Cesc Fabregas

Featured Replies

Top assists table for last seasons La Liga:

Ángel Di María, Real Madrid - 17

Cesc Fábregas, Barcelona - 13

Koke, Atletico Madrid - 13

Carlos Vela, Real Sociedad - 12

Gareth Bale, Real Madrid - 12

Markel Susaeta, Athletic Bilbao - 12

Lionel Messi, Barcelona - 11

Alexis Sánchez, Barcelona - 10

Ivan Rakitic, Sevilla FC - 10

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid - 9

Look at the names on that list, even in a more one sided league the cream is going to rise to the top and it's no coincidence that nearly all names on that list are household names in the world of football.

I do understand the point you are making but I don't thin you can downplay Fabregas's contribution in that Barca side, despite allegedly being surplus to requirements he still managed more assist and goals than Xavi and Ineista did this season (combined).

...................Costa...............

Hazard......................Willian

......Fabregas......Ramires....

...................Matic................

LB........Terry....Cahill.....Azpi

Now that is a proper 4-3-3. With everyone, most notably Ramires, in their best position. I'd still want to see the 4-2-3-1 though but for a long time we've not had the right kind of midfielders for it.

I'm always fascinated by the potential partnerships down the flanks. Can you imagine how much destruction Hazard, Fabregas and say Shaw/Felipe would cause down the left?

Dont particularly like the guy but hes a cracking player.

Taking into consideration Coles and Franks departures, we now have only 2 HG players in the team if im not mistaken. Terry and Cahill. Fabregas classifies as homegrown, which is a big deal. I mean Pogba is HG as well but IMO Fabregas to Chelsea is much more likelier than Pogba to Chelsea

Never saw what the fuss was about with Fiberglass.

He excelled at an average team (Arsenal) and won hardly anything at all. Overrated, don't want him, next.

His stats from Barca look decent but he's never been very impressive for them since leaving Arsenal. Having said that, if he can play t his potential and to the form he showed at Arsenal he'd be a hell of a signing.

My nagging worry is that - like a lot of players who establish themselves very young (he was a regular at 17) - he might be past his best at 27. If he isn't, and he's still got a lot left in the tank, he could be brilliant for us.

The lad has got 87 caps for the best National team in the world.

I'm drawing interesting parallels between this and Shaw. Some are after Shaw because he is a Chelsea supporter and ignoring he is massively overpriced, I'm sure others are rejecting Fabregas purely because he played for Arsenal (and is a bit of a c**t) and overlooking that he is phenomenal value for the player he is (reported at the same value as Shaw). He also counts as homegrown.

Koke and Rakitic are likely to fetch a similar amount of money without anywhere near the record that Fabregas has. This isn't an injured Torres for 50m, this is a good player with great creative ability for a pretty reasonable price in today's market (less than Willian as a comparison)

And? Rooney has 88 England caps and has been utter sh*te for his country. But he plays very well for United.

At club level, he hasn't been all that. He has been used as a sub for Barcelona most of the time.

Where has Fabregas generally been played at barca?

My main concern with this would be is that he may not really fit the bill for the position we are really after, i.e. a partner for Matic in the pivot (presumably).

Does he not generally play a more advanced role?

2011/2012 Season, 28 league appearances, 5 as sub. 9 goals and 8 assists.

2012/2013 Season, 32 league appearances, 2 as sub.  11 goals and 11 assists.

2013/2014 Season, 36 league appearances, 8 as sub. 8 goals and 13 assists.

He's started the majority of games in each of his three seasons there and chipped in with a respectable number of goals and assists.

If the reports are true that he has already spoken with Jose and is convinced to join them then its very exciting. I've always liked Cesc.

£30m for a home grown, available, proven, world class midfielder should be a no brainer. I hope the club are moving fast on the transfer.

I am not sure if I an get on board with referring to him as 'Cesc' just yet....

Just saying :)

I know I sound spoilt but we've lost 3 fantastic players recently in Luiz, Lampard and Cole so I'm absolutely desperate for some positive news before to WC in terms of incoming players. Just one will ease the mind!

England aren't Spain though.

And he'll come here and do a Torres, because the way we play "doesn't work for him".

The only silver lining would be seeing the rage on the Arsenal supporters' faces if he signs for us.

Rooney burst onto the world scene with Euro 2004 he was player of the tournament before he got injured. Since then he's kind of lived off that run however I think he's a player that has to play because he sacrfices a lot for hard work.

Anyway back onto Fabregas, if he has spoken to Mourinho and is coming then fine but he has to work hard if he comes here. I don't want a player that doesn't want to be here joining up with our squad.

How do u know what style we will play next season? How do u know it wouldn't work for Fabregas?

What would be your alternative? I'd love pogba/koke/vidal, but all would be more expensive, and less likely.

That is quite an assumption to be fair, nothing really to suggest that will happen.

I'm mates with Mourinho, didn't you know?

True, but it might
