Doesn't that leave us short of defensive cover?

We will have Ake, Terry and Zouma as cover for 5 defenders. Doesn't sound like a lot.

If anything, we have added a personnel in cover as only Iva and JT were realistic options. Zouma was injured most of the first half of the season

Now we have Ake for LWB, LCB; Zouma for CB, RCB; Kenedy for LWB; JT for CB. More than adequate cover for a team only in 2 competitions.

Class move by the club to let him go 6 months early without a transfer fee. Good luck to him. Opposition fans know he was a top class defender. I honestly think he has a few years left in him and don't mind that they will be at another club. Especially if that club is outside the PL.

does anyone remember when he scored 2 headers vs Liverpool in the champions league? If memory serves me right, he was fairly unknown at the time.

Legend.... people say i might be throwing that word around to easily but we are talking about a guy who has been ever present for almost a decade

He announced him self on the scene with two headed goals against Liverpool in the champions league

He then kept scoring against Liverpool including an extra time winner in the League cup on our way to the double

Always scored vital goals for us...

He scored the winner against Benfica in the Europa League final

The Extra time goal in the CL against Napoli

He played every game in the 2014/15 title winning season.

And forgetting the last 18 months the guy could defend a bit as well....

How can he not be a legend...

Ivan, thanks for the memories, the great times and all the best for the future...

Branislav Ivanovi? has just landed in Saint Petersburg to sign for Zenit. "I'm ready at 100% to play" - he told journalists.

Sad to see him go, he's been a tremendous servant to the club.

Must be one of the best signings we have ever had in terms of what we got for the money ... he only cost £9.7 million I think it was ... 376 appearances and 34 goals ... good luck to him in the rest of his career, and I must re-iterate what has been said above that this is a classy move on behalf of the club to offer a free transfer as a reward for years of loyal service.

My only surprise is that he wants to freeze his bollocks off in Russia rather than join the Chinese gravy train ... :-)

Personally hoped he'd stay for at least another season - as contentious as this sounds in terms of what I feel he can still contribute to the team I think we'll miss him more than Cech/Lampard.

I'm not sure if there ever was an offer from China for him, but if there was, maybe he values the quality of football over money. The league is better and there's the chance to play in Champions League. He's probably already pretty much set for life with the money he's earned (and saved) during his time at Chelsea.

Anyway... If for some reason he sees this: thanks for all the memories Bran the Man!

Definitely a legend, no need to defend it. Just wished he could've stayed till the summer to celebrate one more trophy with us.

Great player in his prime, has done well for us, scored some very important goals and helped win big trophies. Has been a shadow of his former self since last season.

Good man. Club legend. Will be remembered fondly.

So, is it official?

Not yet, but he's flown to St. Petersburg, so I assume it will be official soon.

The deadline for transfers is done, and it is not official yet? Does the window in Russia close later or? Sky reported he passed his medical and nothing since.

Russian transfer window closes midnight tonight I believe.
