Ok, so in a season where we have seen Mata on the bench more than he's been on the pitch and De Bruyne pretty much anonymous all season, how do we rate Schurrle? The reason I ask is because I seem to have a fairly unpopular opinion on him, that being he is probably our weakest AM/winger. He is a good player yes, but is he really better than somebody like De Bruyne? My answer is no, for me Schurrle loses the ball too much, his crossing/passing much of the time is questionable and the majority of his shots go wayward. The plus side to his game is he is very direct and he is willing to have a shot.

 

Fire away, what are your opinions on Schurrle so far and do you think he has lived up to the hype that came with him?

Guess he can't be that bad if he can get into the German team. I don't think we have seen anywhere near his potential yet, he is still very young learning his craft; like Mata he will have to work hard to make the first team....a good bench warmer for me so far, will get better next year.  As for KDB, he'll be gone this transfer window more than likely on loan back to Germany unless someone makes a good offer.

i think he is a very good player. dont think he had a lot of hype around him when he joined, and he's been an under-the-radar type of performer. not got the silky skills of hazard/willian, but clearly a very hard worker, a dependable player and he has an eye for goal. i think confidence is a big thing in his game though, as he always looks better when he gets the ball and drives at the full backs. been outshone a little of late with willian really stepping up his performances, but i thought he was one of our best/ most consistent performers in the first 10-15 games of the season

Don't think he's as good as the rest of our guys who play on the wing really. Much prefer Willian + Hazard and KDB was better than him in the Bundesliga last season (so I think he's better although we haven't really seen much from him)

A lot of people raving a bit about KDB but to be completely honest I've not seen anything in a blue shirt to back It up. Got a sniff against Sunderland and was pretty anonymous. Done some good things but can guarentee 100% that Jose was looking for a reaction. When you look at the work rate of the others, which is needed in the modern game, I don't think he can compete. Look at barca and the way the press and I don't believe or at least haven't seen him possess that explosiveness required to press the ball in the first phase like Oscar , Willian, schurlle, hazard.

So getting back to Andre, I believe he will be a top player for us in the future. Still bedding in a bit hopefully

People need to get over this thing with De Bruyne. He's been our poorest AM/Winger this season. Anyway, Schurrle offers us something different compared to the likes of KDB, Mata and Oscar. Strength, pace and width

Been very impressed by him. Hasn't played as much as I would have liked and I think that showed against southampton because he looked rusty.

He looked like a promising signing at first but seems to have fallen out of favour in recent months, (along with Mata, and we all know how good Mata is). I don't think he has played enough football for me to give a fair opinion on him yet, so my slightly unfair opinion is this: disappointing so far, can do better.

I don't know why some people are so obsessed with KDB. Yes, he was good in pre-season and has been pretty good for Belgium - but every time he has been given an opportunity for us he has completely wasted it. Literally been the worst player on the pitch (in our team at least) in every game he has started. People say "He needs a run of games" - Well I say that's bullsh*t, he has been given his chances and he simply has not taken them. 

 

Schurrle is very energetic and puts a shift in defensively, is great going down the wing and is very direct. He also has a pretty mean shot on him. I would take him over KDB any day of the week. 

With players like him not getting regular games under their belt - it's hardtop judge fully. I do like what little I have seen, only game I didn't enjoy seeing him play, was v Man Utd... As a lone striker.

Let's say he's a bad player for Chelsea based off of a few games... yeah alright. Never liked this attitude at all. People act like he's been totally useless too which he hasn't. I worry for our future youngsters (if we ever use them) if they happen to not make an instant or very good impact early on.

Christened Schurrle the new David Hopkin with my tongue partly in cheek earlier in the season but looking increasingly accurate an assessment.

Hope the guy can turn it around but will be more difficult for him as our performances continue to improve without him in the line up.

???? Did you just completely contradict yourself? 

If I am looking at all our 6 options in attacking midfield honestly, I would say:

 

Hazard has been the pick of the bunch, winning us games on his own at times. One of the first names on the big match day team sheet.

Oscar is a very close second. Started the season on fire, had a lull, now seems to be getting back to his best. Like Hazard, near nailed on starter for big games.

Willian started off slowly, but has made himself the 3rd choice when all are available through his sheer work ethic. Starting to show some quality too with the final ball.

Mata has fallen behind the first 3, but is still not playing too badly. Can still create, would have a few more assists if our strikers were not so poor in front of goal. But compared to his past seasons with us, disappointing.

Schurrle is 5th choice. A few good games (City, Stoke spring to mind) but otherwise inconsistent and often toothless. Needs to improve to remain part of Jose's long term plans imo. First season in England though, not going to write him off.

KdB. Huge disappointment. Has not impressed Jose with his attitude or how he trains. This is a big black mark against him for me. Clearly has ability, but is wasting it here so far.

Think a lot on here are being too harsh on the lad. His last start for us in the league (prior to Southampton away) came against stoke. He scored two goals and then was dropped until Southampton. He probably just needs a game or two to kick back into gear, IMO. Underrated player, IMO

I think he will come back from the World Cup vastly improved, same with Oscar and Hazard.

Don't forget that Schürrle was a Chelsea fan just like Willian, which always makes me happy. He has a great attitude and lots of natural ability, maybe just a bit raw right now, like Lukaku. Next season he will be a beast, mark my words.

Lol good point. RVP turned out to be a fake fan after all that. But at least we know Hazard and Mikel hate Man Utd and Willian hates Tottenham Lolz. Who else does our squad hate?

I think Schurrle needs to be starting regularly to show his potential. Unfortunately it seems Willian has that spot nailed down. Which is a shame really, since we saw what he could do against Stoke.

I just hope he doesn't go the way of Marin or KDB.
