has money more than matches on their mind. Not that I blame him of course, it's life changing money even for a filthy rich footballer and lots of money for a pretty rich club!

Pretty much sums up how I feel, I`m very disappointed he never fulfilled his obvious potential with us as if he had we had a great player on our hands.
December 14, 20169 yr I like oscar, and i actually think the work he puts in defensively has hindered his progress as an attacking force. He is a much better player than what he has shown in the last 2 years, but he has stagnated and him leaving has been ominous for a while now. If we end getting 60m for him, i will echo the sentiment that we should go for greizmann. I think we have enough options on our books to provide squad depth and strength with the likes of christiensen, ake, kenedy, and zouma. We dont need 20m-30m squad fillers, and it is pretty hard to think of players that would improve our best 11 at the moment. Greizmann would take us to another level imo.
