my final media bias rant of the season...err...I promise

Featured Replies

so while I've been put in charge of my new daughter ( while the mrs takes a break), I get to see sky's season review show with chat in a panel comprising of Redknapp, Carragher, Neville and Souness...now as we hadn;t won anything, I knew we wouldn't be centre stage, but given it was Jose's first season back, the fact we came pretty close and had quality performances as a team and individuals, expected a reasonable mention...well from what i could tell (I missed first few mins but they were talking about city when I tuned in anyway), we got about a 90 second slot...less than spurs, everton, arsenal, Man utd.....think they talked palace and fulham longer than us..

even when it came to singling out individuals, Hazard was ignored...Suarez, Toure (both fair enough) and their favourite pet Gerrard (why?) were highlighted...

don't think I was being too sensitive, just found the lack of attention firstly surprising, then as show went on, very insulting...just makes me hope for title win that little bit more, so these gits are forced to wax lyrical through gritted teeth

Its insulting that more was not made of the fact that we beat all the top teams in our path.

The double over city and liverpool, hammering arsenal 6 nil, beating utd.... all rather hush hush.

Concentrate on your wee babby, Brit!  You'll get far more satisfaction from her!

Yeah I missed the first 15 and thought I must if missed the part the talked about us? Sounds like I didn't. I was the same as you, when I saw they said 'coming up players of the season' I thought oh they'll mention hazard because he's young player of the season at least. Pathetic.

Jose being back is one of the biggest stories of the season and they ignored it? From what I saw they basically spoke about everyone except us.

Congrats on the young'un....Anyway part of me enjoys being ignored by the media, they rarely have anything positive to say about us anyway, preferring to concentrate on our flaws....

They can all kiss my ar*e

Is it just me or is there much more ranting than usual about the biased press and pundits this season?

Let it go, Brit, and don't subject your little girl to the four horsemen of the Apocalypse.

That would be Patrick Collins, Adrian Durham, Steven Howard and Mick Dennis, I presume?

I wonder if Adrian Durham knows everyone see's him as a joke these days.

I know I have a problem! Thing is even when the little one is sleeping, I still have to keep a watching brief...so need something in background to keep me entertained...probably wouldn't have watched the show otherwise...as for more media rants from posters this season, it's probably cos there has been more crap written, due to Jose being back...even more of a target

Absolute prick honestly, sort of makes out going to Chelsea halted his career too as a player, Ashley Colehas had his best years at Chelsea, his single best season as a player 2009/10 was under us.

I wonder if Adrian Durham knows everyone see's him as a joke these days.

It is what he gets paid for. (he has no other knowledge, skill, insight or intelligence he can use to make a living)

It's not just you. I think people are actively searching for instances of "media bias" to get worked up about.

I've said this before. a lot of what is percieved as anti-Chelsea bias in the media is actually pro-Liverpool and pro-Man U bias.

The simple fact is that there are a hell of a lot more Man U and Liverpool fans than there are Chelsea, and so the media are simply playing to the lowest common denominator. It's easy to appeeal to Mancs and Scousers by having a go at Chelsea. Have a go at one or the other and they risk upsetting a substantially larger percentage of their readership.

I'm sure there are members of this forum who are convinced that  many of us here are obsessed with Liverpool. Not so. This season more than ever, with prospects of winning their first ever Premiership title, their first league title getting on for a quarter of a century ago, and with Man U simultaneously finishing trophyless and in their lowest league position for some time, the pro-Liverpool media frenzy for has been more in evidence than ever.

So far from having to search for evidence of media bias, this season more than ever before the Liverpool love-in has been pretty much unavoidable, with even more ex-Liverpool players drafted in as pundits in anticipation of the Liverpool Premiership title that thankjfully never was, journalists leaping on the "it's Liverpool's year at long last" bandwagon.

Out of curiosity I've just turned the radio on. First thing I hear is Michael Owen prattling on and being told: "It does look very much like an opportunity lost for Liverpool", followed by Michael Owen wittering on: "Brendon Rodgers blah... wonderful job blah... fantastic season blah... exceeded expectations blah... future is bright... blah"

As I was saying, this season there's been no getting away from it. And now I'm going to get up again to turn the radio off.

It's not just you. I think people are actively searching for instances of "media bias" to get worked up about.

Yes maybe so but lets not bury our heads in the sand with this, this club is being shown utter contempt by the sporting media and those who still can`t see it...F**king wake up!!!

I think there is more footballing knowledge and insight in Oscar's underwear adverts than there has been in Adrian Durham's entire career...

Don't know about you but I'm all for his advert, very happy with it in fact.

Ah yes, I thought we were due. Its been all over a week since the last 'anti Chelsea in the media' thread! (only ribbing you Brit!)

I have a very simple 2 step solution to those of you who seem to get so worked up over this:

1 - Dont read, watch or listen to those experts who wind you up so much

2 - repeat step 1 for eternity.

Yes maybe so but lets not bury our heads in the sand with this, this club is being shown utter contempt by the sporting media and those who still can`t see it...F**king wake up!!!

Let's face it, our season has been nowhere near as newsworthy as City's (won the league), Liverpool's (came from nowhere and almost won it before blowing it), Man Utd's (dramatic fall from grace), or Spurs (sacked AVB, appointed Tim "football man" Sherwood, then sacked him too). The OP mentioned Palace and Fulham but both teams have had noteworthy seasons one way or another. We just did pretty much as everybody expected, possibly even a bit less as we didn't even win a trophy this year or sack any managers, two things we usually excel at.

I agree with Tommy's point that much of the bias that exists will be in the form of favourtism towards Liverpool/Man Utd, but I also don't think about the media as a single collective with a universally agreed opinion or agenda. All the individual journalists and pundits will have their own allegiances, many of them will favour Liverpool or Man Utd because they have been the dominant clubs since the 80s and are probably the two most well supported clubs in this Country. Some of them will hate Chelsea for various reasons (the main one being jealousy), and their opinions will reflect that. We have a few people firmly on our side (Pat Nevin for example, whose articles are often shared on this forum) so why not read those instead?

I'm not even going to look at the article from the mail that was posted in here; everybody know what a complete f**king sh*t-rag it is so it baffles me that people still read or give a toss what they say. Honestly, anybody daft enough to visit their website (I'm assuming nobody buys it) deserves to get upset.

Whoah there, back up... Oscar does underwear ads?

I tried to read a bit of this article to a friend, but I was laughing too much, in a weird way I thank Adrian Durham for making me chuckle. I've always thought he was a prat, on TalkSh** they have a heads gone segment, which is funny because his head has always been gone. To be honest, I think he gets paid to troll, it's all about shock value. Can you imagine Roman telling Jose Mourinho that he has to fire him, because Azpilicueta kept Cole out of the team, hilarious

Just for you, Val.  Think Carlo would look better in them, though!
