February 24, 201412 yr Not sure if this has been mentioned but I heard that he was injured at around the 9 minute of the game and was taken off because of it. Edited February 24, 201412 yr by Mamizcar
February 24, 201412 yr Our title run comes down to his form - simple as that. Our offensive production dips dramatically when he is off, tired or injured.
February 24, 201412 yr He hasn't really performed for a while now. He isn't a chance creator like Mata was. His play in the final third of the pitch is abysmall, that includes ball control, passing and dribbeling. Utter dross comment. Hang your head in shame.
February 24, 201412 yr Oscar desperately needs a rest. I'd play 433 in midweek with Hazard and Willian outwide, leaving Oscar on the bench. As good as Oscar is defensively, I feel like he could really do with bulking up a bit.
February 24, 201412 yr Having someone like Kroos would take the work-load off him, but yes, his form in the past few matches has been atrocious. No wonder were struggling to score goals--atleast we have a solid defense. Hopefully he gets a rest (maybe a few days vacation) and comes back stronger to spur the rest of our campaign.
February 24, 201412 yr I think it's fair to say most of us would have preferred Mata to have been given Oscar's role in the Team, I think This will always be Jose's first big mistake ..
February 24, 201412 yr I think it's fair to say most of us would have preferred Mata to have been given Oscar's role in the Team, I think This will always be Jose's first big mistake .. But 37 million is a lot of money, so small price to pay for the lack of creativity and brilliance Mata provided. I was hoping we'd nab Holtby in the January transfer window, brilliant little player who can play anywhere across the park and provides the guile and creativity we seem to be laking, thought he'd head back to Schalke but ended up in the wrong part of west London.

February 24, 201412 yr It's as if people have forgotten how bad Mata was earlier in the season. Does no-one remember the Sunderland game where Oscar came on for Mata early in the 2nd half and turned the game around?

Does no-one remember the Sunderland game where Oscar came on for Mata early in the 2nd half and turned the game around? Of course I remember, but Mata didn't get any kind of a solid run this season. I understand Mata isn't the playmaker Jose wants, but I don't think Oscar is the answer. He takes a lot of time on the ball. I prefer players who know where the ball needs to go before they get it, especially in the final third. Lampard in his best days is a good example, he still is btw. But Oscar always seems to wonder around with the ball. Even Mourinho can make mistakes, I believe some day selling Mata to keep Oscar as our main man in the attack will prove to be one of them. Also, with the departure of Mata we lost a lot of depth in the squad. If Oscar, Hazard and Willian are out of form or injured, we don't really have anyone to take over...

Your right, if those 3 get injured we only have Ramires, Schurle, Salah left. so erm, 2 players for each position. How will we ever cope.
February 24, 201412 yr Because it seems José didn't like Mata from the start.... Your right, if those 3 get injured we only have Ramires, Schurle, Salah left. so erm, 2 players for each position. How will we ever cope. You amaze me. Schurrle hasn't been able to show what he is capable of at all in a Chelsea shirt. While Salah needs time to acclimatize. And if you haven't noticed how bad Ramires is on the wing, you might want to start watching Chelsea games instead of playing them on fifa.
February 24, 201412 yr People were complaining we had too many AM's at the start of the season. We sold two and bought one and now apparantley we have too few. Is 5.5 attacking midfielders the only acceptable quantity?

No, because Oscar was playing fantastically well there. And where did I mention Ramires on the wing?
February 24, 201412 yr No, because Oscar was playing fantastically well there. And where did I mention Ramires on the wing? You said '' if those 3 get injured we only have Ramires, Schurle, Salah left. so erm, 2 players for each position'' ''Those'' must imply Hazard, Oscar and willian. ''each position'' Hazard = LW, Oscar = CAM, Willian = RW. They all interchange, but that doesn't change the 3 positions lw, cam, rw. So unless you meant Ramires as a CAM, you thought of him as a winger.
February 24, 201412 yr I thought of him through the middle. I think he works best in a midfield of 3, that way he can make his rushes through the middle. But thats a different discussion haha.

Does no-one remember the Sunderland game where Oscar came on for Mata early in the 2nd half and turned the game around? Do you not remember the Spurs game? where Mata came on at the start of the 2nd half and turned the game around and got a nice assist?
February 24, 201412 yr I do understand where CFCholland is coming from. I have never really been massively impressed with Oscar, i do think his passing and ball control can be very average at times and i can't remember the last time i seen him play a great pass for us. I do think he has massive potential though, and i do think he will become a great player. Right now though i don't think he is playing well at all and i was far more impressed with him last season than i am this season. I don't know if it is because he has played non stop for the last 2 years or something else all together, but at this moment he is going backwards and is getting worse as the season goes on. I am still waiting to see him put in another performance like the one against Juve, that is the level i was expecting to see more of from Oscar. Whatever it is i think right now he needs a few games off. I would like to see him used sparingly for the next month because he looks completely burned out.

I almost completely agree with you, but I don't think he has massive potential. I can see him becomming better, because well .... we've seen him play a hell of a lot better. But I don't think he will ever become the decisive passer/goalscorer/CAM most expect him to be. Time will tell I guess, of course I hope he proves me wrong. Oscar had 10 (!) days of rest after the WBA game, he only played about 20 minutes of football vs city, at which point the match was lost and he didn't really have to put in much effort. Players like Hazard, Azpi and Willian put in a great amound of effort as well, and they play just as many games. Willian came from a very weak Russian league, why doesn't he drop in form like Oscar? He must be fatigued as well...
February 24, 201412 yr I'm still great with the mata sale because we brought in a player to strengthen our second weakest position in Matic. I'll take an excellent DM plus money (plus a winger) for a relatively unused surplus sub
February 25, 201412 yr Thought at the time that selling both Kdb & Mata made it a poor window, regardless of Matic. Oscar has had a pretty poor season on the whole, and was out of form at the time of these sales. To think that his form would pick up with 2 more competitions to worry about and half the amount of rest he could've otherwise got probably wasn't the most sensible call From an aesthetic point of view, (because I do still sometimes watch football for entertainment) it really winds me up that Mourinho seems to have based his decision of who should play as our number 10 on who's the best defender...
