February 22, 201610 yr Another good performance yesterday. I'm thoroughly impressed with his form so far. Hopefully he can keep it up till the end of the season. Go ahead and prove them wrong, Mikel Fans applaud loud for his performance. I like it. ;)
February 22, 201610 yr MIKEL “From day one, since Guus has come in, the atmosphere has changed,” Mikel said. “The players feel more relaxed, people know what their jobs are and people are getting on with their jobs in a more relaxed way. And a way they can perform very well. “He has given responsibility to people and expects them to thrive on it and make sure they do it in way where they feel comfortable. I think that is what the players are showing now. “When you come into the training ground, the players are more relaxed, he doesn’t get into people’s business, he gets on with his own thing and players feel very comfortable and know exactly what to do so when he gets on the training pitch, he doesn’t need to speak. “We all know what he wants and it is the same when we go into a game.”
February 22, 201610 yr ^^^ Sounds like Mourinho was micro managing the whole team to a point of where they got totally fed up
February 22, 201610 yr Presented without comment Last season, Mikel played 870 minutes in the league. This season, he's played 675 minutes in NINE league games under Hiddink.
February 22, 201610 yr ^^^ Sounds like Mourinho was micro managing the whole team to a point of where they got totally fed up Of course Mikel is happier, he's playing now. But I don't think it's all sunshine and roses for us as a team, our league form hasn't been that great since Guus come in. We've drawn far too many games and I think Guus being just an interim with no ambition of staying beyond the end of the season probably explains his relaxed attitude.

Seen same attitude with Carlo when we are in a two horse race for the title. Being calm is different from being relaxed.
February 22, 201610 yr Seen same attitude with Carlo when we are in a two horse race for the title. Being calm is different from being relaxed. Isn't it just about different managerial styles then? Calmer does not necessarily equal better. Some players will probably respond better to intense environments and others better to a more relaxed one. Just a case of letting a manager build a squad best suited to their methods.

February 22, 201610 yr From my infomations he played 693min last season in the premiere league. You're right, my mistake. Think I put down how many minutes he's played in total THIS season. Cheers. 697 minutes (according to whoscored) last season. 675 minutes in 9 games under Guus. Edited February 22, 201610 yr by ShedEnder91

Don't get all that but I meant Guus displaying same type of attitude as Carlo even when it was a two horse race back in '10.
February 22, 201610 yr Mikel comments says a lot no matter how long Jose was kept nothing would have changed
February 22, 201610 yr Didn't Mikel also state, during an interview recently, that Jose wasn't even talking to the players at the end of his tenure? I also hear similar sound bytes coming from LVG as were coming from Jose at the end of his tenure. Things like "I can only prepare the players" "it is up to the players to implement my philosophy" etc.
February 22, 201610 yr Mikels comments mean nothing, it's just one player who wasn't playing who is playing now
February 22, 201610 yr Mikels comments mean nothing, it's just one player who wasn't playing who is playing now nothing? absolutely nothing? suuuuure....
February 22, 201610 yr nothing? absolutely nothing? suuuuure.... Not really, he wasn't ever going to say anything bad was he. Terrible manager that Hiddink, I only play every minute now.
February 22, 201610 yr Mikel comments says a lot no matter how long Jose was kept nothing would have changed For Mikel.
February 22, 201610 yr For Mikel.Nothing would have changed as the results had shown the players stopped responding no matter how you swing it spin Jose would not have turned this around its no coincidence as soon as he left we stopped losing we have scored 10 goals in two home matches when was the last time that happened?I too wanted him to stay but the reality of it we would probably in a worst position now with him still in charge. I don't wear Jose tinted shades I tell it like i see it. Edited February 22, 201610 yr by Brutos
March 16, 201610 yr How will he cope under Conte? The new guy certainly isn't as relaxed as Hiddink which might ruin Mikel's chill, but also if we're looking at dynamic box-to-box midfielders and a higher intensity game where does that leave Mikel?
March 16, 201610 yr He'll finally fulfil his destiny as the black Pirlo. So does that mean that we could possibly have a Chelsea-Liverpool match featuring the 'Black Pirlo' vs the 'Welsh Pirlo'? Exciting times.
March 16, 201610 yr If Conte gets rid of him then I hope Conte is ready for the stick he’s going to get from every ball boy in the country who is going to end up redundant. Mikel has an important role in grass roots football, he is an important and probably an even more successful resource than our youth academy. Barca have la maisa academy, united have the class of 92 and we have the Mikel Upper Shed. Well done Mikel.

Ahhhh, the real reason for the stadium expansion.....Roman was losing too much money on wayward footballs going on the Kings Road lol
March 19, 201610 yr If Conte gets rid of him then I hope Conte is ready for the stick he’s going to get from every ball boy in the country who is going to end up redundant. If we had 11 Mikels the ball would never go out of play, although in all fairness every single game would be 0-0.
March 24, 201610 yr Reports that Mikel is considering a move to China at the end of the season. Been a decent player for us this season compared to a lot of the others, valuable squad player. But if the Chinese come in and offer silly money, maybe we should bid him farewell. Edited March 24, 201610 yr by Blue Exile
