Willian

So Lamps, Ross and Azpi have all said that Barkley is the designated penalty taker when on the pitch. So what was Willian moaning about exactly?

He wasn't even really moaning. He was just standing there, by the penalty spot, making a silent protest. It was dreadful. There's been a few occasions where he's shown questionable attitude and yesterday was definitely another, in my opinion.

And if true, why didn't Azpi intervene to get Willian out of there?

Another selfish gesture by Willian.  We play with 10 men when he is on the field.

Barkley says that the sheet in the changing room has him on PK's with Jorginho 2nd.  Willian has admitted to trying to take the PK off him.  If the sheet in the dressing room has two (at least) PK takers on it ahead of Willian, what in the world is Willian doing anywhere near the spot in that situation?

If he’d scored from that lovely ball Kovacic played over the top for him we’d be raving about him. He did so well to bring it down the toe-poked it like a 4 year old would.

I feel sorry for Kovacic, that ball was absolutely beautiful.

Remember when Morata complained that teammates had stopped passing to him?  How long before teammates stopping passing to Willian?

He's like a black hole.  Balls go in, but they don't come out.

They're still passing to him 7 years later, doubt it'll ever stop because they'll just get moaned at by him that they didn't give him another chance to f**k up.

I believe he has an ego that his talent simply cannot keep up with. For all his years with us he has been in the shadow of Eden, desperately looking on to the type of player he could only dream of being.

But this season is his chance to shine through, Eden has gone, now Willian can be the star of the Chelsea show. What is this though, he gets an injury and when he gets back everyone is talking about these Chelsea kids and the focus is once more away from Willian, now Mount and Abraham are the opening acts stars.

That could explain why he barely passed to Tammy and tried his Hollywood runs and passes/shots, then threw his arms up in the air to blame everyone expect himself with they led to zip all.

Imagine the Willian reaction if that had been Pedro not passing to him?

That grumpy ass frown 😆😆

I will give him this though, never known anybody who can frown like that and make his fro frown at the same time.

He’s sh*te man. Along with Alonso & Barkley. Get rid at the end of the season. Nothing to do with last night’s game either They’re just not very good.

Willian’s main role as a forward is to score and assist goals. He does neither.

Barkley’s main role as an attacking mid is to score goals and more importantly create goals. He does neither.

Alonso’s main role as a defender is to defend. He can’t defend.

Did anyone really think he'd put that away? He can't score goals. He can't pass the ball.

I can make a defence about every player in our squad, but I don't know how to defend an attacking player who can't score or assist.

It happened right in front of me at the shed end and I didn’t think he’d even get on the end of it or control it. When he actually did the hard bit I did feel like it was already in the back of the net. I think he got caught between going for a volley and trying to chip it over the keeper.

What a goal that would have been!

Willian looked our best offensive player the other night.

Good to see him putting in a shift yet notice it is a while since he tried this hard.

I read a comment on-line from a news outlet suggesting he was angling for a 1-year contract extension.

Does this explain his upturn in form, I don't know.

When is in form his driving runs from midfield put the opposition on the backfoot, that might come in handy against Liverpool on Sunday.

I think he’s done his 5min. of driving runs for this season. He’ll spend the rest of this year working on his ‘ arms up, frown’ routine.

Will it though? Because we didn't score on Tuesday. So what good did his driving runs do?

He's a player who looks great but does little. There are few (I'd like to wager none) players in world football who have had the career he has had, in the position be plays, with so little end product. If you play in that role, runs get you nowhere, it's about end product.

Willian's runs means the opposition need to hold back an extra midfielder allowing someone like Kovacic to have more time to exploit the space in the middle.

We are currently short of offensive players due to injuries so for me he plays and while Mount is out I would like to see Pulisic play too.

Willlian down the right is like Moses under Conte except Willian is marginally better with crossing and bringing others into play.

It used to be that he could delivery a free kick (and occasional goal).  Can't even do that anymore...….

And why he is allowed to continue to take corner kicks is a mystery.

The most frustrating thing for me about Willian is that he is clearly talented, he has a decent touch, fast feet, incredible pace alongside dribbling ability. If we go back a few years you would say he was streets ahead of players such as Mane, Salah, Sterling & Son yet all those players have improved and left Willian well behind and all have a case of being genuinely world class. Would you say they had more ability than Willian, I certainly wouldnt but you can clearly see that they have worked hard on harnessing there game especially in areas where they can have maximum impact.

Regardless of how well he does this season I dont think he justifies an extension to his contract, its fairly obvious that at times his effort is completely half arsed & I would much rather have a player who is limited in ability yet gives his all than someone who is clearly talented yet has the audacity to give anything less than 100%.

I was a huge fan of Willian and believed that Willians stats were mainly down to Hazard playing in his preferred position and Willian was just fulfilling his role in order to accommodate Hazard however he has had plenty of opportunities over the last couple of seasons and things haven't really improved.

Until Mount, Pulisic and CHO are firing on all cylinders we need to have Willian as an option.

He is nearing the end of his sell by date so if we extend his contract it should only be to increase his resale value.

Pedro is heading in the same direction but maybe another season.

Given the ban and injuries I would say it is a players market and give him the contract extension, should he be surplus to requirements at the end of the season then look to recoup the fees by selling.

It would appear to be short sighted to me to deny him a contract extension of just one year when we need him.

This alone discredits absolutely any mazy dribbles, that lead to absolutely nothing, throughout the game.

How on earth he didn't play this in I have no idea, an experienced player should always play that in.

This is the reason why he doesn't get as many goals/assists as he's supposed to, those moments are crucial.

Isn't that half the problem with Willian? How often do we see him get past his man, make a good run etc. only for him to spoon his shot over the bar, make a poor pass in or around the box, make the decision?

He's just not very clinical.

Once CHO is fully fit and Pulisic has found his feet I don't see Willian getting much of a look in.
