December 24, 201411 yr Schurrle does the same defensive work as Willian does? I've heard it all now There isn't a midfielder in the league who does what Willian does, apart from Oscar.... See this is what bemused me, there is almost a myth being created about how much defensive work Willian does, he does no more than anyone else in the team, he might be better at it but that doesn't mean he works harder for the side. I see Hazard tracking back just as much as Willian but because he does his best work at the other end of the pitch we don't feel the need to talk about it.
December 24, 201411 yr The crazy thing is, we paid 2 million less for willian, than arsenal paid for sanchez. Edited December 24, 201411 yr by enigma
December 24, 201411 yr I think Willian is doing alright, he has quick feet and can accelerate away from players; sure he has to work on some things but so does Shirley...nothing between them really it just depends who we are playing. I expect Shirley to start on Boxing Day.
December 24, 201411 yr The crazy thing is, we paid 2 million less for willian, than arsenal paid for sanchez. And for that Sanchez is already twice the player Willian is and ever going to be(by the looks so far).
December 24, 201411 yr And for that Sanchez is already twice the player Willian is and ever going to be(by the looks so far). No need for such exaggeration.
December 24, 201411 yr And for that Sanchez is already twice the player Willian is and ever going to be(by the looks so far). And yet some how arsenal are wise then they were last season
December 24, 201411 yr And yet some how arsenal are wise then they were last season Nothing to do with Sanchez. He's not a defender or defensive midfielder. He's done the job asked of him very well.
December 24, 201411 yr I think Willian is doing pretty much exactly what he was bought to do, no complaints from me.
December 24, 201411 yr And for that Sanchez is already twice the player Willian is and ever going to be(by the looks so far).no he isn't, and if asked to do the defensive duties expected of our players who knows if Sanchez would do well for us
December 24, 201411 yr no he isn't, and if asked to do the defensive duties expected of our players who knows if Sanchez would do well for us To be fair, if anybody can match Willian for defensive work rate it is Sanchez. The guy has an engine like Ramires. It's a shame he wasn't available last season, we may have gone for him instead of Willian. Who knows, we may have even won the league. December 24, 201411 yr Willian lacks Sanchez's 'killer' instinct, Schurrle's directness, and his decision making at times is suspect - but like others I'm happy with Willian's contribution and don't think he did as badly against Stoke as some seem to be suggesting (i.e. when pressed he retained possession more often than not). Messi, Reus, or Milner at a stretch are the only players who I think could improve the squad in his position. Edited December 24, 201411 yr by the special one

It's a shame he wasn't available last season, we may have gone for him instead of Willian. Who knows, we may have even won the league. i agree he has a great work ethic and there's every chance he would fit right into our team. There's also a chance he would struggle with the intensity needed from our attackers when we don't have the ball. He is better than willian, currently. Willian is having a bad spell, without doubt. But he has shown in the recent past he is certainly good enough for a place in our team.

Messi, Reus, or Milner at a stretch are the only players who I think could improve the squad in his position. If those are the only players you can think of then you don't know many right wingers. Also, why pick Milner ? he offers no more of a threat going forward than Willian does.

I expect Shirley to start on Boxing Day. You're right, Willian does have quick feet and can accelarate past players, but he rarely ever uses those traits effectively.
December 24, 201411 yr Its almost like on this forum you can only like one of Schurrle or Willian. I rate both players. Beatles or Rolling Stones The Jam or The Clash Blur or Oasis (having to put aside that Damon is Chelsea and the gallagher boys are City fans!) Durran Durran or Spandau Ballet (Um, neither actually - both sh*te!) Schurrle or Willian...................... Right now I would have to say Schurrle. I do think Willian has the better all round game but he is getting continually more frustrating to watch. He had a complete shocker against Stoke and Schurrle gave us a lot more for the time he was on and seems to now be over the illness issues he had. That said, Schurrle does seem to be one of those players who does better coming off the bench. So I would start Willian against West Ham and bring on Schurrle at the 10 minute mark.................
December 24, 201411 yr If those are the only players you can think of then you don't know many right wingers. Also, why pick Milner ? he offers no more of a threat going forward than Willian does. I could reel of a list of right wingers, but the point is (other than those already mentioned) who would actually be an improvement over Willian? It comes down to horses for courses at the end of the day - I think Schurrle is better suited against teams that park the bus (even though right wing isn't his natural position) whereas Willian gives more to the team when we're looking to retain possession and control the game. Given the choice i'd like to see Sanchez in the team over Willian - but the fact is he's at Arsenal and the ship has sailed. I think Willian gets a lot of criticism because he tends to try a risky through ball or flick instead of just playing it safe - Milner tends to look for the simple option. I'm not saying Milner is 'better' than Willian but in my view would be a good fit irrespective of tactics. Edited December 24, 201411 yr by the special one
December 24, 201411 yr Beatles or Rolling Stones The Jam or The Clash Blur or Oasis (having to put aside that Damon is Chelsea and the gallagher boys are City fans!) If the ones in bold are your preferences then I'm going to have to disagree with you on all three, especially about The Clash!

Milner offers far more of a threat going forward than Willian. Please see him play. Look at the stats as well. He's much better than Willian. http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/james_milner/126/126/84/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/willian/126/126/7145/0/p#total_score/chances_created/key_passes/assists/total_forward_passes/shot_accuracy#total
December 24, 201411 yr If the ones in bold are your preferences then I'm going to have to disagree with you on all three, especially about The Clash! Stones were over-rated (and should have called it a day a long time ago. I like Blur but they're a bit too art school boys. And as good as The Clash were, The Jam were just my whole life (along with CFC) back in 78-82. It's a Mod thing!
December 24, 201411 yr Sanchez is basically an improved Willian: great workrate and questionable decision-making at times, but he can score.
December 24, 201411 yr It made spurs look like mugs. Bargain of the decade. Sometimes I wonder if you were sent here to defend everything about the club.
