Chelsea vs PSG (Champions League Second Leg) 11/03/2015

ref looking shaken by the occasion - sending off could be viewed as harsh but it was a reckless challenge; the penalty decision on the other hand - difficult to understand how it could not be given but of course you often see such decisions being made by refs after they've sent off someone from the opposing side.

I don't understand how Veratti can get away with everything. He's been doing this his entire career.

One of the dirtiest players in the game right now. He will get booked eventually but it is more often than not way too late.

Veratti must have something on basically every referee. I can't believe how many fouls he can get away with before he gets booked. He should be off by now.
Not a red card for Zlatan, we should have had a penalty and Luiz should be off too.

Summary:

- Oscar poor, Hazard really good

- Zlatan should not have seen red

- Costa should have been given a penalty for the trip by Cavani

- HOW IS VERRATTI NOT ON A YELLOW?!?!?!?!

Does Verratti always play like this? And does he get away with it?

Always like it.

He's a dirty wee sod and I wouldn't want him near my club

poor first half from us, yet again we don't test the opposition goalkeeper. No sympathy for psg due to the c**t-thuggery from their players and the lack of action taken (especially veratti) against them, but that was an incredibly soft red and the ref must know it as he's given everything their way since. Given the circumstances the pressure is definitely on us now, cant have any excuses.

Well that was certainly not a boring first half. Game is a real powder keg now.

Ref has been very poor so far. I do not know how Veratti is able to get away with foul after foul without receiving a booking but he sends Zlatan off for that tackle. For me is a yellow card for Zlatan and no more, it was not a dangerous tackle he pulled out a bit before contact was made.

Looked a certain pen to me as well at the end of the half for the trip on Costa.

Think the ref will see the red card incident on TV at half time and realize he made a mistake there and may look to even it up. Jose should replace Oscar with Willian in my opinion to minimize that risk, you know the PSG players will try chirping on to get the sides evened to 10 aside.

Aside from that side of the game have to say our link up in the final third was rather disappointing. Too many over hit or under hit passes, we have not made their keeper make a single decent save, neither has Tibo mind you.

All in all if we are smart about this and do not get drawn in to reacting we can see this one out. Jose might want to consider taking Costa out of the firing line and using either the pace of Remy or the battering ram to counter them as they come further and further out seeking the goal.

My opinions on the key moments of the half:

Ibra sending off: 50/50, both feet were off the ground and clearly had no control over the challenge, but didn't go in with studs. Could have gone either way in my opinion, but he didn't have any arguments with it and considering he's a very vocal player I think he felt it deserved a red.

Penalty shout: Clear as day, 100% penalty 100% of the time, Cavani kicks him from behind, should have been a peno and a booking.

Luiz elbow: Surely a red, worth of comparison to JT being sent off for kneeing Sanchez in the 2012 semi, very lucky the ref didn't see it.

Verratti: Should be off, seemed to kung fu kick Costa above the waist just after Ibra got sent off and has committed at least 5 fouls himself personally in the first half, clearly lost his head and the only thing keeping him on the pitch is the fact the ref won't want to send off another PSG player unless he has too.

I'm concerned about Oscar's yellow, I think the ref is itching to even things up and Willian should come on sooner rather than later.

Overall we've played decently so far, Hazard is clearly in the mood, he's been let down by poor final touches by Ramires and Oscar on a few occasions, but it feels like the goal is coming soon.

The worry is the ref will realise he bodged the red card and will start giving them more leeway to even things up, that Costa penalty being a good example.
