Definitely Chelsea's greatest FA Cup goal ever IMO

...at new wembley!

old or new our record there is great, think we scored last goal at old & first at the new wembley. quickest at both after yesterday?..drogba most goals?

now we have the best goals at both!

Don't forget Lampard's free kick!

I thought the criticism Matic got was harsh, he did a good job covering for defenders, especially Ake who got caught out a few times. Without him our defence would have fallen apart.

Yeah done great spotting the danger of Erikson and closing him down for the 2nd goal. Just jogged around like his not with it.

Absolute shadow of his former self.  May well be down to other teams figuring him out, but we need a better presence in midfield.

Terrific goal, thought his one against Everton was just as good though.

In terms of goals at Wembley, didn't Drogba score a ripper against Everton, some swiveling volley ?  Also, I know it was community shield, but I loved Lampard's pass to Shevchenko and that goal.

Matic had a good game even without that goal. Spurs scored two terrific goals but otherwise Courtois didn't have to make a save until injury time. Matic must take some of the credit for restricting their attack, no?

Not gonna lie i thought he was a bit of dead weight that game until the goal.

i agree. kante runs around a lot because he's the best runner ever seen on a football pitch. it works more often that not (because kante is a bonafide freak), but if kante fails to break up play, he has left an acre of space behind him. you cannot have both of your midfield players do that (and we only play with 2 central midfield players, so...). matic makes up for his lack of leg speed by clogging up passing lanes through the middle of the pitch with his ichabod legs and positioning himself very well to take the first sting out of oppositions counter attack.

the difference in how we stopped counter attacks against spuds and how they did it was striking (we were never really in danger, where as spuds didn't seem to know what to do when countered on), and matic is very good at clogging up the dangerous areas the opposing team will counter in.

you could talk football tactics until you're blue in the face, but with that being said, it is pretty simple for me.

1) conte has showed to be ruthless enough to drop vaning regulars/'favorites' (oscar, terry, ivanovic, i would add fabregas as well)
2) we are in contention and probably favorites for the double

so knowing that 1) conte has dropped previous 'undroppables' (ie. not scared of dropping players he thinks doesn't do a job) and 2) we are looking to have one of our best seasons ever after one of our worst in 20-25 years, the proof really is in the pudding.

matic must be doing something correct in contes mind or else he would have been dropped, and conte probably deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Regarding the last point i think its more keeping faith with players from the beginning of the season than how players like Matic and Costa are playing at the moment and thats fair enough. Costa won't get dropped when he isnt just scoring but is playing awful. I'm not joking but Costa is that bad Terry would do more up front by holding up the ball and putting his body on the line.

Think that Drogba goal was at goodison? Can't wait for the final. Love the FA cup...boro, Villa, Leeds..4-2 vialli Hughes. Wolves, Luton...utd/Ellery...peacock. Great days. Come on Chelsea

I understand that you're talking about FA Cup but just to say that neither the last goal at the old Wembley, nor the first goal at the new Wembley, were scored by Chelsea. The last and first FA Cup Final goals were, but not the last and first outright.

Robbie Di Matteo's goal will stand forever as the quickest goal at the old Empire Stadium but a quicker goal has been scored under the arch. It was scored against Chelsea, not by us.

I know Saha got the quickest against us in the 2009 final when we played Everton. Not sure about first and last goals though, think the first goal under the arch was an England game. Might be wrong though

i know Terry got the first full international goal though at the new Wembley

Yes, Saha's goal, after 25 seconds of the 2009 final, is the fastest goal yet scored at the new Wembley.

The last goal was scored by a now retired Liverpool player. Any guesses?

The first goal at the new stadium is a bit more complicated, with two possible claimants of the honour. One is an ex Crystal Palace player, the other bagged his strike for Italy U21's. Mega kudos to anyone who knows both. (I knew that these two goals had been scored before Didier's little dink in the 2007 final, but I had to look up the names of the scorers.)

Yes, Didi Hamann scored the last goal under the twin towers thanks to a big helping hand from David Seaman.
