My idea would be to buy someone good who actually plays that position.

Well that would be ideal yes but that did not go so well in  the summer and it does not help us now so in case we mess up in January I was looking at other alternatives conte could try.

Victor Moses was an average striker, poor often as a winger but boy he made a difference for us as a wing back. Hands up how many of us saw that coming?

Time to try see how willian does as a lwb I feel. His technique is better than Moses and he has as much if not more energy and pace. Got to be worth a go surely as we have no Alonso alternatives.

Conte has seen him on the training ground, and has clearly come to the conclusion he doesn't have the skillset to do it. The fact Pedro's played there a fair bit but Willian hasn't once says everything you need to know.

He was on for 17 minutes -FFS get a grip on reality, he wasn't a " Big reason why we didn't win, very poor."

He was pants, I'll give you that, but let's be a little bit sensible, shall we?

He clearly was a big reason we didn't win. He missed a guilt edged opportunity which was even easier than Morata's, he missed a very simple pass to put Pedro clean through on goal and then also missed another opportunity to put Batman through on goal as well.

Others missed opportunities as well, but if Hazard/Pedro had been on the edge of those chances or moments that Willian had, we would have won the game. Period.

I'm a very optimistic supporter when it comes to defending our players but sometimes Willian gets a massive by because I think he's seen as a bit of a cult hero due to the Spurs transfer debacle. Has to go in the summer. Keep Pedro as a squad player and upgrade on Willian.

He clearly wasn't.  But don't let the facts get in the way of a good moan about the current scapegoat.  Game should have been well won before he even took his tracksuit off.

Nice to have a player like Willian who could seamlessly fit in the starting 11, even he's not an automatic pick anymore. He's not going to get to the next level, but out of every 10 games he play, he'd give 7/10 in 7-8 of them, we need the consistency in a long season. I'd keep him in the next 12-18 months unless we get a definite upgrade over him, which won't come easy.

And Hazard gave it straight to Willian, because he knows something about football and how it's played.

Hazard joking around like usual. He would have done it to whichever player was stood next to him. He also said we are back in contention with City for the league title after this win. The lad knows how to have fun. Or perhaps we are genuine title contenders now that someone who knows something about football has said it??

Willian was my MOTM. He had a major part in the game last night. He's constantly getting stick on here, so when he plays well it's only right it's acknowledged.

His physical condition and technique is always good and he's always ready to play. The only issue was decision making, I think he's calmed down a bit and starting to do the right things with the ball, not trying to impress too much and playing his natural game.

I also like the last 2 post match interviews with him and Hazard, it looks like he's giving Willian a lot of moral support.

Some players are meant to be subs, and some are not. If we keep Willian on the bench and demand him to go in and deliver a game changer performance - he is not doing it. He needs time, rhythm and lot's of combination to get himself into the game. Once he's done this, he is close to world class player. But if Conte doesn't think to make him a starter again, then we better keep Pedro than him. The spanish is better substitute.

Close to world class :laugh2:

If there is one player I believe can score these days it is him. He had for sure a bad start to the season but would now consider him as one of the most important. Hazard and William is like playing with 2 nr. 10.

PMSL.

Willian's best season as a Chelsea player was last year under Conte when he was nothing more than an impact sub. He would score most games he came on. He doesn't offer enough to be starting games but coming on against tired legs is perfect.

  • 2 weeks later...

One thing about William is he is one of the few players who can receive the ball under pressure and not lose it. His work-rate has dropped a lot recently but I still trust him to hold onto the ball similar to Hazard.

Hazard, Kante, Alonso,

Then Moses and Morata too, you could argue.

The rest seem to be poor at this.

Pedro especially.
