David Luiz - Defense or midfield

Featured Replies

Personally I think he has all the makings of a quality cb in the mould of carvalho

And I would prefer chelsea to buy a defensive mid

There are two options in my opinion

Keep luiz as cb. - Keep de Bruyne, put Oscar in pivot or sign likes of bender, capoue, modric etc....

Put luiz as dm. - Buy a new centre back. Eg. Lovren, hummels, subotic etc...

Your opinions please

hes getting better at both .but still to casual at back and switches of to much . great player love him improved so much this season

Get him in midfield, he really suits that role. And he'll even get some opportunities to shoot (Fulham goal anyone?) in that position.

He can do either well, brazil think he's good enuf at centre back and I agree wiv the comment about carvalho, but I prefer him in midfield cos he every assets you need to be world class

Best player over whole season in my book

Centre back for me and nowhere else. He been our most consistent defender all season (sorry g4) and I don't see any reason to move him. It might work in midfield against lesser teams but I have my doubts if he played there against a top club which I dont think he has yet (could be wrong!) I think quick, clever players would just play around him.

We do clearly need another couple of midfielders though.

We have already, thank you very much.

No we haven't. Anyway its like ive said before 2 months of great form does not take away 7 months of terrible defending, hence I really cannot trust him to be our 1st choice centre back just yet.

CB for me, he has improved for the majority of this season, and he has matured has a player. If we manage to get JM then i think it will only benefit him, he will have a certain amount of license with the ball but Jose will not let him take risks at the back. If he continues to improve his concentration then i see no reason why he can't be as Great a CB as riccy carvalho was.

No way will he ever be a quality DM, against smaller teams with a license to go forward then yes, but when we are playing the likes of munich,Real madrid, Barca, Man U etc....

@mamzicar

That champions league and FA cup last season aren't titles?

Not being funny but any player barcelona want, it would probably be in our best interest to keep him, he needs someone senior next to him such as JT, because John will make sure he's acting like a moron. When he plays CDM, he has the opportunity to go forward and it not be too risky, but if we played him and ramires together, who both like going forward it may not work and i'd rather have rami and lamps than lose rami due to lack of first team football.

I say play him where he wants to play. If we force him to play where he doesnt want to then he will leave. Do we really want that.

Im talking about the Premier League title which requires consistency over a 10 month period. It is much easier to win the Fa cup than the Pl imo and our Cl victory was due to the fact that we were playing with 9 defenders and Didier Drogba, even then we were incredibly lucky to win it.

are you here on the wind up? ive never seen such drivel in all my life. If david luiz can put in world class performances against barcelona and bayern over 3 games, he can keep the likes of west brom, southampton, fulham, wigan, west ham and stoke at bay over the course of the season. as for us being lucky to win the champions league, are you sure youre a chelsea fan? because the way i saw it we put in a masterclass of defensive football, counter attacking and showed grit and determination when fighting against all odds. was it luck that we didnt give up and equalised in the last minute of the final? was it luck we didnt buckle at 2-0 down and down to ten men at the nou camp of all places? you've been reading the papers too much if you think we didnt 100% deserve our trophy. good grief, man!

Defense for me, the brain fart moments aren't as prominent in his game anymore and under the right coach (Jose please!) I think he has the potential to establish himself as the best defender in the league.

His distribution from the back is fantastic outlet for us to have as well.

Yes im a fan of this club but im not going to let that particular fact cloud my judgement. Barcelona and Bayern still created quite a lot chances(both teams also missed a penalties) even when we were defending astonishingly deep in both matches- there was definitely an element of luck whether you like it or not.

Secondly using your logic Jon Obi Mikel should be able to keep the likes of Southampton at bay (he didnt and we lost) since he also put in world class performances against Bayern and Barcelona. Football doesnt work that way, consistency is the key factor that decides if a player should start or play in a particular position.

As a CB, Luiz is a frustrating one in the sense that we only see the best of him when it really counts. He begun both this and last season in inconsistent and lackadaisical form. However, akin to last season, he seems to be hitting top form as we enter the crunch phase of the season. Overall, Luiz is technically an excellent defender, it's the mental side of the game which he needs to work on.

As a DM, he has all the tools to play there, but we've not seen him do it against the top sides. It's all well and good dominating Leon Britton but playing against Yaya Toure is a totally different ballgame. Don't get me wrong, with his natural ability, he could well develop into a top CM. However, that's still a long way off for me, and for now, he is our best CB when on form. I think it's best we leave him there, and maybe only play him in Midfield against lesser sides or if there's no other cover.

Will be interesting to see where he plays on Sunday against Utd,if he plays CM its a good test for him and will give us a good indication of if he can do it against better teams.

The answer to the question is midfield for me sometimes i feel his technical ability is wasted at CB, i dont mind him at CB but i always feel he has a mistake in him.
