Gareth Bale to Chelsea

Featured Replies

surely we have money to spend with the new sponsorship deal?

We do but we have 2 or 3 positions we need to strengthen so using upward of £50 million on a single player is a problem and one I doubt we will be doing.

I have no idea how much influence Giggs has on him, but for the sake of his partner I'd hope it's not much.

United can outspend us and may be able to offer Champions League football. He'd be the hero galloping in to town to restore them to their 'rightful place' but we're the better team for him.

If he did do that then I'd take a good look at Di Maria. Yes he's been iffy but he's in a team that's built around Fellaini for the most part. I think Jose could get the best out of him.

Di Maria and Bale. Two excellent players, I wouldn't mind either. Surely we can get either for less than 35mil?

Di Maria possibly based on the Veron discount scale.

Bale no chance in my opinion. £60 million minimum I reckon.

Don't know if it's that he can't be arsed or that he's not asked to. Remember he did start off as a full-back so he's probably got some defensive instincts.

He's one of the few players in the world I think could really take us to the next level. He upgrades a position we're currently struggling with, he knows the league and he takes pressure off of those around him. Cost is the main factor and United would almost certainly be in for him but he's got to be someone we take a look at.

Torres comes off the FFP accounts this season and he was costing us £18 million per year. With the added sponsorship money (reportedly £20 million extra per year) there's certainly money available.

i doubt hes not being asked to. he does something that resembles tracking back so he obviously doesnt have a free role

i agree he would improve us even though he doesnt defend, but as i said mourinho is the one who calls the shots and hes not a mourinho player

The fact is, bale won't go for anything less than 50 million and we shouldn't be looking to pay that out on a right sided player when we've spent nearly 60 million on two players (one of whom has barely featured and the other is just a work horse) for that position.

I would much rather we spend half that and go for someone like dybala, promote bamford (seeing as he's played in that wide right position for boro for many games and has done well) or give cuadrado a chance. All this talk of pogba and bale won't happen because it will cost us a fortune, so it's a case of which one is more of a priority for us? This is hypothetical of course, but there's been a lot of talk of pogba for the rumours to not be taken seriously, and central midfield needs prioritising more than anywhere right now.

I like the left wing version of Bale better actually. As an inside forward, he is still class but other than the shooting, he doesn't really have any standout attributes when playing there. He can still skip past a fullback from time to time but I find his crossing to be average on his right foot. If we do sign him, then I would go with (Bale - Hazard - Cuadrado), at least in home games and swap them around during the match as required. If it was a choice between Bale and Pogba however, I would probably go with Pogba.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that.

Here it is. He mentions their huge wages, but also says in the end he didn't want them, anyway.

'Jorge [Mendes] told me Di Maria and Falcao are his players and he has to find solutions for them,' he said.

'But if Chelsea doesn't have the financial capacity to pay eight, nine, 10 million euros a year, because of Fair Play, of course Mendes has to think about his players.'

Mourinho spent around £88m on Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Loic Remy last summer, but financed the deals by selling David Luiz to PSG for £50m, Romelu Lukaku to Everton for £28m and Demba Ba to Besiktas for £4.7m.

He added: 'We couldn't bring Falcao or Di Maria because I didn't want to, either.'

Exactly, if they gave a sh*t about their wingers pressing or tracking back they would have made an enquiry about the availability of Willian, wouldn't they? ;)

We can only live in hope. ;)

Haha well judging by the reactions to the post-Chelsea fates of most other players who have left the club, his flaws would suddenly be forgotten!

Anyway, didn't bale play more central under avb the season he left?

Yeah, AVB orchestrated a brilliant tactical plan called, "pass the ball to Bale". They nearly grabbed 4th place, if I remember correctly.

If Bale is available, we'd be stupid not to at least try and get him, otherwise he'll just strengthen one of our rivals in Manchester./

Cannot see us stumping up that kind of money on one player. Would make far too big a hit on our FFP.

Unless we can ship out 80mill worth of talent without leaving us with a squad of 15 players lol

I would much rather spend £60 million on Bale than spend nearly £60 million combined on 2 gambles like Willian and Cuadrado.

I'd be happy to sign Bale in the summer even if Real Madrid require that we agree to sell Hazard to them in say 2/3 years...

But I fear we'll pass up the opportunity to sign Bale because of Cuadrado's signing (not that Cuadrado would be personally responsible of course).

Edited by the special one

Unless we sell Cuadrado, or Willian, then I don't see it happening and I wouldn't part with Hazard in any case.

Well Bale is leagues ahead of both those players so I don't think Bale signing would depend on those two they'd just have to be part of rotation.

Rumour has it that we're going to pay Bale's release clause at a cost of £75m.

It's probably nonsense but it's an interesting one to consider. He'd cost a hell of a lot of money and as he's on about £300k a week at Madrid we'd have to smash our wage structure to get him.

I reckon we have a few positions to improve in the summer:

1) A back up keeper (assuming that Cech leaves).

2) A central defender (Cahill is inconsistent, Zouma is more than capable of filling the void but Terry isn't getting any younger either).

3) A back up for Fabregas (is RLC the answer?).

4) A right winger (which is staggering considering that we've spent North of £70m already on right wingers in two seasons).

5) A back up for the left wing (now that Schurrle has left).

Bale would definitely cover off option 4 but I reckon he'll take all of our budget in the summer! Would we be confident that we can sort out the other areas cheaply, by using our academy products or free / cheap transfers? That is my concern.

Apparently due to selling Torres and the new TV deal and the new shirt sponsorship we have an additional £40m to spend to be able to still comply with FFP.

Not accounting for any player sales we could probably sign Bale and still have money in the budget.

I can't see it.

I think I'd rather have a few excellent signings than just one huge one.

We will need a centre back, back up keeper, back up striker and a central midfielder on top of another wide player.

That's going to cost a huge sum of money.

Of course we now have additional income but we still need to be smart, it's probably doable to get Bale and a few others but I can't see us spending £150 odd million the season after we spent over £100 million on several players.

I'd agree to an extent but I don't think we'd have a lot left in the bank. Definitely not enough to fulfil all the weak links we've got in the squad.
