Haha that first vote wasn't actually me funnily enough. If I create the thread I don't like being the first to vote. That said I did think Mikel was good, I thought his passing was excellent, growing more adventurous as the game went on and he made some good interceptions. He would also have had an assist if we had a competent centre forward. That said I agree that he and Ramires were particularly slow to react when Sparta moved the ball forward quickly.

My vote goes to Hazard - individual moment of brilliance to take us through. Nothing much else to write home about.

Gave it to Mikel as I thought he controlled quite well and made some excellent passes forward, something he must have picked up from his time back home. Hazards goal was a belter, but I cant give it for one moment.

How the f**k can Hazard be MoTM?  I despair sometimes.  :face_palm:

I'm not saying he didn't score a great goal - he clearly did.  I'm not even saying that he didn't play well when he came on.  But maybe my understanding of what constitutes MoTM is warped.

I suppose it is possible that doing one specific thing could earn that award, but I think it has to be more than that except in very exceptional circumstances.  If Torres had scored the winner, or Ramires or anyone else for that matter, would that automatically make them MoTM?

Based on overall play for the time they were on the field I'd say Oscar was our best player.  The decision to replace him rather than Moses or perhaps one of the defensive midfielders was strange to say the least.

Other players clearly contributed more over 90 minutes but as valiant as (some of) their efforts may have been, we were still 1-0 down at home. The only thing which secured the draw was Hazard's individual brilliance. As the game-changer I can't really justify giving it to anyone else. If it was a tap-in I'd agree with you but he made a great run by himself and then spanked it in from nowhere.

You could argue that Hazard contributed more in his cameo than most of of the other players did in 90 minutes, so I really don't find it hard to understand why so many people would vote for him.

Personally I was most impressed by Oscar overall and he gets my vote, he was the creative bright spark for much of the game and also showed a great work-rate, dropping back to cover the defence whenever necessary. I don't think it's a coincidence that Bertrand seemed to have a good game as well behind him.

I thought the performance from everyone last night was sh*t, it was only when Hazard come on that things changed so that's why i gave him man of the match, no one else deserved it in my opinion.

Don't agree with that at all.  Not everyone was sh*te.  We played some decent football but suffered from poor finishing and a defensive lapse.  Hazard didn't change the game when he came on.  If anything we looked less likely to score and were lucky not to concede at least one goal at the end.  But, of course, scoring a fantastic goal obscures all of that.

Agreed, he always seemed to be around the ball when sparta cleared it allowing us to retain posetion. Broke up quite a few attacks, I think I counted for or five in the first half alone.

Oscar for me, I was very surprised when his number came up for Hazard (until I remembered who was in the Dugout) but Hazards goal meant I couldn't abuse the Interim for the wrong substitution...although it was clearly that.

Oscar for me too.  Thought he was good throughout.

On the topic of "Man of the Match" I agree that it is sometimes best to someone who contributed throughout the entire 90, but when a moment of brilliance by an individual sub actually secure the entire match itself, I can understand that too.
