Ozil donated his World Cup bonuses to pay for the operations of 23 children in Brazil, one for each of the German World Cup squad.

Fair play to the lad.

were the arsenal squad on holiday over there?

If we heard stories like this more often, people wouldn't have such a negative view on footballers.

I think Sky have already misquoted Van Gaal, they're saying that Shaw and Herrera were already on his shortlist. I don't think he meant that he said they were already on the shortlist and he approved them. I think he meant they were already on United's shortlist.

I honestly don't think any of us here have a negative view on footballers. However, if I were to pull in around 150 thou a week, I would donate some money too.

Casual football fans and people outside of football have a terrible view on footballers though. If the media printed more stories like this then they wouldn't be seen in such a negative way.

Scott,

I don't need the UK media to form my opinion on footballers. Ozil was generous, but the money he has decided to donate is a small amount out of his huge wages.

Same with me, but sadly people take what papers say seriously, its something i have never understood really.

Scott,

Over the years, I have learned to trust my own intuition. The UK based media is notorious for drivels & I have never thought of it much. We are seeing stupidity almost daily just to sell their respective papers.

Listening to Van Gaals first press conference on TalkSport.

He is being very guarded and wont make any promises.

I can't wait for the press conference after his first defeat, when he starts calling out hacks who have criticised him.

What kind of operations, exactly? And why do they need one for each member of the German World Cup squad? There's something fishy about this.

New Liverpool book out about, erm, finishing second.

The reviews on Amazon are amusing:

I tried to buy this in Waterstones but it was raining outside and I slipped. Whilst I was recovering Demba Ba nipped in and got the last copy.

This book is not just some cynical cash-in to make money out of Irish people. Paul Tomkins has truly encapsulated the modern-day Liverpool Football Club experience in literary form: the misty-eyed sentimentality, the endless self-mythologizing and, above all, the abject, humiliating failure. YNWA.

I remember the Chelsea game like it was yesterday. Me, me auld fella, titch and spanners all donned our full warrior kits, tied our 5 times flags around our necks like makeshift capes and marched for the Shankly gates. We bought our CHAMPIONS 13/14 t-shirts outside, made our way onto the kop and laughed as the Chelsea team was read out. During our mirth, I turned to my brethren and told them there was no way Chelsea were going to score today, the only way they will is if Gerrard falls flat on his face and gives them the ball, right in front of all of us. And he would not let it slip. We all shed tears of laughter.

Relive the season where we had the league in our hands but amazingly let it slip by.

Revel in the glory of being so close to the promised land and rejoice in the memories of Stevie G single-handedly dragging us from first to second place in such dramatic fashion.

He initially paid for 11 but after winning the World Cup and inheriting a bigger win bonus he upped it to twenty three.

He did it to thank Brazil for their hospitality during the finals and 23 represented the squad size so he thought it fitting to make it that number.

Not sure if you was joking about the fishy remark but I don't think this is anything more than a remarkably generous gesture from Ozil.

Arsenal have completed the £12m signing of Debuchy from Newcastle to fill the void left Sagna joining City. Decent signing that for them although I'm bit sure if he's an upgrade on Sagna.

And Michu has somewhat surprisingly joined Napoli on a season loan although it wouldn't surprise me if his loan fee is more than the £2.5m Swansea paid for him two years ago.... Crazy to think Arsenal were linked to a £25m move for him last summer.

Just goes to show you can't judge a player based on one season.

Sick of Van Gal already and his stupid haircut, sausage head tosser.

Haha! That's what I thought. He has one of those expression-less faces that you want to punch. He also looks like he has had some kind of face lift.

Debuchy's a good signing but I don't think an improvement over Sagna will provably do about the same job

Benteke's another one like Michu, I wonder if he can have a good season this upcoming one to make it so he's not a one hit wonder
