Cesc Fabregas

Featured Replies

Cesc is at his best when played deep, he's nowhere near as effective when he's played further forward. The problem is that when Cesc has played deeper he's been put in a 2 man midfield for the majority of the time, he isn't great defensively and doesn't get around the pitch quickly, he needs protection to be at his best

Pirlo thrived even into his 30s because he always had protection and wasn't expected to help defend, at Juventus he had the likes of Pogba, Marchisio and Vidal around him

Brilliantly put. Reasons why I feel that we need midfielders who are both physical and technical like Koke. In Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Pedro we have too many light weights and while they will try hard, they can not give the same level of protection that say a Ballack can give.

I was suprised when we didn't add another central midfielder last summer, because we were struggling in alot of games after christmas and Matic was at that time in a far better form. I think we need to go back to 4-3-3 with three central midfielders, two of them have to be physical and technical like Koke, Vidal, Nainggolan, Kante etc. and Fabregas/RLC(Pogba v2) has to be the third.

Surprising stat for me was the one that showed cesc has been most influential midfielder, touches, passes etc, in the league since the turn of the year

Just watching him play, you see how he is the orchestrator of all our play everything goes through Cesc, no wonder he has such amazing passing stats, but  he apparently has all his career...

If you missed Cesc tonight, you missed a cracker, always liked him as a player, even his spats with Lamps, but what an immensely knowledgable chap, a bit of a man crush for the wee spanish maestro blooming i fear....

We all know how those end...

Nice to see that from Cesc tonight. He's unfairly slated in my view, i think partially because he's not the most physical player (ie doesn't run as much as we might expect) I remember the same criticisms of Ballack.

Supported by more energy in midfield, i think he can take us back where we belong next season.

Very impressed with him since Jose left. He's been honest, he seems to have shouldered a lot of the responsibility of leading this team and his performances have picked up. I don't think he was one of the main culprits for what happened this year, for me that falls on players like Costa and Hazard who were wholly unprofessional in the way they approached this season, and I think he suffered from having a lack of targets for his passes.

Going forward I would love to see Costa build around him like he did with Pirlo at Juventus. Let Cesc dictate the play and have midfielders either side of him to cover his weaknesses/do his running and defending.

Most of all I'd be inclined to give him the captain's armband which is something I wouldn't have said six months ago. If John Terry isn't here then I'd also move Ivanovic and Mikel on which leaves us with no clear choices.

He needs to be part of a midfield 3, him alongside a DM just isn't working, he even admitted he can't defend and he's supposed to be half of the protection for the back 4.

Put players like Nainggolan and Vidal (or even Loftus-Cheek in the long-term because he's not a 10) either side of him, have them be his minders/runners and let Fabregas just ping balls around the park all day. Build the team around him.

Last season Cesc worked in a 4231 because Matic was playing at an unbelievably high level. Mikel simply can't do that on anything approaching a consistent basis so why we haven't moved to a conventional 433 I don't know.

It says something when a dominant Under-18s team shows more tactical flexibility than a struggling first-team.

You got  to be kidding ?

Probably the softest and laziest player in the league.

I'm sure I could dig up stats on the distance he covers in a match or the number of touches that he has per match or even the surprisingly high number of tackles he makes (or yellows he picks up) but ultimately I'd be asking the same question.

If JT goes, who else is there?

I completely agree, no one in this team i'd rather give the armband to than Cesc.
