Our New Stadium

Featured Replies

One thing I haven't seen mentioned so far is anything in relation to the name which is surrey quite a massive factor, both from the fans point of view, and financially if naming rights are to be used as a sponsorship.

Does anyone know if anything has been said on whether the name Stamford Bridge will remain or will it be sponsored?

Obviously I hope it stays as it is although from a business sense its hard to believe the club could overlook what would be a massive financial plus from selling the naming rights of what will be one of the most anticipated, unique talked about stadiums in world football. I truly hope we don't go down this path but you could hardly blame Roman for wanting to recoup some of the £500M (plus) he will be forking out.

I hope the club and consultants continue to use the 'emirates' stadium as the blueprint of how not to design and build a football stadium and I think we will get it right... I just hope this extends to the naming rights situation too.

,, £500 million is a massive underestimate, it will cost nearly double that....... IMO

Inclined to agree although very hard to know with no real details of the construction.

Based on the Emirates being about £500M I can't believe the complexity of this project would not force the cost up and that's before you factor in the obvious inflation.

I would say the £500M was a very 'loose' estimation just to get things started.

Very excited about seeing the more detailed plans that are mentioned though. I am starting to get the feeling we are slightly further advanced in this process that I initially thought. One would imagine the more detailed plans are already in existence but the club are choosing to gradually drip feed the information to gauge reaction and act accordingly as opposed to just steaming in with everything at once which is probably a good call.

So far so good in the way the club are handling this so kudos for that after what appeared a rather uninspired effort to secure the Earls Court/Battersea sites.

I can´t believe that RA will sell the name. When you spent hundreds of millions for your beloved club, it makes little sense to get back a few of them later by selling an important part of the clubs history.

Or will it become the Roman Abramovich Stadium?

I hope it will always stay the Bridge.

I suppose what you have to bear in mind is that we already own the land we will be building on. I can imagine a significant amount of money for the Emirates stadium was buying the 20 o or so acres of land it is built on.

To be honest I presumed the costs mentioned in relation to other stadiums were purely build costs not taking into account the land acquisition; I've not done any research on that though to be honest.

I think in our case we would have benefited from a cost point of view had we sold our site and, for example, moved to Battersea, just because the value of the current Stamford Bridge site would be unparalleled with anything else. I am pretty sure it would have not only covered the cost of the new site but a good portion of the build cost of any new stadium as well.

Not complaining though, a new 60,000 stadium on the current site is and always has been the dream for me to be honest.

I would be very surprised if we didn't tender out for naming rights. Stupid money to be made there.

As has been said...Sir Roman will recoup 500 mil very swiftly in many many ways....500 mil to him is a couple of boats he doesnt now need to buy........Love the guy.....All we need to do is convince the planners to make an end accoustically able to allow me to sing and drown out 3000 spuds...This will happen...The new ground at its present location will be done by the time im 65 and still able ( hopefully) to abuse spuds loudly

You are absolutely right. Give the complexity of the site and the access and space restrictions they would have to produce a detailed design to be able to properly assess the feasibility. No way are they going to publicly present something if they are unsure as to whether it will actually work. This is a very exciting proposal and the concept is outstanding; we get to stay at the same site, expand our capacity and produce an iconic building designed by some of the best architects in the world.

I just want them to get on with it - the designs look stunning and if built correctly could create an amazing atmosphere. Please get it done in my bloody life time!

This may sound silly but will the money spent on the new stadium hinder us financially like arsenal were after the Emirates was built?

Retirement present for you Mike

No issue with selling the naming rights. As fans we'll still colloquially refer to it as 'The Bridge' and there's too much money there to be made. Ideally our home would always be called Stamford Bridge but unfortunately money takes precedence over romance in Football these days.

^ Actually there is little money involved in naming rights.

Arsenal get about £5m a year. Hardly a difference maker, if it was good money (£10m+) and coming from a respectable (pref English) brand that that would be a good idea.

This new stadium plan looks good. I'm very happy for you guys who live there and go to the games frequently.

The name part is tricky. If a huge brand comes and buys the name it will be used everywhere and although core fans will still use the name Bridge the new name will take on pretty quickly...

Arsenal receive around £30 million a year from Emirates, though that includes shirt sponsorship so it's hard to know the actual breakdown. Suffice to say any figure for naming rights for our stadium will be huge, and a route I'm sure the club will take.

"Its all about refinement and elegance-things that would be totally absurd in Chelsea" Oh I say the locals won't like that...Ha Ha

Anyway as a resident of Fulham I hope they ask my opinion, posh nimby's who move next to a football club and then moan about it, should just b*gger off...I can't wait for this to get the green light.

No, Its not hard at all. Considering dippers get 25m for their shirt sponsorship, arsenal will get atleast as much. So £30m minus £25m is £5m. Easy peasy.

You do know Arsenal will likely have different terms than another club right?

Not all sponsorship deals are the same.

arsenal getting at least as much as the dippers is a fair assumption to make. So the ball park works.

would it be really worthwhile calling the new stadium "the kentucky fried chicken stadium" or some sh*t like that for a paltry sum of money.

We aren't sponsored by KFC for a start.

You have to remember the deal Arsenal made with Emirates was more than 10 years ago.

I'm sure we would look to maximise any deal to the benefit of the club and I see some big interest in what will be the stand out stadium in England if this goes through.
