Matic

If that's the last time I ever seen Matic in a Chelsea shirt it'll be too soon.

He should never be near our starting 11 again, he's so far below where he was when he first re-signed for us it's scary.

Of all the times to slip back into poor Matic mode, he picked today. The worst part about his performance was the way he was shying away from tackles. For me, that is the worst thing you can see from a player, it's the clearest sign of a lack of commitment. It's something you see in friendlies, not in f**king cup finals. You give everything for the team, you put your body on the line, you expect a few bruises after the game. Matic is big and strong but is like a wimp on the field at times. Fabregas is smaller and weaker than Matic but you would never see him back out of a tackle for us. The Matic from Benfica and his first 2 season's with us was never like this.

Then you had his poor reaction times, playing at a slow tempo, lack of awareness and sloppy passes........it was the worst of Matic from last season all in one game.

Needs to be sold to the highest bidder. Absolutely sh*t. Not sure how he has managed to start most games for us this season. He just makes the entire team look sh*t when he plays and makes the occasional sh*t performance by the team even worse. We'd be pummeled in the CL if we start with him. Lump of nonsense these days. There's a lot of work that needs to be done on this team.

He's been poor for most of the season for me and I even think you're being generous giving him 2 full seasons of quality, 18 months tops in my eyes. He's beyond a passanger when he's poor, at least Fabregas has that bit of magic to create something out of nothing when Matic is poor he offers less than nothing.

Losing 50/50s to tiny players, making passes 10 seconds late and generally slowing down our play massively, shying away from tackles despite being one of the biggest and strongest men on the pitch, losing possession unnecessarily and breaking down our composure, I mean I can go on and on. And it's not just this game. We need to get rid of him this summer.

Today was the last straw with Matic.

too many times he's hopeless as opposed to being capable. He's never looked like recapturing the firm we saw in his first 8 months of his return, he's been poor longer than he was good.

I would only retain him if he was a bench option for rotation in certain games. You know as soon as he gets one or two touches how his game is going to pan out and it's utterly frustrating because managers seem to leave him on far too long despite the signs.

we need to cash in and replace with someone who can improve and isn't powderpuff/scared on the ball. I don't know who but surely the work should have been done over this season to identify such a player.

He's been vital for us this season and you got to be thankful for that. He was very, very good in many league-games. He sometimes gets these games where nothing works and today was one of them unfortunatly. Don't think he should be sold but we clearly needs to buy midfield-reinforcements as well.

When Matic is on form he is a powerful, disruptive, anchoring player.  When he is not on form (like today) he is pedestrian, frustrating and very very very poor on the ball.  Although everyone was dreadful today (except Pedro) he stood out.

He was a breath of fresh air when he came back, maybe that was partly down to the fact we had Mikel, ramires, and David luiz in there, all of which have frustrating flaws in their games.

since the team has improved around him, he looks a much worse player, So slow in the ball, really poor awareness at times, and for the size him, he doesn't dominant physically.

he's been okay if not spectacular this season, I still think he is a useful squad player, but he's not good enough to be keeping fabregas on the bench for me.

Wouldn't say our Midfield is Dog sh*t but Matic alone isn't far off, if there has been one weak link this season is probably has to be him.. His passing today aswell as most of the season was quite pathetic and his lack of pace really does get us into some trouble on counters.

Bakayoko seems the most touted replacement not seen too much of him but he looks far more athletic than Matic which we are crying out for.

From what i have seen of Bakayoko, there is nothing to get excited about.

Stuck up for him a lot for past two seasons but that was a pretty unforgivable performance...everyone can have a sh*t game but to me it looked like his heart just wasn't in it...played like a guy who doesn't want to be at the club any more...given all the talk about us signing Bakayoko and Utd wanting Matic, he did little to counter suggestion that both Chelsea or himself want to part ways

Sell him off to Mourinho who wants him.  Otherwise, the risk of him being another Mikel becomes greater.  Unfit to be playing even for Stoke or West Brom.

I actually wouldn't mind him being another Mikel. Meaning someone who won't mind being a backup, won't create tension in the dressing room and will perform adequately when called upon.

This guy had a terrible terrible game. I haven't watched the game back but did Matic run into Kantes path when he was on the counter losing us possession  which immediately led to Arsenals opener? Jheeez you know its bad when people who watched on t.v. and those in the stadium knew he had a terrible game.

I almost never watch highlights of games we lose so I'm probably never going to confirm that but I think that's correct.

I'd rather free up his wages. I doubt he'd want to sit on the bench for 90% of the season too.

I don't see anything in Matic's game that  Nathaniel Chalobah couldn't do better. I think he makes the team to give us some physical presence ... we are quite a small team these days (Dave,  Moses, Kante, Hazard, Pedro).

I see people say this a lot (if you're referring to Matic) and I think they say it purely based on his height because for a big guy he could get dominated by my gran. He rately wins headers, barely puts in a tackle.

Marco Verrati for instance - tiny guy, but an absolute monsterous presence on the park, all over the place flying in to tackles, getting stuck in to the opposition sometimes cynically, but that's what you want in a midfielder someone who battes. If you don't have that ala Fabregas you need to bring something else to the party i.e. Brilliant on the ball. Matic brings nothing other than being tall.

He did have a terrible game but no that was Costa who pre-goal was also crap.
