Gareth Bale to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He cant be arsed to defend. No way mourinho goes for him.

Don't know if it's that he can't be arsed or that he's not asked to. Remember he did start off as a full-back so he's probably got some defensive instincts.

He's one of the few players in the world I think could really take us to the next level. He upgrades a position we're currently struggling with, he knows the league and he takes pressure off of those around him. Cost is the main factor and United would almost certainly be in for him but he's got to be someone we take a look at.

Torres comes off the FFP accounts this season and he was costing us £18 million per year. With the added sponsorship money (reportedly £20 million extra per year) there's certainly money available.

Do you not think with his relationship with Spurs and guys like Giggs in his ear that he'd choose them over us given the choice?

I can't see any team other than United getting him if he leaves.

I have no idea how much influence Giggs has on him, but for the sake of his partner I'd hope it's not much.

United can outspend us and may be able to offer Champions League football. He'd be the hero galloping in to town to restore them to their 'rightful place' but we're the better team for him.

If he did do that then I'd take a good look at Di Maria. Yes he's been iffy but he's in a team that's built around Fellaini for the most part. I think Jose could get the best out of him.

He has a good relationship with Giggs, has spoke about him a few times iirc.

I think it would be an easy decision for him, he'd earn more money, be the main man and won't piss off spuds fans for moving to Chelsea. It for me all points to United.

Di Maria is an interesting one, he'd cost probably what United bought him for but othert than PSG I can't see anyone else who'd appeal to him out with us. I'm not sure if he'd come though, doesn't strike me as someone who is enjoying life in England and has had a few issues since moving here.

Ideally we'd get Bale if he was to move.

Not necessarily. There is always the London factor to take into consideration too.

Yeah like Cesc.

I just think United look a more sensible move for him all round.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Thought this was pure fantasy when this thread was made but the way he's being treated by his own fans, why would anyone put up with that when they could be idolized at any other club in the world?

If we were to sign either one of di Maria or Bale I would be ecstatic - despite their current troubles they are both magnificent footballers, among the best 10 in the world.

I wouldn't want him at all. He has looked so underwhelming at Madrid and he refuses to track back when asked. He just isn't good enough for a team who track back, that's why he was so good at spurs because he had that freedom.

He did start off as a defender so i'm sure he knows how to defend, and looking at him I don't doubt he has the legs to do it either.

Just needs the right manager. I doubt Hazard tracked back much at Lille.

Either way I don't think it would be an issue if Hazard and Bale tracked back a bit less, we'd be far more deadly on the counter attack and so long as Oscar/Willian/Fabregas/whoever is playing the #10 role plays more defensively to compensate and Ivanovic starts defending again I doubt we'd be in too much trouble.

Then give him that freedom here.

I think he'd just keep defenders honest because he's such a threat, plus teams couldn't double or triple-team Hazard because there's as dangerous a threat on the other side of the pitch. Willian simply doesn't offer that, and Cuadrado hasn't been given a chance to.

There are few world-class players available. He ticks all the boxes if he is and the price is right.

Haha to be fair his career as a left back was terrible, he was a national joke for a while. Remember this?

I think Redknapp eventually brought him off the bench for the last 10 minutes when Tottenham were 3-0 up against someone like Blackpool to break the 'curse'. Then they pushed him forward and the rest, I suppose, is history...

He had a very good first season there, he has been very good in his 2nd season too but they have such unrealistic expectations at that club that it makes it nearly impossible to please them. His confidence being low now is more to do with the way he is getting treated than what he is doing on the field.

16 goals in 39 games is still brilliant, this is hardly underwhelming. Those Madrid fans expect him to be scoring the amount of goals Ronaldo scores though which is just ridiculous.

All of this tracking back stuff is a bullsh*t excuse to get on his back. Ronaldo isn't that great at tracking back himself but because it's Ronaldo he get's away with it. If Real Madrid need their wingers to do the defending for them then their defense is the thing that should be looked at.

Gareth Bale is being made the scapegoat for bad performancce from the team.

Think he is priced out of our league. If rumours are to believed United will get him comfortably. BUT that being said  i don't know where they will play him and who he will replace him in the starting line up. For Chelsea, i am sure we will have to sell to buy him, even with the new money coming in. Could be worth it, he did tear up the league with spurs a few seasons back but for the price i don't think we should get him.

He'd replace Willian with ease, he a few levels above him.

We would no doubt sell next season anyway with a few loan players like Moses and Marin making moves I'd have thought plus Cech for a decent fee.

We will have a record amount of revenue to play with too remember.

Exactly, if they gave a sh*t about their wingers pressing or tracking back they would have made an enquiry about the availability of Willian, wouldn't they? ;)

I had it in my head that we were gonna get Bale when we were struggling on the right and the Reus thing petered out.

Then we got Cuadrado and I totally wrote it off. Now with the way he's being treated by the fans I'm certain that he'll leave. Only question is to where. Then all the stories start linking us again and the belief goes up. The papers start using stronger terminology and my belief goes up further.

Truth of the matter is the papers have given no evidence. We've just splashed a fair few million on what I consider to be a promising right winger. The transfer is highly unlikely but not impossible. It'll be an interesting transfer window.

I believe Mourinho mentioned that we, among other clubs were offered Di Maria and Falcao in the summer and passed on both.

Jose knows Di Maria from his time in Madrid, so I guess he's not interested.

Bale is a tempting option. Would have had to kill Levi to get him from Spurs, but now it seems like a possibility. Still young, top quality winger, can play either on the right or in the center, homegrown and with Hazard on the right that would be a devastating attack. His price tag would be very big though, and I wonder, even if we could afford him, would we still have money left to improve other positions in the team. Not to mention other clubs going after him.

But getting Bale would be fantastic, no question.

The fact is, bale won't go for anything less than 50 million and we shouldn't be looking to pay that out on a right sided player when we've spent nearly 60 million on two players (one of whom has barely featured and the other is just a work horse) for that position.

I would much rather we spend half that and go for someone like dybala, promote bamford (seeing as he's played in that wide right position for boro for many games and has done well) or give cuadrado a chance. All this talk of pogba and bale won't happen because it will cost us a fortune, so it's a case of which one is more of a priority for us? This is hypothetical of course, but there's been a lot of talk of pogba for the rumours to not be taken seriously, and central midfield needs prioritising more than anywhere right now.

I was at Camp Nou on Sunday and remember him doing plenty of defensive work. This "cant be arsed to defend" is really exagurated imo. I remember one time in particular were he sprinted back and put in a cracking challenge to get the ball back. I think its more to due with the fact that he isnt asked to.

Spending only half of what Bale would cost is exactly what has put us in this position too begin with. I would love to have Bale at Chelsea.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that. Di Maria is an excellent footballer and undoubtedly a more effective attacker than Willian or Oscar but is about a tenth as solid; I suppose José has a very clear idea of the team he wants to build in the Premier League and doesn't want any passengers off the ball. I had always considered di Maria to be a fairly hard-working player in La Liga, but I suppose the directness and physicality of the Premier League are a different story entirely. Rejecting Falcao was an easier decision I would imagine.

I know di Maria has had a few problems at Man Utd recently, but I can't tell whether that's down to his attitude or whether there's something rotten going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford. Interesting that both of these players ended up at Man Utd considering their previous clubs were so keen to dispose of them that they actually offered them around, especially considering Man Utd's [relative] transfer savvy under Ferguson.

surely we have money to spend with the  new sponsorship deal?
