Andre Schurrle

I don't understand how in the space of a few months, Alexis Sanchez has gone from Barcelona misfit who couldn't displace the mighty Pedro from their first team to Garrincha reincarnate.

Meanwhile, Cesc is done because he didnt manage to claim a regular starting spot

Nothing really football related, but I follow the German media and Schürrle always says how much he loves Chelsea and wants to stay here and prove himself. It's no trash talk either, but comes across as very genuine. Add to this the observation that he seems to reach a new personal level in terms of the football he delivers, and we might as well have a really exciting player to look forward to for the next couple of years, who might leave the role of a super sub behind him.

Because Pedro is a Catalan that's the only reason. Sanchez is far better than Pedro.

back to Schurrle, im worried at the persistent stories this summer about him leaving. the latest i saw was that he is PSG's number 2 target if they fail to land Di Maria. the boy is brilliant, and i would have him in my starting 11. We just cant let him go, he is too good for that and has a huge future

Hope we don't stick with Willian purely because of the price we paid for him, and the fiasco with Spurs.  Not that it is, but if it came down to it I'd much rather keep Andre than WIllian

I don't think he'll go anywhere, he's far too versatile, and was only a post width away from scoring a brilliant free kick the other night.

Shurrle-y his all round attributes have been noticed by the coaching staff as well as us !

If any of the attackers were to leave salah and Moses are the weakest two.

I think schurrle will be a starter this season. He makes the sort of runs in behind that fabregas can pick out.

There was a moment in the game on Tuesday when Costa dropped deep, Willian had the ball on the right and neither Hazard nor Oscar made their way into the box to receive a cross. That would not happen if Schurrle was on the pitch. He is probably technically the weakest of the main 4 AMs but he offers something unique to our squad.

While the media in Spain continue to troll us with rumors of Atlético attempting to get André Schürrle from us, the 23-year-old Champion of the World sat down with the Evening Standard's Richard Benson for an interview in support of the Chelsea Foundation.  It's another interview that confirms just how happy Schürrle is with Chelsea, Mourinho, and life in London.  Adorable. (I'm assuming Chelsea and Mourinho are just as happy with André.  I know I am.)

Obviously I'm recommending that you click on over and read the whole thing, but here's my favorite part:

In training Schürrle has been running for fitness (in which, he admits, he struggles to find pleasure) and working with the ball (which he loves). The most inspiring element, however, is clearly his time with Mourinho; the boss is said to be personally fond of Schürrle and the protégé returns the feeling with something resembling bright-eyed hero worship. ‘It's his thinking,' he explains. ‘There is only one way for him and that is to win. And with his psychology, the way he talks... he gives that thinking to you. The hardest thing is when you feel tired in training and he'll push you, but it makes you better as a player. It's why I wanted to play for him.'

Mourinho in charge of the German national team would be an unstoppable efficient combination.

Great article. Andre Schurrle is easily my favourite Chelsea player in the current squad. If i ever meet him i will full on snog his face off #WhatAGuy

Surely all this talk of transferring Schurrle is nonsense, along with Hazard they have to be the two most promising & indispensable youngsters we have.

Apparently since March he's averaged 1.06 goals or assists every 90 minutes, that's crazy! :) Fast becoming one of my favourites.

And what a run and finish today to boot.

It was a lovely ball from Cesc, but for two players to be on that same wavelength after a couple of weeks is just stunning.

Good match for him.

A little disappointed when he had a few chances to release Costa but either didnt or went for it himself.

Great run and finish for his goal.

I would agree Jackson. I still think his decision making and final ball can improve.

Fantastic goal tonight.

I love Schurrle, he offers something different. Fabregas will combine well with him

Superb move today for the second goal, and the above posters got it spot on. I think Schurrle may well turn out to be one of our best signings in recent years.

Probably surprised by having actual movement from a striker, he's normally the one finishing off moves.

  • 1 month later...

No matter how good he is going forwards he has to be able to defend when the opposition have possession. The days of Chris Waddle type wingers are long gone, modern day wide players have to be able to cover and tackle nearly as well as they can attack. Mourinho will be spitting feathers at his defensive display and unless he learns how to fulfil his defensive work he will never be an automatic first choice starter in the big games.
