February 25, 201412 yr Matic was a great buy. Probably our best player since he got here and look at our squad... Hope the sun starts to shine in England sooner than later. Oscar seems to suffer at the moment.
February 25, 201412 yr Oscar, can be a bit hit and miss. But there's no doubt he is absolute quality. We would benefit more if he had to fight for his position and wasn't relied on to play almost every game, I think he would show a lot more consistency in his form if for 1 we could rest him a bit more often and secondly he had someone that rivalled him for that position. If you think about it he was showing his best form this season when he had to prove he was better than mata for that spot. Getting kroos in would be awesome, he could play centre mid or number 10, rotating with Oscar and Ramires. Would be an outstanding signing, boosting our midfield to another level. He could be our new lampard for the next 10 years, that does seem to be what our midfield is lacking, what lamps was doing for us up to a couple of years back.
February 25, 201412 yr Thought at the time that selling both Kdb & Mata made it a poor window, regardless of Matic. Oscar has had a pretty poor season on the whole, and was out of form at the time of these sales. Quite possibly the most wrong 2 sentences seen on here in a long time. Oscar was outstanding the first half of the season and when mata was sold was playing well enough for most people to admit mata not playing was due to Oscars form. It's amazing how a few bad matches blind some people.
February 25, 201412 yr Oscar has done more than enough in his time with us to demonstrate he is a top quality player. His current form is nowhere near his best and he does look like he needs a bit of a break to recharge the batteries. He isn't the first player to need that nor will he be the last. I find questioning his ability totally baffling.
February 25, 201412 yr Probably not that baffling Loz when you think about it. Mata was a hugely popular player with the supporters and I guess many feel he was only sold because Mourinho made it clear Oscar was his preferred “No. 10” and Mata wasn’t as important as he had been to us in previous seasons. All the time Oscar is performing well – no problem, but now his form has currently deserted him AND we have no Mata to call on, folk will understandably question the merits, especially when Schurrle also fails to step-up and it’s too early for Salah to have made any impact. Reading other comments about signing a player like Kroos to rotate with Oscar – well that’s just fantasy football again. You don’t sign a top player like Kroos and look to rotate him! You don’t rotate players of that calibre – not to any great extent anyway. We have enough quality in the squad and with the youngsters coming through to give minutes to whilst Oscar clearly needs a rest (someone like Piazzon would be ideal to give a try but of course he’s out on loan right now). Oscar has had a pretty poor season on the whole, and was out of form at the time of these sales. To think that his form would pick up with 2 more competitions to worry about and half the amount of rest he could've otherwise got probably wasn't the most sensible call From an aesthetic point of view, (because I do still sometimes watch football for entertainment) it really winds me up that Mourinho seems to have based his decision of who should play as our number 10 on who's the best defender... Have to say I agree with this.Oscar is quality though, amazing how fickle some people are. Going through a short moment out of form, but it will come back. Its got to be him finally burnt out after so much football. If he can get a little more rest he should come back into form pretty sharply, and those saying hes not good enough will probably be hanging out of his arse saying he's the best player ever. I think he based his decision on who we will win the most games with, which judging by our league position relative to Mata's two seasons, he got correct.

His current form is nowhere near his best and he does look like he needs a bit of a break to recharge the batteries. He isn't the first player to need that nor will he be the last. I find questioning his ability totally baffling. Absolutely, maybe it's forgotten that he's still only 22 years old and will still be prone to the odd run of poor form and inconsistency. Hazard is another example of this, he started the season slowly and has run into great form, Oscar the polar opposite - he started the season well and has lost form. Oscar is a quality footballer having a poor run, he'll be back, hope it's soon.
February 25, 201412 yr I think he based his decision on who we will win the most games with, which judging by our league position relative to Mata's two seasons, he got correct. Dont think you can use mata as a reason our league form wasnt as good under avb, rdm, and fsw. Considering we have been told all season how we are aiming to become a possession based team, I find ut alarm that we sold our best playmaker because his lack of defensive work. With oscar off form, we are now looking very short on match winners, and although 37m is decent money, its the going rate for a proven game changer like mata had proved over and over again. Detracters point to mata's form under mourinho, but I dont thimk he ever had the complete confidence from the manager. We now seem light in attacking midfield with no proven quality on the bench. With matic coming in to shore up the midfield, I was hoping it would allow mata to express himself with extra freedom afforded by having matic behind him. Its a real shame because a funtioning mourinho team with winning mentality, a top centre forward, and mata, hazard, oscar, matic, and willian, would have been a true spectacle. I will always back mourinho, and with mata it wasnt meant to be but I will always be left wondering what if?
February 25, 201412 yr and those saying hes not good enough will probably be hanging out of his arse saying he's the best player ever. What kind of a dumb statement is that? Because some people dont believe oscar will be great for us, our opinion is wrong? Of course all chelsea fans want him to succeed, so eventhough we aren't big fans of him now doesnt mean we will never be.

I will always back mourinho, and with mata it wasnt meant to be but I will always be left wondering what if? I agree in principle as I never felt Mata got a fair chance under Mourinho for one reason or another. However, it's quite clear that he isn't satisfied with the squad at the moment. Some bench players can't get a game and he's open about how terrible our strikers are. He's got a team in mind and he's building it incrementally. He keeps saying that next season he'll happily declare us favourites, and I'm excited to see what he has in mind. Obviously our attack isn't working how he wants it yet, and if we win the league with an incomplete team, god help the rest of them when Mourinho does complete it.
February 26, 201412 yr Quite possibly the most wrong 2 sentences seen on here in a long time. Oscar was outstanding the first half of the season and when mata was sold was playing well enough for most people to admit mata not playing was due to Oscars form. It's amazing how a few bad matches blind some people. To make it clear, I rate Oscar highly (although imo he'd probably suit a deeper role). Yeah he started strongly but I feel like he's been a lot more inconsistent this year than people are letting on. Poor was the wrong word (it was late!). My main issue is from the perspective of the squad, not a real issue with Oscar. We have no good alternative of a number 10 for if Oscar is playing poorly, which considering the guy hasn't had a break for about 3 years, was always inevitable. We started the season with 2.
February 26, 201412 yr I still think Oscar gets a bit more stick for below par performances because of the hard time Mata had getting games ahead of him and the fact that Mata was sold because Jose is happy to have Oscar as his number ten. I feel Oscar has only had a couple of really poor games and others that we haven't seen him at his best some have been hyper critical because of the Mata reasoning and because of how good he can be when he is on fire. People have to face the fact that Jose picks the team and he is building it with hard working players with not little skill, I am convinced if Oscar had less of a workload he could look a lot better going forward and create for others as well as himself but he has that workload and once we have a squad of players Jose feels are right, I think he will get a bit more freedom to show us more. Mata wasn't given to a rival, Jose had 37mill towards the war chest which even if you rate Mata very highly and don't care if he wasn't working the way the manager wanted is a very fair price. We've already spent some of that pretty wisely in my opinion. I think Willian or Hazard can play the role if Oscar is injured or rested and that gives chances to Shurrle or Salah and although I would have liked to have hung on to KDB, that would have meant less opportunity to these two. I liked to watch Mata when he was making things happen but I honestly think we are stronger without him in the first eleven, yes there are games it would be nice to have a bit more guile to open teams up but I feel much less like we'll concede with the attacking midfielders working as hard as they do. I'm looking forward to seeing what Jose has in mind for next season, I think it could be a real treat. Edited February 26, 201412 yr by Chippy
February 26, 201412 yr I think Oscar is just shattered. Seems he will be getting some rest and hope we can get him back to top performances. Since summer 2012 he has played an unbelievable amount of football.
February 26, 201412 yr and those saying hes not good enough will probably be hanging out of his arse saying he's the best player ever. You do realize us chelsea fans who think hes not that good would love to be proven wrong? If he turns out to be a top player am i supposed to put him down because in the past i was sceptical whether he'd get there?
February 26, 201412 yr The sooner this guy is back in form the better. We are going to drop sh*t load of points with this stale attack.

February 26, 201412 yr think hazard needs a rest as well, so could do with oscar finding some form to give hazard a game or two at home.
February 26, 201412 yr He has been out of form for a while but we have still been getting the points so... How long have you been watching football for really? This wont last forever, we where lucky against Everton and we aren't going to get lucky against every team. Once Aguero is back for City they will have a big advantage. Remember that if City win there game in hand they are top of the league not us. So stop getting cocky, I mean this might be your first or second season of watching football but take it from me as some advice of someone who has supported Chelsea before Abramovich came.

What a terrible comeback. "This wont last forever" Again your great at predicting the future. Our best performance of the season came when Oscar didn't start, City wont have an advantage as they have tougher fixtures than us.

This is a debate not a teenage argument. And if you want my opinion my guess is you haven't been watching football for very long. Mourinho being negative about this season isn't mind games, I bet the guy is going to sleep every night pissing himself how we are top of the league. City are a better side than us and that is why they have an advantage. There worst striker has more goals than our best striker. The way this season has went I would rather play the big teams as we seem to drop points against the ones fighting out of relegation. So I wouldn't be so certain about this title in the bag if I were you because we have a really long way to go and tonights performance shown how poor we are when it comes to attacking teams.

If that's not petty and childish i don't know what is. ?I never said City weren't a better side than us but them being behind us in the table and with them also having tougher fixtures i don't see how they have an advantage. They score more than us we know but they concede more than we do, 27 games in and they have lost 5 times to our 3. Never said i was certain that we have the title in the bag but I'm confident and was at the start of the season too. "City weakest striker has more goals than our best striker" Great but it hasn't stopped us doing the double over them and it hasn't stopped us from losing fewer games than them.
