February 27, 201610 yr That's the trouble with Ivan, he has been pretty awful for the entire season, scores a goal and suddenly he is the messiah again. I have said it for years, he is a CB and he needs to play there exchanging places with Terry / Cahill with Zouma keeping a permanent place alongside either one of them. Whoever put him playing RB needs his balls cut off. Hehe what's that Jose who put him playing RB?
February 27, 201610 yr Hehe what's that Jose who put him playing RB? I thought it was Guus who played him there following Solaris's reign and he cemented his place there with Carlo.
February 27, 201610 yr He played his first game for us at right back under scolari didn't he, I'm pretty sure he spent most of his first starts there.
February 27, 201610 yr At the beginning of the season everyone hated him, now when he scored people will probably show some love towards him. It's funny how fast opinions change in the world of football. But gat was a good header, I'm happy he scored. Now Eden needs to score some goals. You are right but that's football, can change from game to game. I have never rated Iva at RB even when people thought he was playing well. Dreadful crosses and attacking, I would of rather of signed Clyne. Defiantly a good CB back, just hope he doesn't get moved back to RB with Dave at LB, I think it weakens Chelsea and just brings back of all frustrations of no natural fullbacks and no reliable crosses.
February 27, 201610 yr Since Carvalho left, we have been looking for someone to play alongside Terry. Alex was alright, David Luiz was too risky as a CB and Cahill has been both good and bad at times. I wonder how much better we would have been if we just stuck with Ivanovic and Terry throughout these years. It's hard to complain though, even with those CB's i listed playing next to Terry, we have still won many trophies. It possibly would have been better for us if we just went out and signed a world class RB years ago though and put Ivanovic next to Terry instead of playing him at RB.
February 27, 201610 yr They would be a horribly paceless partnership though. It's possible to work around that but it's still quite a handicap.

February 28, 201610 yr At the beginning of the season he was playing as an RB and his lack of pace was exposed, But now he is playing as a CB where he fits in perfectly ;). So we hate him as a player and call him sh*t when he played at RB and love him when he's playing at CB...? Btw, he could score some headers when he was playing RB.
February 28, 201610 yr So we hate him as a player and call him sh*t when he played at RB and love him when he's playing at CB...? Btw, he could score some headers when he was playing RB. Yes and no. When he was playing as an RB this year, his lack of pace was exposed and he was a huge liability, And I dont think fans like players who are a liability. However, Once he was switched to the CB position, He filled in well for JT and was very impressive and fans like players who are an asset. Nothing surprising there ... I understand that you are referencing how fickle us fans are who are changing views within the span of a season - but the truth is, the players have set a high bar for themselves and we as fans want them to perform at that level if not more.

Yeah we change our opinions pretty fast. Same with Guus, we were complaining about lack of substitutes and not being able to beat certain clubs but now after Soithampton match we love him :) Yes we have high expectations however consistency is very reare especially at Chelsea Football Club and in PL in general.
February 28, 201610 yr Quality central defender, let's hope the right back job is a thing of past now, even when JT comes back.
February 29, 201610 yr At the beginning of the season he was playing as an RB and his lack of pace was exposed, But now he is playing as a CB where he fits in perfectly ;). Agree with this, for a right back he is now unfortunately too slow, but a slow right back is still a reasonably quick centre back. He's definitely quicker than Cahill and Terry

March 5, 201610 yr Very good center back, not a full back ,as we all knew.Good club pro who has scored some vital goals.Never hated him, what is that all about?

I had no idea about the bloody boot until now either Although the line that if hr could Abramovich would have sacked all the players too isn't quite the same as saying that if he could Abramovich would have sacked all the players instead of Jose. Brana needs to play at CB it's pretty obvious.
March 5, 201610 yr His form certainly has improved since being moved to CB but I know as soon as JT is back he'll play RB again (instead of being dropped or compete for the remaining CB spot with Cahill) and poor Azpi has go to the LB position again. He shouldn't be accommodated for just because of how long he's been here for, his form was diabolical for a lot of this season and to be honest the past couple of seasons. Maybe diabolical too strong a word but he was always certainly our weakest defender. I wouldn't play him at RB, he's been solid at CB so either play him there or drop him. Yes I know he got our winning goal against Southampton and some important ones in the past (Napoli, Benfica) but so did Hazard and Oscar and people call for them to be dropped all the time. The only player who deserves a little flexibility this season is Wilian, a lot of them got through on reputation rather than form earlier in the season and that's one of the reasons we are where we are. It just frustrates me instead of playing your strongest players in their strongest positions we try to fit a square in a round peg. I like him but I'm growing very bitter that he didn't once get dropped by Mourinho or indeed Hiddink. Maybe he didn't because they both know better than me, maybe his presence/personality made up for his performances, because he wasn't kept in because of form. I don't want him as captain next season, that honour made players like Beckham, Gerrard and Rooney undroppable when they weren't fit to wear the England shirt at times. We can't have that here, no one expects England to win anything but they do us. I'm not sure who should be captain, we'll probably have to bring one in. But we won't. It'll be Ivanovic unless the new Manager has someone in mind.

It'll be Ivanovic unless the new Manager has someone in mind. I agree Gem, nobody wants to see Ivanovic back at RB. When Terry get's back, Ivanovic and Cahill should be made to rotate. If Terry is here next season then they will all have to share the game time, we can't afford to start playing Ivanovic at RB again. We really should be going out to find a better LB next season so we can play Azpilicueta in his natural position for good. I would love us to sign Rodriguez but it will be hard to get him from Wolfsburg.
March 12, 201610 yr its a big ask I know but can this man concentrate for 90 minutes?. Honestly if he's a quality defender what does that make Terry?.if the level of our ambition going forward is to have him in our defence as some untouchable then i wont be very hopeful.
April 14, 201610 yr Welcome to Branislav Ivanovi? Appreciation Day! If there was justice in this world, this would be a national, if not worldwide holiday. But it's just a Chelsea holiday as far as I'm aware, though feel free to spread the word, talk to people, hang some banners, and celebrate the almighty Beardislav with all your friends and family. Chelsea will celebrate the Vice-captain with a whole evening of programming on Chelsea TV — including a replay of the Napoli match at Stamford Bridge — but because this service is stuck in a previous century, you won't be able to watch it without signing up and paying the membership fee. The 2.5-minute promo video seen above is already more than the freeloading plebs normally deserve, right? The "born in Serbia, made in Chelsea" quote comes from the big interview he did in January after signing his one-year contract extension. While there are tenuous rumors that might leave anyway, I'm fairly certain that ain't happening anytime soon. In fact, he'll probably be named captain next year, after Terry leaves. http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2016/4/14/11429018/chelsea-declare-today-branislav-ivanovic-appreciation-day Edited April 14, 201610 yr by BelgradeCFC
November 16, 20169 yr Quote Barcelona are weighing up moves for three veteran defenders as they look to replace Aleix Vidal in the January transfer window.According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Luis Enrique is considering Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, Juventus' Stephan Lichtsteiner and Shakhtar Donetsk's Darijo Srna as short-term options. Barca could fulfill wishes of many fans on this forum and wider, but I personally would be sad if he is gone. Not the same player as before, but he could still offer us a lot at CB position.
