Official Kit banned in sportdirect from next year

Featured Replies

My boys will be disappointed but if the club aren't going to let the cheapest retailer on the highstreet sell the kit them I'm boycotting it.  They'll have to make do with some of the training wear in future.

I fukin hate our club at times

The news comes as Sports Direct chief executive Dave Forsey refused to defend his company’s decision to employ 90 per cent of its staff on controversial zero-hours contracts, while reporting that pre-tax profits jumped 14.3 per cent to £143.1 million in the six months to the end of October.

Forsey said Adidas’s decision to only sell the kits elsewhere — thought to be the Chelsea shop at its stadium and Adidas stores — was “impossible to understandâ€. He added: “We don’t believe with our football heritage that customers would be happy. We are still voicing our concerns to Adidas and Chelsea, telling them they are potentially alienating their supporters.â€

No mate I don't see it as alienating supporters, I see it as standing up for the people of this country regardless of who they support. Well done Adidas I'm proud to have my team sponsored by you!

Zero hour contracts are nothing short of employing slaves. The fact that they are allowed in England is nothing short of sickening. I understand the necessity of them in some employments but they are being abused (big shock) by large corperations. Nice to see a multi-national corporation such as Adidas showing a sense of morality, although i'm sure they have their own abuses going on with underpaid workers overseas. I truely hope not though.

But the zero hours contract thing isn't related to this decision, otherwise Adidas would have refused for any other their replica kits to be sold by Sports Direct (including Ashley's very own Newcastle) but apparently it is just Chelsea's kits.

If you actually think this is a big moral stand by Adidas for employees rights in the UK then you are incredibly deluded. This is a company who outsources their production to some of the most deprived places in the world because they can pay the workers peanuts.

This is about higher margins and nothing else.

Exactly.

The £17 sale is probably what done it. I mean I picked up the full kit for half the price of the RRP for the shirt in November. In basic economics, the demand for the shirt is pretty inelastic, meaning whatever the price, we are still likely to buy it, meaning we're charged a lot for a essientially a t-shirt. (That being said they are pretty durable- when I was a kid I would wear them over 50 times in a year and they would last no problem).

They should make the shirts in kids sizes only, the state of men in football shirts is appalling.

Yeah to be fair, I would be down with that.

I don't wear them out and about, but £17 for a long sleeve Addidas sports top was pretty good for something to wear when playing football or going for a run. I definitely wouldn't have got it this year if it weren't so cheap, but I agree it does look pathetic.

Probably the best one I saw was some overweight Geordie in a Danny Gutherie shirt. He just looked ridiculous.

Surely he wasn't as bad as this guy ?

:shok:

I bought one of our away shirts to wear in the gym when they were on sale for £17, my first one since I was a kid. Not surprisingly it's great for the purpose, lightweight and dries off instantly. I'd never wear it in public under any other circumstances though.

This post is so uninteresting I might just discard it... ah what the hell I've written it now.... *post*

I only wear mine for wheb I'm playing sports like football or cycling. Though I'm always more paranoid of being hit by a car when I've got it on.
