March 12, 201511 yr We can't afford to carry him year after year when his new year form plummits, we really do need a top quality alternative to at least try and make him play out of his slump. He's still a young player. Young players are inconsistent. Let's put it into context. He's younger than Jordan Henderson and about the same age as Ryan Mason and Coquelin but I think people think he's older because of the amount of football he's played. He actually has been a big player for us in each of the last two seasons but hasn't been able to maintain that form. That's not necessarily an excuse but I would still give him another year, whereas I'd ship off Ramires and Willian.

I agree with all of that but we can't have a player like that in our starting 11 when at this stage he's nothing close to his form pre Christmas. That's why we have to IMO look at other options, by all means keep the lad and see if he can get over this problem he seems to have but a top club needs someone they can rely on in that position. I doubt we would get big money for him in any case.
March 12, 201511 yr Fabregas is going through the exact same thing. Stats wise i agree, but he is still having decent games here and there. Oscar hasn't had a good game since the Swansea game and i think that is the only game where he has played well so far this year. Fabregas hasn't been outstanding of late but he has had games where he has made some key passes. Edited March 12, 201511 yr by Scott Harris
March 12, 201511 yr Fabregas is going through the exact same thing. He was the only midfielder last night trying to take the game to them. He was given nothing ahead of him so much so he had a go at several players last night and you could see how angry he was. He's not been as effective as he was but that's because the majority of our attaking players other than Hazard have gone off the boil. A player like Cesc who's best attribute is creating chances isn't going to be useful when we play at a walking pace and no one is making runs. He too has gone off the boil to an extent but not to the same level as the others in front of him. Edited March 12, 201511 yr by Chelsbear
March 12, 201511 yr Fabregas is going through the exact same thing. Fabregas was good yesterday, people who say he wasn't weren't very observant really. He did what he should do, get our best players on the ball, a centre mid shouldn't be relied on to make clear cut chances when we have three attackers behind the striker. Fabregas was getting plenty of attacks going. The likes of Ramires and Oscar were inefficient and Willian when he came on. Hazard was also poor by his standards but even then he is that good he was still our best attacker, that is what's worrying. It goes to show the difference of class, he is a tremendous player but we shouldn't have to rely on him all the time. Oscar yet again had little impact, and I can see this being an occurring thing from now and until the end of the season just like last.
March 12, 201511 yr This thread should be renamed oscar: cubic zirconia, looks like the real thing, flatters to deceive, cracks when real pressure applied, unlike diamond.
March 12, 201511 yr Is he better then Lampard at the same ages? Yes. Will he go on to be a better than Lampard ended up being? Probably not.
March 12, 201511 yr Yes. Will he go on to be a better than Lampard ended up being? Probably not. I wouldn't compare them, pointless, different players. Also Lampard has set the standard really high. Although Oscar is showing little flair and creativity in a lot of these games now, when I see him for Brazil he is a completely different player, it's strange to see why he is so blunt when playing for us.

I wouldnt compare them, similar players. Oscar will never reach Lampards heights. This is Oscars peak. And i dont know how often you watch Brazil play, but hes the same for them.

I thought he was really good in the World Cup, he looked different, more energetic always looking to get the ball forward. How do you know this is Oscars peak? We don't know that, he does still have time on his side but he is still frustrating the hell out of me as a player at the same time.
March 12, 201511 yr Yes. Will he go on to be a better than Lampard ended up being? Probably not. The point is if with this level of judgement we would never have found out
March 12, 201511 yr PSG probably won't want to buy him now anyway, after that turgid display against them

We don't know that, he does still have time on his side but he is still frustrating the hell out of me as a player at the same time. He had 1 good game in the World Cup And of course i dont KNOW what his peak is. But thats what it looks like to me. I think a lot of people assume a player will improve just because hes young.
March 12, 201511 yr PSG probably won't want to buy him now anyway, after that turgid display against them AU CONTRAIRE! As Del Boy used to say, they still paid 50 million for David Luiz and he even scored for them against us before they signed him. Edited March 12, 201511 yr by Slawth
March 12, 201511 yr What is with all these Brazilians we sign? They seem to be talented and have certain skill sets but simply do not fit into any particular position on the pitch. First it was Ramires, then Luiz and now Oscar. I'm not sure he's suited to any kind of playmaking role, at least not right now and not to the level we require. Every time he gets the ball he looks unsure, and takes a while before deciding what to do next. A playmaker should have an idea of his surroundings and be able to see the next move as soon as he gets the ball. And when your no.10 doesn't have that kind of awareness, it becomes difficult to put together smooth passing moves or keep the ball when pressed, and that's what we get faced with against any good team. I think the best he could become for us is a player that can come in and perform multiple roles to a good level, but he'll never be world class in any particular position imo.
March 12, 201511 yr I have never been a fan of Oscar and I won't ever be. It's just his playing style that annoys the crap out of me. I'm not saying we should get rid of him because I too believe he can become more consistent and become a good squad player. However, if he's standing in the way of us signing someone else for his position I wouldn't hesitate on selling him.
March 12, 201511 yr Although Oscar is showing little flair and creativity in a lot of these games now, when I see him for Brazil he is a completely different player, it's strange to see why he is so blunt when playing for us. In all fairness, international football is played at a far, far slower pace and generally at a much lower standard than club football.
March 12, 201511 yr I think we need to either improve our pressing and passing game to the point where we can dominate the best teams in the world. Or we need to bring in a few more players capable of grinding out results whilst spending much of the game on the back foot. Oscar, ramires, and willian are not good enough in either aspect when we are playing good opposition. Think we should still seal the title, but I can't see the current squad going on to dominate.
March 12, 201511 yr Whatever people might think of Oscar, I thought that last night we were better balanced and offered far more going forward with him on the pitch. The second half performance was very poor without him there. The kicking away of the ball that got him booked, might just have cost us the tie? Silly thing to do at the time and perhaps even sillier 2hrs later.
March 12, 201511 yr Oscar is a #10 is just a myth, he's very much of a CM. He barely has any vision or flair to be a #10. But still he fits well in our team with Cesc and Matic and I would not want to replace him.

The highlights of his performance yesterday were fukking up a great counterattack and getting ibra sent off
