It is quite possible that the Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid semifinal begins with Schwarzer in goal for us and Courtois in goal for Madrid. The irony is certainly not lost on me :-(

Is Cech injured??

I fear for us then..

He supposedly had a "minor illness" (probably just had a "24-hour" bug that hit him the night before the match, and didn't want to go around getting the rest of the team sick).

What about next weekend when we turn up at Binfield with Torres against Sturridge, whilst Lukaku is the other side of Stanley Park.

the fact is, schwarzer has been happy to sit on our bench all season and we haven't heard a peep about him moaning and grumbling. had courtois been on our bench this season, he would not have been a happy bunny. can't have your cake and eat it, courtois will come in when the time is right

If Cech was injured i would have no problem with Schwarzer. We were all very happy for him to be our back up keeper at the start of the season so i don't really know why people have turned on him now.

And the fact that when he has come in and played this season he has played well and done nothing wrong.

Had a bit of a mare Saturday fella. Not slating the guy cos I think he relatively steady. But if big Pete is in goal Saturday we don't concede. Simple as that

Hardly a mare.

Debatable. All I'm saying is you can see the difference a) in his performance compared to Cech and b) the back fours performance in comparison. 1st goal he should hold and to be honest the penalty was lame , not that you expect a keeper to save any penalty so no blame there.

Also , as a keeper if you make a mistake that costs a goal , and they generally do, you have in my book had a mare

I agree, very soft hands to parry the ball, maybe he saw it late but should have done better. I still believe the scorer was offside, but that's another story. I wouldn't want him playing tomorrow, it's going to get very ugly.

So because Schwarzer (playing his first competitive match in months) conceded a goal having parried the initial effort and a Sunderland player reacted faster than all of our defense he had a "mare".

It wasn't a great goal to concede but then neither was Cech getting beat at his near post against PSG, these things happen.

The overreaction towards our players by posters on this forum following bad results is laughable at times.

If you want to get into it deeper take a look at his kicking throughout the game as another measure. I'm not affiliating myself with the overreaction brigade but yes, I have seen him play many times, and many times perform better than this. So I do indeed feel he had a mare. Also it has nothing to do with reaction. If he holds the ball, like he should , it matters not.

Cech is probably the best kicker in the game so he would make any number 2 look sh*t at it.

I am not overreacting at all. He was poor on all fronts. Face it, he didn't have much to do in that game as the majority of thee shots came from us. But when he did have something to do, he just seemed real panicky and didn't look comfortable at all. He choked when the first goal was conceded, he kept slicing the ball and generally wasn't first team material.

His kicking for me was more to do with pitch than anything else. I noticed how much the players were slipping thoughout the match in the goal areas and everytime Schwarzer cleared the ball he was slipping, it was ridiculous. The pitch at the Bridge was clearly too watered in my opinion, it cost us a goal in the end with Azpilicueta slipping.

i hope Schwarzer never plays for us again, that woeful attempt at catching the shot for Sunderland's first goal may have costed us the title.

If he couldn't catch it he shouldn't have tried to, and instead should have palmed it away from the goal, absurd.

This just makes me laugh.

Just a quick note on that first goal, it looked like a total screw up from most angles, but there was one angle shown on the replay where you could see the ball take a slight deflection which I think is what sent Mark out of position. It wasn't much which is why it looked so bad, but I think it was enough.
